Use to go to this place many times in the Havenpast. Tonight was my first night back here and I was surprised that it was under new management. We still ate and the food wasn’t as great as I remember it was very bland and the server was trying to be nice but came across and alittle irritating and the cups looked dirty as well as the plates. Would not go back at all

Food was hot and fresh! Always more than our family can eat, but we love leftover Chinese! Their buffet is delicious and fresh. The hostess/owner was very polite and helpful! This is now my #1 choice in our area for Chinese food!

Visiting Rapid City from Hawaii and always looking for a good meal. My wife and I were told by a few people that China Luck had good Chinese food. We went in and had some of the best food I have had in a long time. After our meal we had a chance to visit with the family who run the place. Nicest people! We will be back in there any time we are in Rapid City. Thanks for the great food, Jacob! Aloha

I wrote a review on here about how China Luck changed up the owners and menu and I didn’t like anything except 3 things on their buffet. Well me and my husband went back cause my sister in law wanted to try the new food there, we were a little iffy but agreed. We did the buffet like we normally do and I will admit it, this time around the food was pretty good. I went up 3 times versus the 1 time I went up last time, now is there somethings I still don’t like? Yes. Is there somethings that are good? Yes. The service was better this time around and when we would ask if they could put more of a specific food on the buffet they would but also bring a small plate to our table, I do have to admit that was really nice.

The owner is very friendly, atmosphere is great, and food is delicious! I urge you to try their green tea & would be lying if I said their sesame chicken wasn’t the best I have ever tasted.

This is a great Chinese restaurant in Rapid City. I’ve been there numerous times, and the food and service are always excellent. I’m a big fan of Chinese-Korean food, and China Luck has that stuff covered. Look for it on the blue paper menu. The jia jiang mien(black bean noodles) is delicious, as is the Chow ma mien, or jampong(spicy seafood noodle soup) is also excellent. I’ve also had their Kang pong gi(Mandarin chicken on the menu), and it is to die for. Sweet, a little spicy, and fantastic over white rice. The ma po tofu is spicy and flavorful, and also delicious over some white rice. The pan fried dumplings are also very good, and they were a hit with my kids. China Luck’s other offerings(from the regular menu) are also excellent. The walnut shrimp is seriously delicious, and I like the Mongolian beef. I have also used China Luck to cater lunches. The owner, John, personally delivered my order and set up the food. Service and the food were impeccable. If you have an event that you want catered, China Luck can handle it. I have done events that needed to feed 65 to 70 people, and they handled it no problem. Highly recommended.

I’m currently traveling from the east to the west coast and I’ve tried a lot of different Chinese foods. This food in comparison to everywhere else is actually pretty decent. It’s not true Chinese food, but Americanized Chinese food. But it’s still good! Everything had flavor, and if it had dried chilies then yes it was actually spicy! The service was wonderful, both the manager and waitress were attentive and a lil talkative but thats a lot better than being ignored. They do have a Korean menu if you’re interested. Overall large portions, great price and yummy food. Highly recommended.

Not good. Chicken is dark meat and had a funny taste. Soup was insipid. Salty but tasteless. Fried food. Not clean tasting

By far the best Chinese food in Rapid City. The owner went out of his way to educate my girlfriend and I on gluten free options available. The waiter was excellent and went the extra mile. I highly recommend this place.

Very unlikely location. End of a strip mall with windows covered in Asian beer posters. Were it not for Unilocal reviews, this would not have been a restaurant I would have tried with the family. Inside, it was a nice, understated but comfortable restaurant. Tastefully decorated, not done up with cheesy waving cats and large murals. We were hoping to try the buffet, but were informed that they didn’t have it tonight, so we stayed and ordered off the regular menu. Pricing was fairly typical, in the $ 10 – 15 range. Portion sizes were comically large. The food was quite tasty. My wife ordered Szechuan chicken with no spice and I ordered Szechuan beef the regular way. They mixed them up, so I enjoyed some spicy Szechuan chicken while my wife had some non-spicy Szechuan beef. Hot and Sour soup is my standby for Chinese. While the soup here was neither hot nor spicy, it did resemble a very tasty beef broth with tofu strips, so I went with it. My daughters had sweet & sour chicken and triple seafood delight. They both enjoyed them thoroughly. The real surprise was the crab rangoon that came with our meals. The filling was very different than the normal ricotta-like substance. This was something closer to a deviled egg filling. It was rich and delicious. I could have skipped the entrée and eaten a dozen of those instead! Final verdict — not as amazing for us as other Unilocal reviews suggested, but it was a reasonable value and we were happy with it. China Luck doesn’t go on our must-do-again list, but we don’t regret the choice for this visit.

Moving here from the Northeast and having a wife from China it has been hard to find good Chinese food but China Luck is by far our favorite restaurant for the actual taste of their Chinese food.

China Luck is owned by the former co-owner of Golden Phoenix which is around the corner. The food and menu are similar since the chef at China Luck also came from Golden Phoenix which makes China Luck as a good alternative or vice versa if either one is crowded. The food at China Luck is good and generous in portion. We ordered off the menu for dinner, but they do offer lunch buffets at a reasonable fixed price. Good friendly wait staff and manager. If you are in the Rapid Falls area, China Luck would be a good choice to try for Chinese food.

Very friendly staff. Possibly best Chinese I’ve eaten. We had it delivered to the Big Sky Motel, which I highly recommend, made for a perfect evening.

Delicious fresh food with a nice buffet, including RICE noodles(as well as wheat noodles). Includes sushi, and desserts! Excellent service, attentive and friendly staff. The real authentic cuisine, a great find for under $ 20 for TWO including drinks. Great for families and intimate conversation. Chefs spent years perfecting cooking skills over at Golden Phoenix, making this place more affordable. I highly recommend China luck conveniently located across from Baken Park.

I have to admit. The food was pretty good for what I was expecting I would get in Rapid City. I don’t exactly remember what we ordered, but I know it was a fish dish and a meat dish. Both very good, very big, and very cheap. My dad was commenting that he could not possibly get so much for so little back in LA where Chinese food rules. However, the only thing I have to complain about is the same thing others would rave about. That is, the manager in charge at the cash register. For some reason, he simply chose to ignore us. Other than asking us what we wanted to drink and giving us some more rice at one point, he completely gave us the cold shoulder the entire time. I watched carefully as he greeted every other guest coming through the door with a hearty dose of conversation and made his way to every other table in the room. Upon coming to our table, it was an immediate SKIP(other than the time we basically grabbed him to give us more rice). And boy, he could go into some excruciating detail when talking to others. About their kids’ baseball game? About their kids’ school? And his whole life story growing up in South Dakota, moving out, then coming back in? I found it utterly baffling that he could be so friendly to everyone else and so UNfriendly to us. Not like we were dressed worse than everyone. We did speak Chinese amongst ourselves. But that’s what you would expect in a Chinese restaurant, no? Did he feel slighted by the fact that there was actually a Chinese customer in his Chinese restaurant speaking Chinese? Weird, no doubt… and left a very BAD taste in the mouth afterward.

The manager is super nice and very talkative. I also love how they sell Bundaberg Ginger Beer! My favorite drink ever! The food here was alright. The mushu beef and duck were very salty… But the house wonton soup was very tasty, aside from the frozen seafood. Overall I’d say this place is decent enough if you are craving for some Chinese food.

It’s our first time here in SD. Right away wife was craving Chinese food. We went here because of the great reviews here. We got the egg rolls, chicken lo mein, and sweet & sour shrimp. Egg rolls were really good! The stuffing was tasty and the wrapper was not bland. We were really surprised how good that was. Maybe it had a good amount of MSG? That’s why it’s so good? Hehe. The other entrees was a little disappointing considering all the good reviews here. The chicken lo mein was salty and the sweet & sour was more on the sweet side than the sour. Price is good and comparable to other Chinese restaurants not in SD. Sorry only 3 stars for me.
