I’ve had many bad experiences in restaurants in the past, but never one so bad that it compelled me to finally make a Unilocal account. That was until I had dinner with my family in Mille Fleurs Restaurant. To start my experience, it took the staff over 10 minutes to prepare a table for my family and dogs to sit. What they had on the table was just a kerosene candle, a flower, and salt and pepper. Something that should have taken only two minutes at most, especially considering the table was all ready bare with no need to clear dishes from previous patrons. Finally, we can sit in their patio and their wait staff asks for our preference of water. We ask for non-iced water, but apparently in their terms it means«Bring out the most expensive bottle of water($ 7.50 each for your record)» As you can imagine, with a table of four, water needs to be replenished often, which leads to more bottles of water being open. But that was probably the most enjoyable experience during my visit in this restaurant. We order appetizers and they come around 20 minutes after we ordered, which is fairly standard. However the food was nothing to be admired of, especially considering they’re charging over $ 20 for an appetizer. Then comes a long wait for our entrees to come. We got bored waiting for our small portioned entrees to arrive, so we started keeping time. The table figured it was around 50(give or take) minutes before the food was finally ready to eat. Immediately there was a problem. A family member on the table ordered the rabbit, which was incredibly dry and overcooked. The waitress came over and took the plate back, however we declined asking for another dish as we didn’t want to wait another 50 minutes on the off chance the food might actually be edible. When the rest of the family finished eating, the waitress tried to make a point how the other rabbit on the table was excellent, while the plate that was sent back was not. Do the waiters and waitresses here not take the word for granted, even after demonstrating how overcooked the rabbit was? It was a mockery of us! They made it a point to come back for a total of three times to try and offer him another dish, but after we made it apparent that we would not like another entrée, almost all service stopped. No wine was poured, and our table was viewed as an outcast, only coming by to clear the other plates and deliver the bill. Once we finally were relaxed, we opened up the bill to find they had the audacity to charge us for the returned rabbit! Almost immediately after viewing our facial expressions, the waitress came and took it. I guarantee this was not a simple mistake, and they intentionally left it on, thinking we weren’t going to look. Even a simple cash register at a fast food joint would never make that mistake. This should never have happened, especially in this restaurant. I thought long and hard about the tip. I was tempting in leaving three cents. Each cent representing when a waiter or waitress tried to make us order another entrée. However, I have more respect for myself than to fall to the low level of this restaurant, and leave a tip like that. Bottom line — If you like a pretentious wait staff and high priced foods, this is the place for you.

This is one of our Favorite restorations in San Diego. The staff is great and the food is even better. Every meal we’ve had here is fantastic and the tasting menu never disappoints. The only negative I would raise is the décor. It’ really in need of a remodel and update but as long as the food and service stays top notch we’ll keep coming back.

This was the worst service i have ever had in a supposed fine dining restaurant. It was an hour wait for our meal .our cocktails were poured short and there was no soap in the bathroom? And since i had the pleasure of sharing the bathroom with a chef made me all the more questionable about the establishment. Dont waist your time. burger King is a better meal.

If not the best restaurant in the San Diego area, Mille Fleur is certainly in the top three. Brian Malarkey can keep cranking out loud and trendy restaurants, but there is no substitute for fantastic, attentive service, which never goes out of style. Mille Fleur keeps doing what it does best, serving arguably the finest and freshest menu of over-the-top standards with a calm atmosphere and beautiful Rancho Santa Fe setting. The wine list is good– not great, with the usual selections of wines from around the world but I think the selection of French lacks depth, particularly from the northern and southern Rhone regions. I cannot fault them on their selection of Bordeaux especially the first growths, but from there, the list begins to disappoint the French oenophile. We brought a magnum of Côte Rotie and purchased a Henschke Shiraz blend from Barossa Valley. $ 30 corkage. In our party of 8, we enjoyed the duck breast with Fois Gras, Dover sole, Filet Mignon, and Rack of lamb, each with its own delicious side dish included. I’m not a fan of the chains that force you to overeat and overspend with their ala carte family-style sides. The portioning was perfect here and not over priced. The service was over the top and cannot say enough about the care and attentiveness my party received.

We came here to celebrate our engagement. It was the perfect place. It is very romantic and intimate. The service is great. Concerning the food, I had the foie gras as an appetizer. It was the best foie gras I’ve ever had. Then I had the veal as my entrée. It was also incredibly good. The only downside is the price. It’s very expensive for very small portions but I guess it’s high quality food and you pay for the ambiance. I highly recommend this place for a celebration or a special occasion.

Just had a great late night lamb burger in the bar and it was very good. More importantly the staff was very accommodating. Laura was working behind the bar but she came out to make sure we had a quiet table and quickly took our drink and food orders, very sweet and friendly. Hope to come back next time I’m in the area to try the dining room!

Had very high hopes for this place. Went here for restaurant week and sadly it didn’t live up to the high standards I had set in place. Thank goodness I came here for restaurant week because if I came here with their regular pricing, I’d be super upset in the quality of their food. I had their lobster bisque and although it was pretty good. Unfortunately it was served lukewarm and there were very stingy on the amount of shrimp. There were very generous on the cauliflower though. My main was the Trio of Duck which consisted of a not so medium rare breast, half a leg, and tiny foie gras. Since I ordered the same dish as my friend, I noticed hers had the drumstick bone and mine did not. Clearly they served half the meat on one plate and the other half on mine. That’s rather sad on both presentation and quantity. The foie gras was very small and not noticeably visible at first glance. My dessert was a coconut banana ice cream crêpe. That was fine, no complaints there. For a $$$$ establishment and a French greeter, I had expected big things for this place. Sadly it could have been much better. Probably won’t be a returning customer here. I like spending money on good food but spending a lot of money on mediorce food I cannot do.

My husband & I came here for dinner on the last night of Restaurant week. I had sent a message via Open Table that we recently got married & wanted a nice table. We were very pleased that they honored our request. I had noticed on-line that one of the appetizers on the three-prixe menu was the Smoked Whitefish plate. Unfortunately, they had run out & replaced it with the Smoked Salmon & Eel plate. However, our server was Joshua, & he gave a high recommendation. I am so glad I went ahead with the change. It was plated so beautifully, as if Picasso woke up from his sleep & dreamed up a perfect color palate. The taste was absolutely divine, and I would return simply for that dish alone. My husband had the Chino Farm Vegetable Salad which was fresh and adorned with figs etc. He went for the Cioppino, while my hungry self went with the Hangar Steak. For dessert, I fell in love with the Coconut Crêpe that was drizzled in chocolate, pieces of pineapple and other fruit, while he had the Three Citrus Gratin. I enjoyed the wine pairings(Chablis and the Priorat), and he had a German beer. I had read on the website that no kids were allowed, but at dinner, I saw a father and his son. There was a couple next to us who were return patrons, as we saw another server go above and beyond for them in service. Don’t forget to bring enough cash to tip the coat check, in case you come at winter :) Please thank the nice young lady at the front for me. The Maitre D has a distant resemblance to Tori Amos, like a 15th cousin. I really appreciated a departure from the usual cravings, and a winding road visit to a sweet favorite new spot. I plan to book another visit soon for a special occasion.

My wife and I ate here during restaurant week. I’ll get the one negative of the way first. The service, while friendly, was very slow. It took no less than 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us after we were first sat down, and things didn’t go much faster throughout our dinner. That said, the ambiance was romantic, the food was very good and the wait staff and knowledgeable. I especially enjoyed the white fish appetizer and duck entrée from the RW menu. As good as the food is here, the slow service detracted from what otherwise was a good dining experience. I’m sure I’ll give them another try, and hope it goes a bit better next time.

#SDRW Service is first rate here. They’ll take your coat, make sure you have a black napkin if you are dressed in black, your water glass will never be less than half full. They know what they are doing and it isn’t stuffy at all. The whitefish appetizer is so amazing. Did not know whitefish was particularly flavorful. Cioppino looked dull but was full of huge chunks of scallops, clams, all the things. Yumm Everyone gets tired of crème brûlée but thats because they haven’t had it done right. Get it. You can thank me later xo

Came here during restaurant week for my company’s outing on a Friday lunch. I had the butternut squash soup for appetizer, beef stew for entrée, and the apple custard for dessert. The soup was probably the simplest dish but also my favorite out of all. The beef was a little old and could be more chewy but the flavors were there. The apple custard was A-OK, a little on the sweeter side but the vanilla ice cream that came with it was what stood out the most. All in all, service was nice and prompt, I had a really pleasant dinning experience.

Two words: Subpar. Stuffy! Our server and wanna-be sommelier(if he was even qualified with such honor) were both condescending and the furthest from helpful. We have eaten at restaurants all over the world from Gordon Ramsay’s first michelin star restaurant in London to family owned and run restaurants throughout the world and it’s unfortunate that Mille Fleurs was such a disappointment. My husband’s venison wasn’t cooked properly and it was visibly apparent. We tried to flag down our server and asked the busboy to get him for us and we were given a snooty response when sending it back. The whole idea of our experience irks me. $ 500 later and all we were left with was a sour taste in our mouths from the awful service. We would have much rather sat at the bar and eaten with the female bartender. She was the best thing about this place. She was knowledgeable, helpful, and personable! Stick to the bar or even better– go elsewhere!

Mille Fleurs is full of class and lovely, lovely food. Relaxed atmosphere with touches of elegance from the wine and beer list to the desserts and excellent service. I always treasure a lunch or dinner here for a special occasion.

If I could give zero stars I would. Smells inside, weak drinks, awful management, servers yelling at bussers, unorganized and the owner is rude! All he cares about is money. Don’t support this kind of behavior! Terrible place. I’ve been there a handful of times. They also have no backbone for their employees. The patio is hot. I can’t say anything good.

We held a team dinner here and unfortunately, it just did not live up to the hype. Our group had 12 people and we ended up being seated upstairs in this tiny, older looking space. I preordered some appetizers and none of it was that impressive. The food was not memorable as well. Unfortunately, we’ll cross this off our list for corporate dinners going forward.

Came here during SDRW a few months ago and it was really good. The waiters are very professional and courteous. The roasted pepper soup was the best soup I’ve ever had. The only complaint I have is that their medium rare is more on the rare side. Meat came out bloody red and not just pink. They refired it without saying a word and it came out perfectly.

I went here last week for lunch and it was fantastic! I was in France over the winter, and eating here was if I was transported back to France. I ordered the white asparagus soup along with the lobster salad and the flavors were phenomenal. The soup was delicate, but full of flavor and the salad was so refreshing. Their signature cocktails are also great… And strong… Two drinks should do the trick… I would eat here every day if I could. I also ordered the crème brûlée for dessert… No complaints there! The service was also top notch. I highly recommend taking your date here. She will be completely impressed. Super intimate and gorgeous courtyard.
