Danielle is amazing! I have long hair and I’m obsessed with it! It’s incredibly hard for me to find AND trust salons because they always cut off more than I want! But Danielle is great at what she does AND she listens! The ambiance of this place is so cute, just try it out — you won’t regret it!

Being one of Alfred’s customers is like joining an elite club of privileged people in the bay area. We get the most awesome haircut at a super affordable price. We always look amazingly polished, even when we aren’t trying. That’s how good Alfred’s haircut is.
I don’t even have to blow dry my hair, everything just settled in the right place and my hair is always perfect. I often get stopped by random strangers asking for the name of my stylist. (Happened to me several times last year).
Anyone can get a hairdresser license, but Alfred has mad skills and is a rare gem in the hairstylist community.

Danielle is my go to girl for my hair, especially when it comes to color! She is very knowledgable about her craft and thinks outside of the box. I always tend to do something pretty crazy with my hair; and by that I mean pinks, blues, purples etc. But she somehow always manages to keep my hair healthy and feeling smooth even after sessions of bleaching. I always get complimented on how nice my hair has been done. I definitely recommend her! You’ll see me again in a few weeks!

I booked an appointment with Nielle for a haircut and get my hair washed. Nielle has done my hair before and I loved the results. I asked to get soft layers and again she didn’t disappoint. My hair was so much softer and healthier. You should definitely ask for her (: Parking can be a bit challenging because it is downtown, but it’s manageable depending on the time you go.

Alfred is awesome. He does a great job and takes his time to do a good job. I come here for my color and cut and always impressed.

I have been a customer of Alfred’s since 1998. When he moved his salon from Mountain View to Redwood City, I gladly followed him. He is extremely skillful and precise, and his salon is always beautifully maintained.

I was looking for a place to get my color and trim and left a voice message to make an appointment. I usually get my hair done only when I am in Japan or in NYC when I can go to salon that does a superb job, considering all aspects of service including using hair products that can be used for sensitive skin. A person from the salon called me back, and after making it clear that they don’t have many availabilities, I asked him what kind of products they use for coloring since I have had experience of stylist accidentally applying a bit if it on your scalp and it giving some sensation. He claimed that I must be allergic and if I am concerned about it, I should go to another salon. I told him I was not allergic, but I was just wondering if anyone had complained about such pain or irritation. Good salons will be prepared to answer such questions because they make sure they use products that will not have that kind of effect on their customers. He didn’t fully answer the question, told me that if I am concerned I should go to another salon and hang up on me! I have never been treated this way and if it was possible I would not even give a one star to this place. I was very excited when I read the reviews about this place and I am deeply disappointed.

Alfred saved my hair! After a complete disaster hair cut in San Carlos, I came across Alfred’s salon on Unilocal.Boy am I happy I went to him! He was careful, thorough, accurate and listened to exactly what I needed. I have fine, straight hair… and there’s A LOT of it. Which isn’t easy to cut (I’ve so discovered). He cut it to perfection! I highly recommend him. Highly!

One of the best salons I’ve been to so far. Alfred fixed my hair that was damaged by someone from great clips and made my hair the way I wanted it. He may seem reserved and not talkative yet he does that so he can concentrate on your hair and give you the best quality haircut. He’s really nice and I love his precision he has when cutting hair. He also checks carefully for any flaws and fixes them nicely. His appointment was about an hour yet was worth it, and you have to call in and leave a message with your name and phone number so he can call back and discuss with you for an appointment which us super easy. Alfred also made my hair look so pretty. I will never go to any other hair salon besides Découpage.

I have tried many asian own salon in South Bay and Peninsular and Alfred is the best to cut Asian hair, regardless of long or short.
He is very detail oriented, take his time and make it perfect. The only draw back is he doesn’t have any assistant to help in his salon, so it is very difficult to make an appointment with him. My suggestion is try to leave a message to provide a few dates and times to him and he will call back to confirm the appointment.

Alfred has over 33 yrs of professional experience and always painstakingly cut and style each haircut to perfection. I have never been disappointed in the last 6 years that I have been going to him for haircuts.

After reading the reviews here on Unilocal I had to try this place out. It’s tough finding a hair «stylist» who can cut your hair and then style it to perfection but this is the place. Alfred takes a long time, which bothers some people, but I prefer it since I like to wear the A Line and have to have perfection! I have been here once but will continue to go back because I LOVE my hair today. I may go a bit shorter in the back with more definition to the length in the front just to add a little flare before heading to Miami this summer. Either way, this guy is as good as it gets. Very impressed!

Just had my hair cut with Alferd. He is really a professional ! He didnt talk much, but I could feel that he was trying his best to make my hair perfect.
I love their shampoo and conditioner! They smell good and make my hair smooth!

I came in shambles from a previous cut/​color. I was a little nervous of what could happen, but hey it can’t get worse than what I currently had. I told Alfred what was bothering me and he pointed out all the things that went wrong with the previous cut. it’s uneven here and here and all these colors. I know! I know!
It was nice that I was the only one in the salon (he’s a one man show). I didn’t feel rushed, and he took his time to find the right color match. When it came to the cut he was working on me with such precision on angles. Even though he was cutting my hair… he made it appear longer! In the end, it was EXACTLY what I wanted in the first place. Hallelujah! I was so happy that i nearly cried (this may have been due to pregnancy hormones).
I’m coming back Alfred… you made me feel like a swan!

I typically get my hair cut 2 – 4 times a year. Back in the day at least one of those times was in Hong Kong where I grew up. But given my trips to the Far East have been dramatically cut down, I’ve become more desperate to find a hairdresser in the Bay Area.
Somebody in my mom’s group recently asked for a stylist recommendation for Asian hair, and Découpage came up. I read the Unilocal reviews and perked up. I was intrigued that Alfred speaks Cantonese!
I’ve been growing out my hair for months now and it was almost down to my waist when I went for a cut today. Given the length, it cost $ 55 which is very reasonable. I considered getting highlights but decided against it given my hair isn’t even black anymore (it’s looking more dark brown these days). Alfred noticed the ends were very dry (I used to get a perm once a year) and suggested a hair treatment for an extra $ 15.
I did chat with Alfred (in Cantonese no less) a bit at the beginning of the cut, but he stopped talking when I did which I appreciated — I am uncomfortable with hairdressers who insist on talking the whole time.
Alfred cut off about 3 – 4 inches and added some layers. It looks great! It’s lighter, healthier and has movement. As an FYI, the client who was got her hair cut before me has been going to Alfred for 18 – 19 years. She was maybe 50 years old and had short, spiky hair. She pulled it off too. I mention it in case you are wondering whether Alfred can cut short hair. I would say yes.
I will definitely come back.

From the age since I first had hair on my head until about 24, my hair was always awkward looking. Perhaps I have a funny shaped head or oddly behaving hair, but I chalk it off mostly to stylists that never quite understood how to do an Asian man’s hair. Throughout primary school, high school and even college, I experimented with a variety of hair stylists, all with little success. Usually, they were either awkward attempts at applying Caucasian hair styles or the dreaded Asian fade/​spikey thing. I never really liked my haircuts, but I always got over it after a couple of weeks when it grew out. However, once I moved to New York and had my first taste of a true Hong Kong style haircut man barber person, I was hooked. I didn’t realize that I could actually have hair that I liked. I happily got my haircut from this guy for three years and life was good.
Thank goodness, Alfred has picked up where the last guy left off. I was a little concerned about moving to a new place and having to relive 20 years of awkward haircuts again, but this guy knows what he’s doing. He’s careful and precise. He matches the style to your head rather than simply applying what’s «trendy» to your head even if inappropriate. It’s pricer and takes longer than your average Supercuts, but that’s what you get when you’re working with a guy dedicated to his craft.
