I’ll admit I’m somewhat biased because I have always preferred the original location but stand by my opinion that the quality has definitely slowly gone downhill ever since that time several years ago. The theme is great as well as the original artwork that makes up a good part of the décor. They used to play Beatles music all the time but last I went it was just the regular radio; it took away from the atmosphere. The food does not seem to be as fresh as it used to be and with all the sandwich choices in the area you can find much better. There was also hardly anything to buy to drink out of the coolers there. Maybe about 15 lonely cans of odds and end stuff in the whole place. Also looks can be deceiving but it doesn’t appear to be super clean in there which doesn’t add to your enjoyment level when you’re trying to eat. Sadly, I probably could go without ever eating there again which is a shame because I used to be a fan. Overall there are plenty of other better establishments to choose from on Penn Avenue in West Reading.

This place is pretty great for vegetarians! They have a veggie cheese«steak» that’s heads above those faux Philly cheesesteaks with fake meat. The French fries are prepared very nicely, they fry them in peanut oil, which produces a crispy outside and a delightful taste. The Beatles theme is really fun. They have some pretty cool artwork on the inside… this makes the wait for your order all the more pleasant!

If you’re a fan of the fab four you’ll like this place. If you a fan of tasty fries, you’ll like this place. If you are a fan of a yummy steak sandwich, you’ll like this place. Yellow Submarine serves up one of the best steak sandwiches in Berks County. The bread has always been fresh and soft and the ingredients they put inside of the sandwich(and have available to choose from) are all very good. They serve up fresh cut fries, cooked in 100% peanut oil, and then delivered in a brown paper bag. And their fry portions are good, a large order is enough for me and the Mrs. The food is a solid 3.5 out of 5. When you first walk into the shop the Beatles motif will grab you, the shop may not be a time machine back to the 60’s, but crossing over the Yellow Submarine’s threshold, you’ll feel like you are walking into a full emersion experience. The paint could use some freshening up giving the establishment a worn feeling. However, some of their Beatles paraphernalia is just outstanding. I have always been greeted by friendly and helpful staff which more than makes up for the less than perfect décor accoutrements of the shop. For décor, atmosphere and service, I give this place a sold 3.25. Over all I give this shop 4 stars because the food is very good and the people have always been very nice. So if your looking for a good sub and fries as good as five guys, served in a unique atmosphere and friendly service give Yellow Submarine a try. Try it you’ll like it!

I’m a local, and this sandwich shop is not the best Berks has to offer. The place is tiny, and the Beatles memorabilia in the shop is dusty and dingy. Owner was preparing sandwiches and bragging how he just pulled through a ‘rush’ without making any mistakes as I’m picking the onions out of the steak I ordered without onions. When I informed him of this, he blamed his younger female worker who had just exited the kitchen, calling her an «idiot». The sandwich itself could have been good, but there wasn’t a lot of steak, and the onions ruined the taste for me. The people I went with had the chicken cheesesteaks, which were also mediocre. The fries were not crispy but they were greasy, oil tasted like it needed to be changed. At checkout, he never even apologized or offered any reduction in price. He didn’t even acknowledge I had a bad experience there. Well, you can’t change a first impression. For the price, and in a county where there are many sandwich shops, this overall was not a good value.

Was torn between 3 and 4 on this one. I had one of the better cheesesteaks I’ve had at Yellow Submarine over the Thanksgiving holiday — perfectly seasoned and textured meat, whiz, jalapenos for spice, and a delicious bun that was moist and soft but didn’t absorb all the steak juices and become a spongy mess. The fries cooked in peanut oil, however, were underdone when they brought them to us and literally like eating sliced potato that just happened to be really hot on the outside. That was a big letdown. The place is small — just your«average» sandwich shop in the middle of the suburban town of Reading, PA, but it’s unique in that they have a Beatles-theme, including walls covered in colorful paintings of the legendary rock band w/quotes on it, and a pretty creative little menu. It’s nothing fancy, but then isn’t that what defines a cheesesteak? I’ll be going back before I leave this little town for another. Hopefully the fries will be cooked through this time around.

Just ate a chicken cheese steak from here. It was solid. I should note that it wasn’t greasy at all, which a lot of people might consider a «con» for a cheese steak, but I’d consider this a plus. But you might want to ask for extra cheese or add some ketchup or something to moisten it up. I can’t speak for the regular cheese steak, as I don’t eat much red meat, but the ones they were making while I was there looked pretty good.
