I only go in to get their food. Its pretty good. I usually just order a carne asada torta with fries on the side. Being Mexican, I only like their tortas from there… so good! Especially their fries. Apparently their tacos and other meals are good too.

Very skimpy with meat. I paid 13 for a burrito and it still had half the meat of any other mex joint. My sister couldn’t even see the meat in her soggy bean drowned nachos.

The buchers were very helpful when I was shopping for some meats for tacos. And they weren’t staring or oogling me all creepy like most other times I go into Mexican markets.

Best seasoned chicken breasts and freshest homemade chunky guacamole. Pricey but worth it for a good treat.

I am kicking myself for not coming in here sooner! Went in to get a breakfast burrito and an order of chilaquiles from the taqueria. Both were really yummy! Inside the store they have a pretty big selection of pan dulce including one of my favorites that I haven’t had since I was a kid. They also have a pretty big meat selection. The store was very clean and staff was friendly.

I have shopped at Chavez Market before. Even though I am proud to be Hispanic and I like to see other Hispanics increase in the business world, I got to say, this market is very over prized. A 24 pack of Dasani water sells for $ 8+, while I can get the same item at Target for $ 4+. Figure out the math.

This used to be my go to place for tacos, burritos, or quesadillas. In the past year I’ve noticed that for non Hispanic patrons of the taqueria things have changed, at the beginning they started using scales to weigh meat for whatever they are making you. It’s confusing because I’ll be in a line behind Hispanic people, families, and groups and they never have their food weighed. But last night I ordered something I’ve probably ordered more than 20 times, a lengua quesadilla, the guy making it pulled 3 smaller pieces of meat out of the broth it’s cooked in and then cuts one piece in half and throws back the a whole piece. I asked what he was doing and he said«its regular size, right?» It wasn’t enough meat for a taco. He weighed it and it couldn’t have been more than 4 oz. for $ 7.50. Some quick food math, a quarter pounder at McDonald’s is about that much meat for about $ 2. I don’t appreciate the racism from the taqueria staff. Other than that Chavez the market had reasonably priced foods and great chicharon con carne.

Super Burritos now cost $ 9.49 + tax. They also weigh the meat(they try to hide the scale) before putting it in your burrito.

This is my favorite mexican food restaurant. Everything is always fresh. You have to try the shrimp gordita plate, it’s delicious.

We love their burrito salad bowls! If you’re trying to eat low carb and wheat free, this is the best way and in fact, only way, to enjoy the flavors of Chavez’s delicious meats. Tonight they had a little problem though, because they«ran out» of the right lettuce and veggies that go in the salad, so they couldn’t serve me. But, they didn’t really run out, since the taqueria is part of a grocery store, and for whatever reason, they couldn’t send someone to fetch them lettuce and broccoli! It was a little bit ridiculous for me because its the only menu item we can have. I offered to walk to the produce aisle for them, and they didn’t think it would be appropriate for me to do so. I even offered to buy the lettuce myself, and they turned me down for that as well. That got me thinking that either someone is lazy, or poorly trained, or there is a bigger problem, which resulted in a hungry customer walking out without a purchase. Normally I would have given them 4 stars, but because of tonight’s mishap, 3! Hopefully this is just an isolated incident. We are regulars so we’ll try again sometime soon!

This is my favorite place to get Mexican food in the Bay Area. The menu offers all the classic Mexican dishes as well as a few specialties. The majority of Mexican meats are available– I love the carne asada and al pastor myself. I have a few go to dishes, which I rotate between. I love the super burritos– they are giant but you really can’t go wrong. The tacos are also extremely delicious and pretty cheap. And when I feel like having a lighter Mexican meal, I always order the nopales and eggs. Today, I tried the carne asada cheese fries. The fries were homemade just for me and it was extremely delicious. I did have a stomach ache after because the food was so rich, which often happens after I eat here, but it’s worth it. Also GETTHEGUAC. It’s amazing. And the agua fresca– watermelon is my favorite but I had papaya today which was almost as good. My mom swears by the coffee which is Mexican style with cinnamon and spices. Oh forgot to mention, this place is EXTREMELY affordable, so you can’t go wrong.

Very good Mexican food. I have had better in Mexico and San Diego… but this is pretty good for the area(which lacks good authentic Mexican food). I tend to order tacos every time I visit the taqueria here. Lengua and Carne Asada are my favorite. The grocery store meat case has a lot of variety and it all looks fresh and tastes yummy(carne asada again)… People are normal there, no complaints. Grocery store has everything you can ask for — even fresh cactus! yum!

Very disappointed, I’ve been here for years and I still don’t know why I come back. The burritos are always cold!!! I don’t care if the burrito is ready in less than rather wait 15 mins to have a nice warm one… oh and btw they don’t carry Campbell’s Tomato soup… along with apparently half of the markets in Redwood City… had to go to Key Market for my soup… ridiculous.

This place was great when it first opened. Authentic made in house food good size portions, but the last couple times I’ve been there the food has been awful and the portion size has dropped drastically. The employees never smile and don’t make you feel welcome at all, they just try and get you out if quick as possible. I orders the chili rojo and literally got 6 pieces of meat and 4 of them were all fatty and dried out and two were just bones. This is my last time going I’ve given it enough chances already.

This is a fact. The best guacamole is here. No, I do not want to hear about your secret family recipe. It’s better here. You want«chunky» with big bites of tomato and onion? How about creamy? It’s here and it’s the best. The salsa counter is 5 star kick ASS. You cannot make it better.

This review is only for the Taqueria part of the store. If you’re looking for a no-frills, so-full-you’re-going-to-burst, solid burrito choice, then look no further. Chavez is a straightforward place without a confusing amount of choices. There are two types of tortillas, two types of beans, rice, the usual toppings, and a varied selection of meat. I went for a vegetarian burrito– whole wheat tortilla, rice, pinto beans, guacamole, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, cheese, sour cream, and both red and green salsas. The guy behind the counter didn’t ask me a bunch of silly questions but instead threw my burrito together at light-speed, wrapped it up, and sent me on my way. And that burrito? It was good. Real good. They know exactly what they’re doing there.

ahahahaha as I write this review I can’t help but laugh. As I was walking near the meat counter, some soccer mom in Lulu Lemon pants asked in a high pitched voice, «Do you guys sell salmon?» The guy behind the counter looked so confused, «Simon? No. Who Simon?» He yelled for another guy and asked him, «Que es Simon? No se.» The other guy asked the lady what she wanted, and she said as slowly as she could, «Saaaaaaaaaaa — monnnnnn.» His response, «OH! Salmon! No. We don’t sell salmon here.» Which leads me into my review. THISIS A TRIEDANDTRUECARNICERIA, FOLKS! Don’t come here trying to find escargot, filet mignon, and Kobe beef for your Atherton dinner party. ORALE ! Whether you’re cooking menudo or preparing tortas, Chavez Supermarket has you covered. They offer a variety of meats, Hispanic/Latino seasonings/spices, vegetables, and Hispanic/Latino branded groceries. The employees are friendly and will help you as much as they can. I’ve yet to try food from the Taqueria, but I hear it’s great!
