I am sad to say, this great venue is closing. Well, not completely, but it will no longer be Catch a Rising Star. This is the second time I have been here and the second time I have seen the wonderful Ms Jill Bryan. The venue is intimate with little round tables and chairs. The drink service was a little slow, but our waitress was attentive and the drinks were good. I really like how they make every effort not to interfere with the performers once the show has started. We ordered a round right before the headliner came on and that was it. There are three acts in all — a local, a warm-up comedienne and our headliner. A great full show for a reasonable price. Oh, and locals get a 10% discount. Sweet deal. Look forward to seeing what the new club will have.

Catch a Rising Star is such a great addition to Reno. You can find truly hilarious comedians here and not pay premium pricing. They always offer great deals for locals, and even when paying full price for a ticket, which is $ 17.95, that is nothing compared to the laughs you are about to experience. The Ambiance is comfortable and set up theater style. There is a huge grand piano and other instruments the opening act plays getting the crowd pumped for the headliner. There are cocktail waitresses that take your drink orders and promptly get your drinks. They are very friendly and efficient. The headliners have always been hysterically funny. The producers of Catch a Rising Star do a fantastic job booking quality comedians. I have yet to see a bum show. Whether you are traveling to Reno, or a local looking for something fun and different to do, hit up the box office and get your tickets, or purchase them online. You definitely won’t be disappointed!

My husband and I are regulars at Catch a Rising Star. We love the Living Social vouchers for a fun night out. Went again last night and the headliner was, as always very funny. I hate to be too picky but having the guy with the huge mustache EVERY week gets old. Same jokes that aren’t funny. We would like to come late and skip his set but then we’d have horrible seats. Drinks take forever to get and are pricey, so drink up before the show! For the price we get on Living Social it is totally worth it! Will keep coming back!

Horrible comedians. This is the second time we got disappointed. The comedian did not have a material at all. He is literally trying to come up with something funny and it was horrible.

Wow! Just came from the show with Francis Dilorinzo. She was fabulous. We’ve gone to Catch/Star for decades, catching those rising stars like Jeff Foxworthy, before they’ve become household names. While Francis Dilorinzo is clearly no newcomer to standup performing, we’d bet she’s on her way up to comedy fame. It was a clean, hilarious routine, engaging and frequently including the audience. My husband and I laughed so much it hurt, and I wasn’t cringing, dodging constant, gratuitous obscenity. it was delightful to to have a woman’s perspective. Thanks Francis – we had a lot of fun.

We caught a Sunday night show this past weekend. To be on the safe side, we bought our tickets about an hour early, but there was plenty of open spots, so it wasn’t really necessary. But that may be different on a Friday or Saturday night. All shows start at 7:30, so there is time to grab some dinner beforehand. The ticket counter is directly across from the club, which is to the left and back once you go down the escalator. The lady at the ticket counter wasn’t paying a lot of attention, so we stood around for a few minutes before she finally came out to help us. We were asked if we had Nevada IDs, which we do, and I also said I had a card that gave us two for one entry(not knowing that the Nevada IDs already did that). She was a little short with me when she explained that, but I guess now I know that I don’t need the card. Tickets are $ 15.95, which I think is a great deal! Outside drinks aren’t allowed in the club, but you can order drinks inside from the waitress. We opted for a bucket of beers(4) which saves a little bit of money. There are two short opening acts plus the entertainer in the beginning who plays music and just keeps the crowd entertained. Last is the final act who has much more stage time than the rest. Everyone really got the crowd involved so just be aware that you’ll get picked on no matter where you are sitting. We had a great time and everyone was really funny. We’ll definitely be back in the future when we’re looking for something besides the usual to do.

Laughter is said to be the best medicine. And it’s sure cheaper and more effective than the Affordable Health Care Act So grab your honey or some friends and head to the Silver Legacy for an evening of healing laughter. Tuesday to Friday $ 16, Saturday $ 18. Show times are Tuesday — Thursday 730p and Friday and Saturday 730&930p While everyone trickles in and get their seats and drinks, Gary Raffanelli entertained with songs, music and jokes. We enjoyed OC from Arkansas as our MC. The next comedian was Dave Mencarelli who joked about marriage and young girlfriends. The nights’ headliner– Jill Bryan, entertained us with family stories that almost everyone could relate to The only down side to laughing that hard for a couple of hours are sore facial muscles. That reminds me of an old joke– Does your face hurt? Because it’s killing me!

First time back to Reno in over ten years, due to military obligations. We are staying at the circus circus, and that is a dump. Anyways, we walked past this place, and the gentleman let us check it out last night for about 10 minutes to see if we liked it. Obviously, it was awesome. So we bought tickets, which were cheap, for tonight’s event with James Goff. Heard nothing but positive things about this comedian. Great venue, and good price. Why not?

Reno, NV Review #2 As our first Reno trip together, the company I’m working for was offering a deal for 2 night stay in Silverado which included 2 free tickets to the comedy club«Catch a Rising Star» They offered 2 showings(7:30&9:30) and we took the 9:30pm. Doors open at 9:15. Once seated we were asked if we wanted drinks. I don’t drink and just asked for water. My honey couldn’t decide and asked for a water too. When it arrived it cost us $ 5. WTF! Seriously, I have to pay $ 5 for(2) 12 oz. water. Someone next to us ordered an alcohol drink and it was $ 8. That’s crazy. Anyways, enough venting the show started off with a guy playing a piano and singing. He was pretty good. Singing old old school songs(like Neil Diamond). Then a guy with a funny mustache came out to open the show. He was funny. Then another younger guy(Sean Pearson) came out and he was horrible. I wanted to throw a tomato at him if I had one. He used the«F» word in every sentence and kept talking about his cock. He must be lacking down there since he needed some boost of confidence from the audience. He didn’t last very long. He’s the kind of guy you would start booing at if he stayed up there any longer. Don’t quit your day job, buddy! As for the main event it was Tommy Savitt. He was hilarious. We couldn’t stop laughing. He can be the next rising star for sure. QT: if you’re shy DON’T sit in the first row. They will ask you to participate, especially on the right next to the piano. The tickets are $ 15.95 each(sun-fri) & $ 17.95(sat). I think that’s way too much for this show. Not worth it if your paying this price but def worth it if it comes with your room.

Funny comedians, properly poured drinks, reasonably priced tickets. The manager, Sean, is really nice and made an effort to seat people well. When a table started talking talking loudly during a set, he asked them to pipe down. Waitresses were attentive too. What more could you want in a comedy club? Nice break from the casino atmosphere.

This place really got me laughing out loud! I laughed so hard I could barely catch a breathe. I have never laughed so hard in my life! It was a very pleasant experience. We were seated in the middle second row and have a great view. But anywhere in this room is a great view. The waitress came and got out drinks and they were reasonably priced from $ 7-$ 10. The first two openers were not funny at all but the main act that came out that week was hilarious! I would definitely come back for only $ 18.95! Not bad!

For a friends birthday a handful of us gathered for the current headliner. I had never been to the«Catch a Rising Star» club before. We found the club basically right under the dome. At the door was a big guy. We asked him where do we get tickets. And he said«You can get them over there for $ 15 a piece… or we have a door special. 2 for $ 20. We were running late so I didn’t want to change course now. I gave the guy $ 20 and went inside. Bar service was right there and ready to take our first drink order. We must have walked in a few seconds too late because the first act was already up and going. Good musical stuff. Not AMAZING but solid music stuff. The next guy didn’t connect with the crowd… not his target audience with video game references and edgy jokes. There were quite a few awkward silent pauses. The next guy was loud enough and animated enough to get some response from the crowd. He was full of fat jokes… tons and tons of fat jokes. And you guessed it, he was the fat guy at the door. The headliner was better than the rest, thus the title of headliner. So if you wanna base the quality of talent that Catch a Rising Star gets for headliners on my experience. It’s pretty good. The place is small and well cared for and kept away from the noise and smoke of the casino. I will come back. The funny is worth the money.

To start with we’ve been to this comedy show spot many times over the last decade and it never disappoints. This last show we went to starred Daryl Wright and he is by far my new favorite comic. When in town be sure to make it to this spot and laugh your ass off for an hour and a half.

This was my first comedy show and I thoroughly enjoyed it. All comedians were very funny, especially the MC/host. A fun way to spend an evening!

This place was great! The drinks come quick and the staff is wonderful. 2 for 1 for locals, bonus! It is non-smoking, love or hate it. We saw Rich Aronovitch, he is hilarious

This is a great deal and lots of fun. Comedians often play in big casino«clubs» but the Silver Legacy is not really set up for headliners. Their ballroom gets set up with chairs that are more cafeteria than comfort. $ 40-$ 60 is a lot to pay for a cafeteria chair, even if the star is funny. However, CARS is a perfect venue and a perfect price. It’s a small, intimate room. We saw Gregg Vacriello last Saturday and he was HILARIOUS. Not mean, not foul, just funny.

When the hubby and I started dating, and we headed up to Reno several times a year(like…every other month) to get away and relax. we’d always go to Catch A Rising Star to watch a show. The very first show we ever went to(June of 2007) was really memorable. The comics were great. we laughed.we took pics w/the comics after. it was wonderful. Then a few shows after that… it started to go down hill: T We just didn’t laugh as hard. we enjoyed the host and his musical skills with the piano+guitar+devil mask. I think last year, we even decided not to catch any shows at the club, and we were pretty disappointed. Jan 2011 came. we decided to give it one more try… There we saw James Goff – a comic with hilarious talent and the friendliest guy there is. We were laughing so hard and said that that was one of the better shows we’ve seen at Catch. We came back again to Reno.yes.to relax. to get away. annddd…to go watch James Goff at Catch A Rising Star who of course killed it! Keep it up with the quality comics and we’ll always be back for more! :)

As a comedy nerd, I relish any opportunity to see some live action. Silver Legacy, you did not fail in providing me with some good entertainment. It’s a non-smoking(as much as it can be) and 21+ stage where you are treated to a couple comedians and even a musical show beforehand. Prepare to be heckled — this is an intimate theater area and the performers are not afraid to invade your personal space! All this for only $ 17 — don’t forget to check for coupons in your room, too, if you’re staying at the Silver Legacy. Drinks not included. The show I went to, in case you were wondering, headlined Joe Moffa. His comedy was what you’d expect from a tough New Yorker, abrasive but fun. But the real highlight for me(as an L&O:SVU fanatic) would be learning he was on a Season 6(my fave!) episode.(He did not mention this during his act, it was later discovered in my subsequent SVU-detective-worthy Googling of him.) My six degrees to Chris Meloni is one step closer now!

There’s always plenty of laughs at the show, but the wait staff exudes such bitterness it takes away from the experience. From the bleach-blonde rocker wannabe host who seems bothered to serve you to the growling, indifferent servers who can’t introduce themselves or ask what you’d like, the folks who staff this place almost suck the funny out of the show. I expect a ton better from the Silver Legacy. Best bet — go for the laughs and don’t order a drink. Oh, and seat yourself so you don’t bother the staff.
