Out of the 5 or so taquerias we’ve tried in Redwood City while living here over the past year, we find ourselves coming back to this spot pretty much exclusively. The quality of the meat and selection is fresher and better prepared than the other restaurants, and the salsa and toppings are tastier as well. The price per taco is a little more than other places($ 2.50 each vs. $ 1.25-$ 1.75 at other places), but you get more than double the portion per taco(tortilla is larger and meat/filling is definitely more generous and satisfying). Furthermore, the owner(Maria) who always runs the place is very sweet and patient for those who don’t speak Spanish :) Give them a try! Yes, there is a random gentlemen’s club a block down but there’s no impact on the restaurant(maybe during super late hours perhaps? Though we’ve never had an issue or felt unsafe walking to/from this place).

Small restaurant, good food, okay service… Didn’t have spicy salsa which is a must at a Mexican restaurant of you ask me… delicious hand made tortillas that make your meal more enjoyable. We had the huevos rancheros and menudo with a side of refried beans. Happy with our selection, not over cooked or cold food, selfish flavors in both dishes. It’s hard to miss the restaurant as its small and on a Main Street but the place won’t disappoint. If you are looking for a good Mexican place that is also cost friendly definitely go there. Overall positive visit.

By far my #1 Mexican restaurant in redwood city true definition of a home cooked Mexican dish, strongly recommend this place for those of you that love home cooked meals.

This was good. Nice little neighborhood spot, Mexican boxing was on TV when I came in and everybody was watching. Well, OK, there weren’t a lot of people in there, but quite a number of people who knew each other filtered in and out during my entire meal. Everybody was enjoying each other’s company. Best part about this place was the service. Apparently family run, and the family really liked each other. Lots of joshing, lots of smiles. Everyone was happy to see me and jumped up to serve me. Thank you all for the enjoyable dinner! My chile rellenos were very tasty and a pretty good value for $ 13. Not the best chile relleno a I’ve ever had, but competent and good. The place was clean and attractive. Parking might or might not be rough. I parked on the street outside in front. But the place is small and the sign is smaller, so you might miss it and have to go around the block.(Like me. Ahem.) Open and busy until 10PM. Go there.

Randomly found this place while wandering around late at night. Maybe it’s because I’ve been up since 2AM, but these carnitas tacos with the hot salso were so good I’m considering going again for breakfast. So glad I didn’t just stop at Taco Bell. And no, I’m not high.

Been coming here for years now. We LOVE their burritos here; they are stacked and flavorful! Everything on their menu tastes fresh and authentic. Even though this is not a Salvadorean restaurant, their pupusas are the bomb! Definitely worth a visit!

This place has so many issues. 1) A regular burrito is 6 dollars and it’s a tiny, miserable thing of average flavor. I can get a much better, bigger burrito for less. 2) They give you some chips and a salsa tote and after that, they’ll charge you for chips and salsa. There’s so many places, especially in RWC, where you can get unlimited chips and salsa. The chips also tasted funny, like they were cooked in some cheap oil. 3) It’s in a dirty part of El Camino next to a strip club. There’s so many places in a nicer area with better parking. 4) Don’t come here if you don’t speak Spanish. You’ll have trouble with the women who run this place. 5) There’s a billiard room adjoining the place that looks pretty worn down. 6) The pupusas are not worth 2.50 each. They weren’t even very big and had very little flavor. Seriously, there’s no reason to come here.

I love that they make my carne asada burrito fresh, it takes a little longer but well worth it. Redwood city has redeemed themselves because last time I was here and I got some tacos at karlitas taco shop on woodside I was very dissatisfied especially after watching her put my tacos in the microwave. This place almost looked close from the outside but the tables and booths are clean and they are friendly.

I can’t believe that I haven’t reviewed this place yet, but I’ve been quite happy with it. I was introduced to it in May 2009 and have been a loyal customer ever since. The pupusas and all of the other food is made to order, so despite the wait — which is only 15 minutes or so anyway — this place is worth a visit, not to mention that they make their own tortillas! Tacos El Camino is also one of the only establishments in the area worth visiting that have Tacos Cochinita pibil, Birria, Al Pastor, Grilled or Steamed Chicken, Carnitas, Lengua, Carne Asada, and Chili Verde all on the same menu. If you’ve never had Birria I’d highly recommend trying it; it’s a moist, stewy beef that’s flavorful and far from tough in texture. The final plus to this place is that along with an excellent beverage selection — fresh juices and aguas frescas — most of the interior is booth seating which makes the experience extra comfortable. Pay no attention to the drunken idiots who play pool in the other half of the restaurant; they’re separated by another door anyway. The personalized service and the accommodating wait staff make this hole in the wall a true gem. You might have passed by it on El Camino for years without knowing that it existed, but trust me, it’s worth a try, but let’s hope that you don’t mind getting hooked. Tacos El Camino is finally an excellent value for the money conscious diner, with each pupusa only $ 2, the tacos at $ 2.50(but they are much bigger than you’d expect and three tacos can fill an exceptionally hungry adult) and the burritos at less than $ 6. The soups and other dishes are good too, but you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t order pupusas, your favorite agua fresca, and some tacos. Once you’re ready to move onto to something with some spicy new flavors, you should give the Cochinita pibil(spelled«pivil» on their menu) a try; its delicate pieces of pork with large strips of red onion and diced habanero pepper on tortillas. This place is why I made a drive to Redwood City every Wednesday and then some!

Awesome, Just awesome. My girlfriend has raved about this place for so long. And now I’ve been. And it has lived up to its reputation. Al pastor super burritos. Milanese tortas. Steak tacos. It was all so delicious, I thought my body was melting. And that only happens with food of the most severe deliciosity. It’s so good I’m making up words to describe it. If you’re within 100 miles of this place, you need to make a trip here. It is that good. Hell, I’m contemplating flying across the country again just to eat here.

Fortune smiled on me the day a coworker said, you like the tacos at the truck? I said, hell yeah… she said, let’s go to Tacos el Camino… I said… sure… This is a small place, small, cozy and very limited on the English. However they make their tortillas by hand and OMG are they amazing! No no no, seriously listen, they are not just amazing, they are shove them in your face gluttony amazing… seriously. All of the meats on the menu are out of this world, and the chile verde is quite good too. Be forewarned friend, the tacos here are not small, they are more like smallish unwrapped burritos and they double up the tortillas. If you’re in the area you should totally check it out…

A friend of mine who use to attend Menlo College told me about this place. Said they use to frequent at this little hole in the wall place, even called this place«DISNEYLAND»… So I just ate here for the first time today around 11:00am… Environment: –Definitely a hole n in the wall kind of place. Inside are a few tables but comfortable enough to dine in. Pool table attached on the side too. You know what they say about the food from these kinds of places… FOOD: VERYGOOD. We ordered two tacos and a burrito each. My buddy an I. Carne asada and carnitas. And let me tell you, the meat portions are MORE then generous at this place. Good size tacos and burritos, with all the fixins! Carne asada and carnitas all cooked just right. Disneyland? oh hellz yeah! PRICE: like any other hole n in the wall. Price was not too bad as well. So for the two tacos and a burrito, it was just around 10bucks or a tad bit more. VERY well worth it! Attached some pix from my low quality phone camera, but you at least get the idea. Would I come back here? Definitely! Not a 5 star rating only because parking actually sucks here.

I dream about the al pastor super burrito from New York. Whenever I visit my sisters, it is a huge treat to drive out to redwood city to get a super burrito. One of them used to live in Menlo Park, so it wasn’t a big deal to go there, but now they both live in San Francisco, yet we will still drive to Redwood City to get burritos. Yes, you have to get the super burrito. Don’t get tacos, don’t get a soup, don’t get a regular burrito. It’s all about the super burrito. Soooooo delicious! I haven’t had a burrito this good in my entire life!

This place is open REALLY late(past 2 am) and it is a serious hole-in-the wall. The food it good, the people nice, the neighborhood a bit sketchy(given that it is a couple doors down from the Hanky Panky Strip Club).

Another great little«hole in the wall» from the outside but«nice from the inside» joints. In fact if I were here at night I might not want to walk in. But sure enough the place has nice furniture and paint once you sit down and look around. The menu has a few entrees, seafood and of course tacos. When we looked at the menu, it said«large» tacos for $ 1.75. The last place I was at, the price was the same but the tacos were regular sized. Not here… these things were indeed jumbo. The 4 that I had felt like 6.5 and we were both damn full. We ran their gamut of asada, carnitas, chicken, chile verde, lengua, al pastor and birria. Everything was pretty tasty(except the asada was average) and the portions were enormous. It felt like I ate four enchiladas stacked to the brim with meat. I think three actually would be enough, but then I’m a glutton for variety. The waitress speaks some English and there’s a pool hall in the back room. The neighborhood is somewhat sketchy with some adult oriented stores and industrial shops nearby. There’s also an ancient bowling alley across the street where it seems there’s a lot of people sitting in their cars by themselves(read drug deals). Other than the less than ideal surroundings, it’s worth a checkout for the gargantuan tacos.
