I know. Many people really appreciate this restaurant. I’m just not in that camp. The best I can say is that the interior is very nice and the service was great. But I go to restaurants for the food. I can excuse average service and atmosphere if the food is great. But my curry dish was just average. The Som Tum(papaya salad) was better than the curry. This Thai restaurant is A-OK, but I want fantastic.

This was my first time ordering from here and sadly this was not a good experience. We had our meal delivered to my place of employment through entrée express, and it arrived rather quickly.(will give one star for this) But I will give no stars for the food, at least my food. This was the most unsatisfying lunch I’ve ever eaten! The Drunken Noodles or Pad Kee Mao were more like ‘watered down noodles’. The noodles were a bland color and flavor. I had four prawns, two pieces of broccoli with very little shredded cabbage and a few sprigs of shredded carrots, and chili flakes. Where were the rest of the veggies? Where was the flavor? Where was the spiciness? I ate about a quarter of my meal, and then tossed it. I will continue my search for a decent Thai Restaurant in Redding as this one missed the mark entirely.

Road conditions coming through Redding were nuts so we pulled over for some food and I was stoked to find some Thai !! I ordered the tom yum and it satisfied … I have been to Thailand so it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had but I would be open to eating at the café again! It’s hard to judge a Thai place without eating curry or pad Thai so thumbs up until further evaluation …

Unfortunately I cannot say I’ll be back. I remembered this place being good so I figured I give it another try. Drunken noodles tasted like fish & soup like water with some vegetables in it. Atmosphere was out of the 70’s and we seated ourselves. Wouldn’t have minded that part if the food was good. I’ll stick to Champa or Rose Garden.

My family decided to try Thai Café for the first time tonight, and it was just okay. I lived in Thailand for over half a year and became obsessed with pad gra pow; when I eat at another place in town i can order it the thai way(all the ingredients minced with an over easy egg on top), that was a no go here :(. I think this is a decent american-thai restaurant, but if you’re searching for a traditional place keep looking because there are much better options in Redding.

Driving up I almost didn’t go in, but now I am glad I did! I was greeted by a super friendly waitress who promptly took my order. I ordered the eggplant with tofu. It came with what looked like a pathetic salad, but while it was small, it was fresh and I loved the dressing! My eggplant dish was excellent. This would be a five star review if they used fragrant Jasmine rice.

Horrible food. I order the drunken noodles with chicken. It had a weird fishy flavor to it. I will never eat there again.

First time eating here. I ordered the Evil Prince which unfortunately smelled and tasted like wet dog. My boyfriend liked it and ate it though. We shared the Chicken Satay which was yummy. I ordered the Pad Kra Pao; it was OK but I’m pretty sure they forgot salt. I don’t think we’ll be eating there again.

The best thai restaurant around, I’ve been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. Great food, great prices, and always great service. The red curry is my favorite and the angel wings are delicious!

I will never go back. All my food tasted like fish and I didn’t order fish. It was REALLY bad. I didn’t mention my opinion to family and they all complained. I’m so disappointed because I had heard good things. Food was fresh. Just covered in something that tastes like a dead fish. We ordered basil chicken and got a container full of uncooked green beans. Some chicken was included and it tasted strange. I am throwing away our dinner and cooking Ramen. Ruined evening dinner thanks to Thai café. Yuck!!!

After the long early morning drive up highway 5 and spending some time at the Paul Bunyan Camp and the Sun Dial Bridge It was time for lunch. We wanted some place close by. The Unilocal app came to the rescue, and we ended up here. Kevin had something healthy; Linda and I shared the chicken Pad Thai lunch special, which came with an eggroll and cabbage salad. It was more than enough for the two us to share. It was good and reasonably priced. I’m not sure if I would stop again. Not because of the food, but because I would like to see what else Redding has to offer.

Unfortunately, this was not the freshest thai that I’ve had in Redding. The chicken had an unusual taste.

What I like most about this place is that, unlike some other Thai restaurants(especially in Redding), if you order«Thai hot» it is actually Thai hot – as in, I’m crying while I eat it, but in a good way. The food has always been good, but I gave it 4⁄5 stars because the service can be pretty slow even when there aren’t many/any other customers.

Ended up here on accident, so glad we did! Redding is hurting for good restaurants, and this one is a diamond in the rough. Looks a little sketchy from the the outside(which is typical with Thai restaurants), but parking lot was full and it was busy inside. Got a Chicken Pad Thai lunch special, which came with an eggroll and cabbage salad, $ 8.52 out the door. My husband and I shared and it was tasty. Not the best I’ve had, but I would eat there again and try tons of their menu(everyone’s food looked amazing, and they were all satisfied). Yay for off the beaten path!

Stopped in on a road trip because we were hungry for Thai. The hole in the wall façade didn’t discourage us, as we’ve encountered some of the best Thai experience in places that look unlikely from the outside. This one lived up to its appearance. To be fair, the Thai basil chicken was quite good. But the oil in the fryer clearly needed to be changed. The spring rolls had an old oil taste to them. Worst of all was the papaya salad. It was inedible, and gave us both the sense that we shouldn’t swallow the first bite. We’ve had this dish hundreds of times in different places, some better than others, but this was plain awful. We told the waitress, and her response was«Yeah, I don’t like that here either.» But no offer to replace it with something else or remove it from the bill.

I met the evil prince here and he was clearly pushing an agenda… you know he doesn’t hide his motives nearly as well as he would like to think he does. His whole argument was layered, first building on fresh and crunchy shredded cabbage(speaking figuratively of course) and then softening with broken noodles, some veggies and then the pièce de résistance which brought me over to his side… the curry sauce. So in the end I did agree with the evil prince and take home an order of sweet sticky rice with mango… dessert, midnight snack or breakfast… works out well for all of them! The very nice and attentive staff did not help me maintain my resolve with their overt friendliness I might add in my defense. *note for the obtuse– the«evil prince» is a dish, not an actual person, the speaking figuratively was actually speaking literally… literally. **side note-people that use words like«obtuse» may or not be intellectual snobs… or maybe they just respect the reader’s intelligence.

I’ll be honest this place looks like a hole in the wall and the interior isn’t that much better. But that doesn’t matter because the food is great. I’ve eaten Thai food for a long time and this has consistently been one of the best places I’ve been. You can also ask for extra Thai hot and they’ll make it that way for you rather than assuming you have no idea what hot food is because you’re white. Service has always been good and they don’t take forever to make your food. I’ve eaten here a lot recently and in the past decade they’ve never disappointed. Everything I have had here has been really good. The Evil Prince is great, the Pad Thai is really good but my favorite is the Chicken Larb with a side of sticky rice.

Thai Café is the place where my love of Thai food all started when I was a teen. I came here before and after I first went vegetarian. It’s probably the first place I ever had tofu that was cooked properly, unlike the whole in the wall Chinese places. On my recent visit to podunk’ville I got to see if it stands up to the best of The Bay. My mom begged me to take her to Thai Café. Me being the good son, who am I to say no? You don’t have to twist my arm to say yes to Thai! The pretty waitress was very patient and accommodating with our picky group of eaters. Where was she at back when I lived here? The food was brought out quick and the water always stayed full. The interior is filled with all manners of traditional looking Thai decorations. The deep fried tofu app was practically entrée sized. Although it’s a pretty basic dish, the included peanut sauce adds some zing. Their Spring Rolls are still deep fried perfection. Another vegetarian thing on the table was the Tom Yum. A delicious and zesty soup, dragged down by some nearly inedible bamboo shoots. The veg fried rice was ok but I wouldn’t order it again. Way too«pasty» for my taste. I remember their green curry and the Evil Prince to be good but I didn’t order it because I was saving room for dinner at another place that never materialized. I really wish I did! So it seems the first(as far as I know) Thai restaurant in town is still the best. It just isn’t what I’m used to anymore. I’m afraid Thai Idea in SF has ruined me for all other Thai places… I’ll still make Thai Café a stop, whenever I’m in town. It’s a great post Sundial Bridge dining spot.
