Dr. James is very nice and sweet, but his office staff that run his front desk lacks insurance knowledge, do not pay attention to information on patient’s paperwork, and girl in charge of charging patients for their office visits fees does not do research on patient’s insurance coverage and made up fees to charge. Also, as a parent, my child being a minor went in first to see the doctor, and I was never asked to come in as the parent to discuss with me any issues. After my teenager son came out from the exam and said he was done, I noticed the majority of his paperwork asking him about his health on his eyes and any health issues was empty. I started to wonder how can a doctor’s office do an exam on someone’s eyes, without reading the information that the patient wrote about their eyes and any issues that the patient may be having with his vision. This is not acceptable and it means that front desk ignored this detail and the technicians performing the eye exams plus the doctor. At end of visit, girl in front desk in charge of asking for the fees for my office visit stated that my insurance charges a higher fee of copay to me because Dr. James is a Ophthalmologist, so she charged me over $ 200 for the office visit. When I was writing a check, she said no checks accepted by new patients. Only cash or credit card. I asked her why I was not told that on the phone when appt. was done and she said she did not know. I told her to let the other girls know that take appts. for new patients, that it was very inconvenient when they do not give out that information After that appt. I just felt very uncomfortable about this office visit. Lack of comunication, paperwork left blank, tech or doctor not saying much about exams to the patient, and the high fees that were collected. I called my vision insurance today, and I found out that I was not supposed to be charged anything for my visit. I had 100% coverage, which meant that this office never called my vision insurance to check on my coverage and madeup the fees that I was charged. Interesting learning experience. Never going back to this office again. I visited the Torrance office location.

Now I’m definitely not a big fan of going to the doctor. It seems that the older one gets, the more the doctor seems to find wrong. That being said, it’s been probably well over 20 years since I’ve been to the eye doctor. I’ve always prided myself on having excellent vision, but since I’ve hit the big 40 I figured it was time. Not to mention I noticed I’m starting to do the looking down at stuff bit. So I did some research and came across Dr. Bryan. He’s close to the house and he’s an ophthalmologist as opposed to just an optometrist. Overall I’m glad I chose this doctor. He has an old school feel about him and I liked that. He’s an older gentleman but I could tell he definitely knew what he was talking about. His manner was not always business either. We chatted a bit about different things and he definitely put me at ease. He answered and addressed all of my questions, comments and concerns. At no time did I feel like he was in a rush to get me to the next patient. He’s definitely top notch. I have VSP insurance so the only thing I had to do when I arrived was provide my name and some personal information. That was it. As soon as the examination was over,(my sight is fine btw) the lady at the front desk sent me on my way and said«See ya next year!» Well they definitely will be seeing me again…

The dr was very nice and friendly. That being said I am very disappointed. I made the appointment stating I needed glasses AND contacts and that my schedule was very tight and not flexible. They only wrote me a prescription for glasses and said I had to come back for another appointment to get the contacts. They should have said that in the FIRST place. I would not have come to see them. VERYVERY misleading in my opinion. I do not have a schedule that allows me to come in on the days she is there. Now I will have to go somewhere else to get my contacts. I will not return. Their excuse is that sometimes they have a girl answer e phones who doesn’t know all the procedures. Might want to educate your staff.

Dr Bryan is an excellent doctor. I found him many years ago through an online search and it was spot on! The staff is super helpful and they will book you according to your needs. I’ve never had a long wait and the consultation is always very professional and a great experience. Very trustworthy!

I’ve been having floaters in my left eye, I picked this doctor bc the ones I want to see are on vacation, and he is the closest one to my house, plus he’s in the network, also there a few positive reviews. Waiting was kind of long, 40 mins, there were two patients ahead of me. Clean office, staff are adequately polite It took them three tries to dilate my eye, the assistant commented my eye is too stubborn, ha. Since I put down Unilocal as my referral to the business, both the assistant and the doctor asked me, «what’s Unilocal?» prompting me to give each of them a brife history of Unilocal individually. Hey, shouldn’t I get paid for this? I guess he’s well-established here, cause I recognize his face from back in the days when i was working in S. Bay Hospital. No hello or any pleasantry when first seeing me, but instructing me to put my purse on the chair. He seems to be a genteel person, so maybe that’s the way he operates. He checked my eye with bright beam of light, and informed me that there is no tear to my retina, but he needs to see me in three weeks. I had a few questions to ask him but he gestured me to leave. Oh well, doctors are busy, I understand that. Overall, nah. I had it better

I called yesterday to see if they could squeeze me in today. I am a first time patient. I was so glad that they did without hesitation. The Front Office staff are extremely pleasant to deal with. I find that refreshing. Sometimes people who have been working in an office for many years tend to treat patients badly. I was seen 15 minutes after my appointment time but that is not bad at all. Dr. James was thorough and I felt like he listened and did not feel that he was in a rush to get me out. I left with a prescription and a follow up appointment that I can’t wait to go back for. The staff really are warm and Dr. James makes it easy even if you are a little nervous.

I came to Dr. James because I had an eye infection from my contact lenses. He easily diagnosed me and put me on some eye drops. He is great, his office is nice and clean and comfy, the receptionist is very sweet. The location is great with god parking at the Beach Cities Health District building. Dr. James was easy to talk to and I didn’t feel rushed. Would recommend to anyone. He does routine eye exams as well as laser and other eye diagnoses.

Went in for a routine VSP eye check up, so it’s simple stuff compared to having eye surgery. Nevertheless, there is a sense of extreme compentency in his manner and in how the staff operates. Talked about how a particular antibiotic will need a double mutation before it become resistant and something about the structure of the drug — glad he’s on top of that stuff. Trained at Mayo clinic and was chief of staff at Little Company of Mary from what I can recall
