J’s Ice Cream Parlor

Me and my friend tried this place and I am sure glad I did. I have never tasted ice cream this creamy and delicious in my life. I always order the banana split with chocolate ice cream and hot fudge and let me tell you it is by far the best tasting banana split I have ever had. The lady that works there is very friendly and is always nice to me and my friend and she even sometimes gives me extra hot fudge for free. Their ice cream is from Sacramento which is from Gunthers ice cream. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves ice cream.

After a long day in the hot sun kayaking around Whiskeytown Lake, we came to J’s for a refreshing treat. The ice cream is a little expensive, but I am always happy to pay a little more for good quality ice cream. The staff is friendly and we savored the goodness of their yummy ice cream. We are planning to return the next time that we are in Redding.

Based off the other reviews and the fact that they claim to use Gunther’s Ice Cream… I was expecting much more from this ice cream parlor. I was in shock when I got the total for my ice cream… a wopping $ 6.88! All I got was a stale waffle cone, two scoops of ice cream and some really runny hot fudge. There was nothing special about this place and I likely wont return. I would have rather of driven to 30 min to Red Bluff and got ice cream from Scoops or just driven around the corner to Cold Stone. This place also does not have the ideal location either. it’s in a run down area of town tucked and hidden away.

We’re from Sacramento so Gunthers is a familiar name to us, so we were very excited to see they were serving it here.

Delicious ice cream. I had a double scoop of rocky road on a waffle cone. Highly recommended.

Great ice cream, and super friendly service. Remember to ask if they have your favorite flavor… NOT ALL ARE OUT FRONT FOR U TO SEE. Mmmmmm! I love banana ice cream!

The ice cream was tasty and the atmosphere felt very friendly.

Pretty decent, gets the job done ice cream. Hard to find at night. Nothing too original but hits the spot. Serves Gunthers out of Sacramento.

Came to Redding in the dead of summer (poor choice) and was DYING for a cold treat. When my mom told me that there weren’t really anymore ice cream parlors in town (no, fro-​yo doesn’t count as REAL ice cream) I was super bummed. Luckily I thought to check Unilocal first and I am so glad I did! This place was great; there were tons of different ice cream flavors — lemon, pecan, cookie dough, mango, bittersweet chocolate, birthday cake, swiss chocolate orange, cotton candy, the list goes on and on. I had birthday cake AND cookie dough (fat kid at heart) with fudge on top and it was deliciousssss! Wishing I had some right now… :) The dude serving the ice cream was friendly and polite too– good manners are important, right? I’ll be back.

Terrific on a hot day passing through town! Friendly clerk, lots of choices, and generous portions!
