I like grabbing a quick cup of coffee from Bytes. They give you a discount if you bring in your own mug. Usually multiple dark roasts and one light. They have sandwiches, bagels from Rounds, sushi, baked goods, fruit, yogurt, doughnuts, granola bars, and more. I like going here more than the student union. The staff in the summer are my favorite because they are super chatty. General it’s a slower time for them so they get excited. This business has students working behind the scenes and in front. Located next the the library makes it a great spot to grab something when studying!

Bytes is by far one of the best coffee places on campus, forget standing in line for 30 minutes plus at Starbucks. Bytes has a quick, friendly, fun staff that are also students so it makes you feel more comfortable in that environment. Another plus is that it is located inside the Knowledge Center at UNR so you can quickly grab your coffee and hit the books asap! Would definitely recommend to those who enjoy their coffee

I’ve gone through more bagel punch cards here than I’d like to admit. They’re sooo bad for you, but they’re soooo good. I also like to stop by this place to inject my brain with some good-feels-that-will-soon-turn-into-shitty-lethargy before I have to haul ass for something I should’ve studied a long time ago but didn’t. I’ll miss this place when I graduate.

I love their salted caramel mochas! They are just as good as something you could get at Starbucks, but a lot cheaper!

I’m not sure why anyone would go to Starbucks with this great place a few steps away on the ground floor of the Knowledge Center! I’m all about skipping the line, grabbing my coffee and pastry from Bytes, then finding a nice, quiet table in the library or rotunda. You’ll spend less time and less money — PLUS they have punch cards, so you can work your way to freebies!

This is the coffee shop/convenience store type place on the first floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center on campus. They’ve got Peets coffee, some breakfast items, pre-packaged salads and sushi. And no, before you think I’m some creeper hanging out on campus for unsavory reasons, blame my GF. She’s a med student, and sometimes she drags me along for moral support when she’s studying. The only reason I thought I’d write a review for the place is that the last time I was in here, I saw they had a «special» brew or something, priced a little higher than the standard drip. Wasn’t quite sure what it was, until I looked behind the counter and noticed a Bunn Trifecta behind the counter. For those who aren’t familiar, the Bunn Trifecta is geekdom applied to coffee. It’s got three phases, where it does a wetting out, then an extraction where the grounds are agitated with air and put into a pressurized chamber, and finally the hydrolysis, where air pressure is used to move the water through the grounds(and a metal filter). The real geekdom comes to light as the whole thing is programmable for different types of coffee. The machines retail for around $ 3000, while there’s a home version that’s a little north of $ 500. In any case, the guy making my coffee tried to tell me it’d be like a French press. On one hand, it’s a little spendy for a machine that makes a single cup at a time, but the standard La Marzocco you see in most higher end shops is at least $ 5 or $ 6k. The Trifecta probably makes sense for a location like this that may see high employee turnover, and doesn’t require a skilled barista. In any case, the coffee was decent, and much better than the drip I’d had there before. I don’t remember the price premium for it, and while I doubt they’ve got baristas that are completely geeking out with the Trifecta, coming up with different programs for different coffees, the novelty aspect is pretty cool.
