This place is amazing! I ordered one of their vegetable korma dishes, and the husband got a Nepalese yellow lentil curry. We also shared garlic naan. The food was all fantastic, and came out spicy like we requested. The servers were attentive even though it was busy. If I lived nearby I would come here all the time!

Ordered daal makhani, malai kofta and butter naan. None was up to the expectations. Won’t recommend this place if you are looking for real Indian favors.

Who knew Rapid City would have such fresh and delicious vegetarian food? We had the Baigan Bharta(eggplant curry, $ 15) and veggie samosas($ 5 for two). They were huge portions, worth the money. Despite coming here in the middle of a holiday weekend dinner rush, we were seated quickly and had our food within half an hour.

My husband and I celebrated my birthday with dinner at Kathmandu. 3 weeks later, we are STILL talking about how delicious dinner was that night! Service was great, the restaurant was clean, and the food was incredible! The staff was incredibly friendly, and helpful. The atmosphere was perfect to have an intimate conversation over a bottle of wine.

While traveling through Rapid City, my husband and I ordered takeout from Kathmandu. I’ve been craving Indian food for months(and the offerings are VERY slim where we live). We had baingan bharta, lamb samosas, and rack of lamb, and they were everything I’d been dreaming of. It reminded me of my New York City days, when outstanding Indian food was available everywhere. Oh, how I miss that.

LOVE this food. The servers are all overly friendly, the atmosphere is delightful, and their vegetarian choices are impeccable. Eat there as often as my wife and I can.

Been coming to Rapid City since 1997(we live in Wyoming). Never knew this place existed until I became a Unilocaler. This has got to be one of the best places to eat in Rapid. The ambience of the place is simple but very calming and warm. I’m originally from southern California. I eat at Addie‘s in Redondo Beach when I visit my Dad. Addie‘s is off the chart good. However, this place is right up there. Service was excellent and Garlic Nan to die for. This is a must eat place.

Delicious food. Had to try the Chicken Lollipop: Amazing! I wanted to lick the plate. The service was pleasant and quick and the atmosphere was modern, comfortable and chill. Bonus: charging outlet by our booth and free wifi.

Man it’s wonderful having authentic Indian food even in a small city in South Dakota. Stopped by on my travels after hearing good things about this place, and I’m happy to say I was not disappointed. The menu was extensive with a good number of dishes I have never heard of(though that doesn’t have much weight), so it was delightful being able to try new things. The server was helpful, perhaps a bit timid, but was attentive and revisited my table many times. I may have gone overboard, but I ordered Tandoori Mushrooms with Himalayan Chai tea for an appetizer, Garlic Naan, and Mango Chicken(medium spice) for an entrée. The tea was similar to normal chai but with unique spices. I was slightly under impressed with the Tandoori Mushrooms as they had a little blandness aside from the mushroom flavor. The Garlic Naan was tasty, though I prefer slightly thicker/softer naan. It did flake more than I’d prefer, but again I see it more as preference. I was highly impressed with the Mango Chicken — it was flavorful and filling. I would definitely come back. Good food, decent prices, though I would like if they played any sort of music in the background as it was eerily quiet apart from other patrons during my visit.

Kathmandu Bistro’s lunch buffet = EVERYTHING! This is one of the first places my husband and I explored in this area and we were so pleased! The staff was warm and welcoming, the food is out of this world. I crave their Cheese naan. Everything we tasted was out of this world delicious, and it’s one of the reasons I enjoy living in this area. It’s definitely worthy of the review I read in the New York Times.

The service was wonderful, and the food tasted great. My only complaint was the lamb was a bit over done. The atmosphere was great, and I was able to have my glass of wine. Over all my company with me and I had a wonder time. I would venture in again.

Best Indian/Nepalese food in Rapid City; perhaps really the best option for those craving non-western ‘ethnic’ food in Rapid City(that would be a funny statement if it wasn’t true; Rapid City is a bit lacking in ethnic food relative to previous places I’ve lived). The lunch buffet is excellent, as are the entrée options for dinner. I particularly enjoy having my food with a delicious mango lassi.

Kathmandu — Rapid City South Dakota Quite a different option for Rapid City South Dakota. Traveling through with a couple of nights in RCSD, and chose to try it based on recommendations. We were not disappointed. This is not a tourist place in any manner shape or form. Filled with mostly locals or repeat diners. We had the mulligatawny soup with 3 spiced lentils. – very tasty. The Naan basket(plain, garlic and goat cheese) was fresh, however not memorable. Baigan Bhara Tandoori Eggplant was good. Butter chicken was tasty. Wine(Chardonnay) was decent and reasonably priced as well Interesting thing is that when they say, «5:00PM opening», they mean 5PM and not a minute earlier!!! We happened to be walking by and tried the door at 4:50PM and the man near the door pointed to the«Closed sign» and shook his head. So, off we walked to look at the President Statues. When we returned at 5, we sat at the outside tables for them to officially open. Once inside, we were treated very nicely. Service was good and as were the portions. Flavors, taste, quality of prep, presentation are definitely comparable to the fine Nepalese and excellent Indian restaurants we frequent in the NYC area and on Long Island. Would we go back? Definitely.

You would not think there was much competition in Rapid City, South Dakota for Nepalese food but that is not the case. Just down the road a few miles is Everest, another fine Nepalese restaurant. Both serve excellent food but preparation is a bit different between the two. While I have no objections to the Kathmandu, I found the food better over at the Everest. If you are going to be in Rapid City for just a night or two, I would recommend the Everest but if you are here a week or more, definitely try both.

Coming from Washington state, I was surprised to find such a delicious Indian/Nepalese restaurant. Even my friend who is Punjabi liked this place. Huge portions, quick and friendly service as well. The chai was lacking but I am kind of a snob about my chai. Great place, a little spendy but definitely worth it. Best place I’ve eaten at since I moved to Rapid City.

This is the best Indian food anywhere. My BF agrees. It was soooo delicious. At first, we were gonna order from the menu but decided that the buffet was the thing to do. Plus we get to taste a lot more of their dishes. I’ll say now that aside from the butter chicken, chicken tandoori and mango lassi, I’ve forgotten all the other names. But each n every dish was superb tasting and made with heart and tradition. Our server, who is probably one of the owners, was very kind. We were so stuffed upon leaving but sad also, because this place is too far away from Cali. It has got to be one of the best Indian restaurants in the country.

Tried to go to Everest and it was full. Owner sent us to this, his other restaurant, with a 10% discount. It was just a short drive away. We were in town from Chicago for my 40th high school reunion. We did not have Nepalese/Indian food in Rapid back then; not even Indian food. We have been to many Indian places in Chicago and this was as good as any and better than most. Sure hope they are still in business when we come back for my 50th reunion in 10 years.

My favourite dishes on the menu are their tandoori chicken & butter chicken, but EVERY dish I have sampled was absolutely incredible. Their prices are affordable, service is great, owners are very nice, and the atmosphere is very calm and inviting. We always take out-of-towners here!

On a three-week road trip from North Carolina out west, this was the best meal we had. After a stretch of lackluster meals(we must not have been doing our homework) we picked Kathmandu based on glowing review. I’m so glad we did. My husband had a lamb dish – can’t remember the name, but it was very good. We ordered what I believe was the house naan, which features coconut. It was incredible. I had the mixed grill, and I couldn’t believe the amount of food that came out and how delicious it all was. If we had a restaurant like this in our hometown I would be a very happy person.

Outstanding lunch buffet $ 11 – 12, all you can eat and delicious. Excellent service, the staff is kind and attentive. The food comes out hot and fresh, excellent curries and vegetables are great. The mint chutney and onion chutney are excellent dips. Strong flavors, you’ll smell like curry everywhere you go!

Great serving sizes for the price! Tasty food that is safe for people with food allergies(like myself). My dad doesn’t like curry and was able to find something he liked on the menu(tandori chicken tikka). The menu online and the one in the store don’t match right now — I went in wanting an alligator dish that wasn’t available. :(But what I got instead was good.

This is not bad place to go for lunch. Solid buffet with a variety of different dishes. Not the best Nepalese/Indian I’ve ever had, but certainly the best in the area. Best dish to get: Chicken tikka masala, for sure!

We went in with limited expectations and left having had one of the best Indian/Nepalese meals of our lives! I’m no stranger to Indian food, having lived and traveled to communities with a large South Asian presence for the last 2 decades. Kathmandu’s is the real deal – the food is excellent, high quality, and served in sufficiently large portions. 2 dishes are adequate; 3 dishes and naan will stuff a couple. You will want to order extra naan just to sop up the remaining Butter Chicken sauce. Prices are fair for what you get. Waitstaff and owner were very personable, and the outside area is dog-friendly. I hope people give this place a chance in an area where there are many ‘safe’ options. Try it – you won’t be disappointed. Can’t wait to return.
