Bullfrog Bar & Grill

So this review has nothing to to with the nightly entertainment or the bar scene. Or the ambiance, which definitely is a little grungy. It’s strictly about lunch. And it’s not so bad.
My friend an I hadn’t been here in many years, since they used to do a Tuesday lunch special of an 8oz steak, potato, corn and roll for $ 2.99. They don’t do that anymore.
So we both got the Bullfrog burger and fries. The fries were thin but crispy, nothing special but pretty good, and about the right quantity. This ain’t 5 Guys.
The burger was actually pretty damn good. I didn’t weigh it but I don’t really doubt it was pushing ½ pound. It had a nice flat-​top sear and was perfectly medium, which I rarely get. simple lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. All in all, a really good deal at $ 6.00 (including 50 cents for cheese).
It’s not Mason’s or Millers, but it’s easily worth that.
Service wasn’t exactly top notch, but not neglectful considering the bartender was handling the whole room. I’ll go back for lunch.

It’s a low key bar and dark inside. I wouldn’t pay to go in there but it wasn’t bad.
Beers in bottle are $ 3.50 and draft beers in cups are $ 2.50.
A lot of bands and new artists perform there; promotion groups host there as well and if you talk to the owner they might throw in a good deal.
Bartenders are young but nice — doesn’t really pay attention but they are talking with others but she made it up by giving me a free drink and also lowing the prices on a couple of shots.
Not bad but of course I could see some improvement.

I’ll preface this by saying that it got 1 star because I couldn’t give it 1.5
The first thing to hit me when I walked in the door was the stench of soething extremely skanky. It smelled like a sleazy strip club mixed with urine and vomit. It was dark inside, and I was the only customer. Not good so far. The waitresses (2) were dressed to little for the quality of what they were displaying (cover that up, PLEASE!), but they were at least nice. I ordered the Bullfrog Burger special & a diet coke. The food came out quickly enough and there were precisely 12 fries in the basket. Really? The burger was cooked well and had a decent flavor, but I HIGHLY doubt that it was a ½ pounder as advertised. It came with some old lettuce core, a slimy tomato, and some very strong onions, all of which I passed on. I ate and was ready to go in 10 minutes.
The only up side, the whole thing was $ 6.00, which based on quantity was still too much. I would really avoid this place at all costs!

I have been here a few times in my life & always to see a friends band, I would never set foot in here otherwise. They have a huge banner hanging up behind the stage that says «voted hottest waitstaff in Michigan» and I assume that only their waitstaff voted because they aren’t even attractive let alone hot. The same girl has waited on me the last 2 times I was here & she kept her money in her bra… it was so gross watching her fish around for my change!
The bathrooms smell like vomit all the time, the décor & the entire inside of the bar are both very dated, super 90’s & the DJ who plays in between sets is good but the clientele here don’t really take to his music, nobody ever dances & he is way too loud so I don’t get why they even have one. There is no parking here, we almost always have to park down the street & the neighborhood is shady so I really wish my friends would find new bars to play at because I’d rather not ever set foot in here again.

omg! for real? NEVER going back. Horrific entertainment last night, stupid cover charge and ridiculously overpriced drinks.

Fun times, cheap bottles, great place to hear a friend’s band rock out.
This place is weird. Not quite a dive bar, nor a sports bar… i guess it’s almost a low-​level rock club (or singer-​songwriter cove). There’s a giant banner hanging near the ceiling that says in bold, fiery font «HOTTEST BARTENDERS IN MICHIGAN» … total lolz.
Lots of seating (and you can choose from barstools, to tables, to big booth-​style seats). I found the service fast and friendly, a good range of bottle to choose from (though the bartender hadn’t heard of Sam Adams before and had a hard time locating it in the fridge… wowzers…). Got to hear a great guitar/​harmonica/​drums duo do their blues and covers act.
I’d be back if I knew who was playing on stage again. Totally fine bar.

The problem is that they let any band play in there no matter if their good or they suck. $ 6 cover I paid to see a horrible band that should not be on a stage anywhere. It had nothing to do with the music type they were just a talentless band.
There were two other bands left to play but I didn’t want to take a chance if they were any good. I should of asked for my cover back, LOL! The place was mostly empty and I can guess why, High cover for bad entertainment will not get you a regular crowd.

I hadn’t been back to the Bullfrog Bar and Grill in years. My last visit was a less-​than-​stellar experience, but I thought ‘Hey, a friends band is playing, it would be nice to go out and support them. And maybe the place has gotten better!’
Unfortunately, not too much seems to have changed with this place since my last visit, aside from maybe the individuals making up the waitstaff. As it is a rather small place, I recommend getting there early on Saturday night if you hold any hope of finding a place to park or sit down (as both seating and parking are very limited.) The ladies room was rather grimy, and much like the last time, one of the two stalls in the place was unusable. The floor and walls aren’t blatantly dirty, but you can tell there’s a good layer of grime on everything in that place.
The bar staff appeared bored and uninterested in their job.(If I seem overly critical here, it might be because I am a bartender) It took 7 minutes of waiting (at a point when the bar was not that busy) and me waving money and trying to get the attention one of the two girls behind the bar. They seemed more interested in texting on their iPhones and smoking (One kept her cigarette in her hand/​mouth) while making my drink! GROSS!) The waitress didn’t seem that much friendlier, unless she was taking care of the table of people she appeared to know, and when she had to get by me, stopped and stared at me looking annoyed and pushed forward at me with her tray a couple of times. Very, very rude.
As soon as my friends band was done, we were outta there! The attitude of the staff (aside from the girl working the door who was friendly) was a total buzz kill. Will I return again? Probably not. Nothing is more of a turn-​off in a bar than rude and disinterested staff.
