My first experience with Shuckers was a joke! Service was beyond slow… food was just ok… most of it was cold. Our server completely deserted us for a table of 20. We had to get the bus boys to bring cocktail sauce and more water. She never apologized and acted as though we were a «bother» to her. Awful experience! The Manager was trying to help us with dessert orders, but in the end she said, «This is ridiculous!» and walked off for good. Never opted to give us anything complementary. Totally not acceptable! The service ruined our evening! If you do happen to try this restaurant, the hush puppies and clam chowder are delicious… do not recommend the trout… I only tasted the bread mixture on top. UGH!

Longest wait for food ever… 2.5 hours from when we sat down. Food came out cold. Saw manager once when they put fully burned hush puppies on table like it was ok. Horrible experience and will not come back.

Update to the review I posted below. Shuckers took our experience and concerns very seriously! The general manager, owner and special events coordinator contacted us. They catered an office lunch for us to show us their apologies. We are open to trying them again. Didn’t post 5 stars since we haven’t had an event there yet but the lunch they brought was delicious! Bacon wrapped oyster and chicken dish were terrific! Original post … We booked a special event for our office party. Took over an hour for salads to come out. We didn’t get the dinners until an 1 hour and 48 minutes after our arrival. Plus the crab cakes entrée was cold. They appear to be able to handle large parties and special events but the reality does not match the promise!

Best place I’ve been so far downtown. The waitress was very nice, and the atmosphere was great. LOVED the lighting, it’s just bright enough but dark enough. We went on a Tuesday to celebrate, and there weren’t many people in there but that just made it a more quiet and relaxing experience.(Not that it wouldn’t be if more people were there) we got shrimp cocktail to start, yum! Drink specials were great, I had a patron margarita for $ 6 and he had a draft for $ 2. I got the scallops and a side of rice, it was literally the best. He had the catch of the day, mahi mahi and YUMMY. It was all cooked so well. And you get free hush puppies, how could you not love this place?!

Oysters! Yay! I came here for lunch with a friend and we shared the Oysters Rockefeller and a half a dozen raw oysters. The order also came with hush puppies. Pretty delicious, and surprisingly filling, as we didn’t order much. I really enjoyed it and so did she. The service was… strange. Our server forgot to bring us small plates and tried to take away the oysters before we were finished eating them! There were a few other small issues, but easily overlooked. Everything was just a little«off» with the service, but it didn’t ruin our experience.

Shuckers is unique in favor, and has a relaxing and beautiful atmosphere. The food, we have had various sea food dishes and they all taste unique and very good. They never fail to provide great tasting perfectly cooked food. The atmosphere is another great attribute, the décor and the staff are very nice. Overall I can’t find a place on Glenwood that delivers all that Shuckers does.

Wow cool, so I came here for my 21st birthday. Server took forever and only checked on us once or twice. Drinks were empty for the whole meal. Also charged extra and when we told her recieved no apology. Mind you there was only one other table. Did not seem to care about us at all. Pasta was way over cooked. Mind you, I’m a server so I am pretty tolerant of a lot of things. Definitely won’t be coming back. Make sure you don’t get Cynthia !!!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Shuckers last night, and we were both blown away by the elegant, comfy-ness of the atmosphere, amazing food and down-to-earth service. Tuesday’s have margarita specials which were delicious, we had fried asparagus and spinach artichoke dip for appetizers along with their complementary hush puppies, hamburger and crab cakes for our main entrees, and key lime pie for dessert. We will definitely be going back and bringing friends!

I was recommended this spot by a coworker and so I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. The location is right in the middle of buzzing glenwood south. The space is beautiful, very swanky: somewhere i’d imagine you’d want to go for a 1st date or a nice occasion. We were seated promptly and started with the chargrilled oysters, which were also recommended to me. These are very good, and although a bit pricey, I think they’re worth it. I got the seafood pasta, which was alright. Not the best I’ve had. I think I prefer the version at full moon oyster bar better. Boyfriend got crab legs which were expensive for the amount you get, but good nonetheless. I brought the review down another star because our server wasn’t very helpful. She didn’t seem to know the menu, so it was a little awkward when we asked her to clarify something and she had to go back and check, or responded with an «umm». We were also seated in the corner of the restaurant so I guess she forgot about us a lot of the time, because it took awhile for us to get the check. I think the oysters were good, but you get a much better deal at full moon I think. But this place has that upscale ambiance(which is a complete contrast to full moon’s loud, very casual setting) that you might prefer.

I went to Shuckers for the first time recently. I love seafood and oyster bars so was excited to try this place. I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to try the oysters, but did try some other seafood. The mahi stuffed with crabmeat was a little dry but very good. I think the crabcakes would be delicious based on the stuffing. I also tried the scallop entrée, which were cooked perfectly and had a great marinade on them. The meal comes with hushpuppies for the table. Their hushpuppies were a little disappointing, but you can’t complain about free! Overall, I liked Shuckers but gave them 3 stars because while it was good, it did not blow me away. I thought service was a little slow as well, especially given how empty it was. The prices for seafood were very reasonable, even the lobster tails. I would definitely come back and would like to try the oysters next time.

I visited Shuckers on Glenwood South this week for a friend’s birthday. I had heard good things about this place from friends who had dined at the Wake Forest location. When I walked inside, I was shocked at how big this place was — a plus since we were with a big group. I ordered a small portion of the fresh scallops(small = 1 skewer of 4 scallops) and a loaded baked potato for my entrée. It was all the perfect temperature and delicious, and the portions were just right for dinner. I especially loved the complementary hushpuppies while we waiting for our entrees. They do «priority seating» via OpenTable, which worked well for us during the week. Not sure if it is as beneficial on busy weekend nights. All in all, a positive experience!

We came here for restaurant week and it was such a good deal for the price. It came with an appetizer, soup or salad, entrée with a side and dessert! I’m stuffed as I write this review and I have leftovers to last for days! Appetizers: I got the bacon scallops which were huge! The bacon kind of overpowered the scallops and some of them were like double wrapped with bacon which made it super bacon-y. My friend hated them tho but she doesn’t like seafood. She said it was like eating a chunk of fat. The ahi tuna was really good tho. I’d get that next time I came back. I also got to try the Rockefeller oysters which were alright. I prefer raw oysters. I got the sea chowder which was delicious. I love soup! It came with shrimp and Who knows what other seafood. The restaurant was a bit dim so I couldn’t really see what else was in it. Haha Entrees: I got the the stuffed mahi which was alright. Kind of disappointing as that’s one of their signature dishes but I’m glad I tried it. It was different. The fish was a bit dry but mixed with the crab cake made it better. There was also a 5oz filet and crab legs which looked good. The crab was fresh. My friend ordered the filet medium rare but it came out more of a medium well. I guess you can’t expect too much since they’re known for their seafood. It was actually a really flavorful steak but I’m sure it would have been better actually cooked medium rare. The ribs looked really good and my friend almost finished her whole plate! Finger licking good. seriously. Desserts: key lime pie was really lime-y. It reminded me of a cheesecake type texture. Some of my friends loved it and some thought it had too much lime in it. I got the brownie with ice cream on it and I finished all of it even tho I was stuffed! Can’t let good dessert go to waste! My other friend got the bread pudding not on the restaurant week menu but she said it was orgasmic. Overall this place is nice for a date night or a girls outing. It looked like they had a pretty good happy hour so I might come back to check that out. I do like how they have call ahead seating. It did start to get kind of busy around 7:30ish. It was nice how the manager came by to check on us too. She even gave us some coupons for free appetizers. She probably knew I was going to write this Unilocal review with all the picture taking I was doing! Hahha. So I’ll be back for that. And their happy hour!

Walking down Glenwood Ave Saturday afternoon we noticed a sign for Happy Hour and thought why not. We sat at the bar to enjoy their specials and ordered a glass of their white($ 5) and red Sangria($ 4). The bartender brought us out some complementary hush puppies that were solid. A dozen raw oysters will set you back a measly $ 9 bucks during HH and were large and delicious. I have all intentions of returning to try the Big SOBAKA Steampot that is hard to find in the Triangle. Great space, fresh seafood, good specials, and excellent service will have me coming back for more. Happy Hour Specials are daily from 2−6pm and 9pm-close

Fri night out w/friends. Started off with some drinks. I had the beers(White Street & Big Boss). My friends had the cocktails.(dirty martinis & Jameson whiskey w/ginger ale). We snacked on hush puppies then selected our entrees. I went with the Honey-Chipotle Pecan Crusted Trout. It was delicious. One friend got the Lobster Ravioli & gave it a thumbs up. The other friend got the Ahi Tuna and liked it. Key Lime Pie was our dessert & a lovely ending to our evening. This place is pretty spacious with a large bar at center of dining room. It looks very inviting. Btw, there is seating outside too on a good-sized patio. We opted for indoor seating(booth) as it was a very warm summer day. Ambiance is nice. –Dimly lit, sophisticated & comfortable. Staff is very attentive, helpful & friendly. This being my first time at Shuckers I was very pleased.

My husband and I drove from Winston-Salem to Raleigh specifically to eat dinner here last Friday, and I must say, the drive was well worth it! This is an «upscale» seafood restaurant in terms of décor/ambience, and the waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. This location is downtown-ish(?) so we had to park in a nearby parking garage for $ 3.00, but if you get lucky there is on-street parking in the surrounding area. They have some fun cocktails. I ordered the Mother Shucker Margarita, a «New Old» Bloody Mary, a Mojo-hito, and an Absolutely Elderflower martini(mostly because I was curious about elderflowers, and I wasn’t driving). The drinks, as one would expect, were pricey — in the $ 8.00 to $ 10.00 range — and I’m pretty sure despite all that alcohol, I never got tipsy, but again, I wasn’t driving. Because my husband hates seafood(he took me here to indulge my seafood cravings ’cause he loves me, awww!), we ordered a special pulled pork nachos which contained zero creatures from the sea. The chips tasted homemade and were fabulous, and even though the menu description indicated Velveeta was involved here, I would order this dish again in a heartbeat. It was sooooo good! I decided to forgo any main entrée for dinner, and instead opted for a gluttonous array of appetizer/raw bar selections. This included a «half-baked sampler»(3 kinds of oysters each for a total of 9); I picked the Heritage(bacon, garlic, seasoned butter and Asiago cheese), Diablo(smoked Gouda with jalepeños, red peppers, and bacon with a pinch of cayenne), and Hurricane(spinach and artichoke in a garlic cream sauce). All three selections were delicious, but the Diablo was my favorite. And then, because I drove all this way for seafood, I ordered 6 oysters on the half shell, raw. The oysters were all of good size and served icy cold with cocktail sauce and crackers. I finished up with a ½ pound of steamed Alaskan snow crab legs, and this was worth the work and the mess. My husband had some chicken strip basket for dinner. Whatever. Oh, and before I forget, the complimentary hush puppies are out of this world and simply addictive! I was concerned that the restaurant wasn’t all that crowded for a Friday night, but we were there kind of early(about 6:00pm) and it was Father’s Day weekend so maybe people were out of town. I hope this location is a success(it’s the second Shucker’s, the original is in Wake Forest). I will definitely return!!!

Went there on a Sunday for the 9pm to close Happy Hour. Closes at ten. But in that hour we enjoyed the beer specials, the mussels for $ 4 and the .75 cents a piece oysters. The oysters were fresh and can be ordered raw or steamed. see pic.

Had a fantastic meal during Triangle restaurant week! This was my first time at Shuckers and they have left a good impression on me, I will come back again. For Triangle restaurant week they had a special of three courses for $ 30. I chose the following: Oyster Rockefeller, Stuffed Mahi(with jumbo lump crab cake) and Strawberry shortcake. Everything was so amazing and the portions were generous, especially those deserts which I worked very hard to try to finish. I thought the oysters were perfect, I liked how they were topped with cheese and other goodies and since the oysters were big, I did not feel that they were hidden from the dish. However, my boyfriend got distracted by the toppings and I am not sure if he was able to appreciate the oyster as much as I did. He said it reminded him of some kind of Italian pasta dish due to the combo of ingredients. I had a taste of his main course which was the Shrimp and Grits and it was good but very rich and creamy. I could not have eaten a whole plate of this as it would have been too heavy for me on a night of three courses. I am glad I went with the Mahi, although I had trouble finishing my plate. I tried the Shuckers Original Brownie and kept switching back and forth between it and the strawberry shortcake. Both were superb and we had such large portions, sharing was not an issue. As for the service, it was excellent! It was early on a Tuesday so they were not very busy, but wow, that did not damper their enthusiasm. Gosh, I cannot remember the last time I have had such good service.

Some friends came to town and we ended up eating dinner at Shuckers on Glenwood South. It was a great experience! When you walk in it is very open and spacious — the bar is set up in a great spot in-case there is a long wait time, you can just grab a drink and hang out. We grabbed a drink and talked by the bar until our table was ready. We had a rather large crowd but they were very accommodating to our needs! They promptly asked us if we needed refills on our beverages and brought us these amazing hush puppy balls! I ordered the Strawberry salad to start with… WOW! It was so lite and fresh it was simply delicious! I will say, for it to be the side salad size, it was rather large! I wonder how big the strawberry salad is as the meal?! I got the pork tenderloin for my main course — it was juicy and flavorful! I always worry about ordering pork because most people over-cook it — but not Shuckers! I will say for my taste it had a lot of capers so if you are ordering this you might want to say lite capers… Overall everything was great! Large beers at the bar, great food and service at the table and sweet atmosphere! 4 out of 5, good job!

We really enjoyed Shuckers Oyster Bar & Grill. First, the bar is very comfortable. We typically dine at the bar because we love talking to the bartenders and we’ve sat on some horrible barstools at cluttered bars. At Shuckers the bar is wide open and set up for dining. And the bar stools may be the most comfortable bar stools we’ve ever sat on. The bartender(I wish we got his name) put a basket of hushpuppies in front of us, told us about a draft beer special and encouraged us to sample several of the local beers on tap before choosing. We started with the crab dip. Served with wedges of fried pita bread, it was full of flavor and huge lumps of crab. We followed with Oysters Rockefeller, which were cooked to perfection with the right stuffing to oyster ratio. Dinner was a small order of shrimp & grits. I like that Shuckers gives you the option to order small or large portions of entrees, making it easier to taste your way around the menu. The small portion was generous. The shrimp, Andouille sausage and spicy tasso sauce is served over grits cakes. This was a first for me and I liked it, the cake absorbed the sauce and was full of flavor. My husband had the Steakhouse Po-Boy. Tender steak was piled high on a light French baguette that we love. Insider tip: the bartender recommended that next time we try anything with the Diablo sauce(currently served on a burger and oysters). Made of smoked Gouda, jalapenos, red peppers, bacon and cayenne, he said it’s the staff’s favorite. They ladle it on everything they order. Overall, we highly recommend Shuckers, it exceeded our expectations, the service was fantastic and the food delicious.

We are huge fans of the Wake Forest location, so armed with a Dealsaver, we were extra happy to check out this one on a recent Sunday afternoon. Walked in and stood at the hostess stand for awhile before anyone took notice of us. Were led to a booth and given shiny new menus. I started with a fabulous Bellini-type Martini. Awesome! So peachy and ice cold. Perfect! About the time we were thinking we were sadly not going to get any hushpuppies, we were finally brought some. They were, as always, very tasty and served with real butter. Husband had a large fried shrimp, scallops and flounder with fries and slaw. This was perfectly executed and made him quite happy. I did the Seafood Pasta, and made the terrible mistake of asking them to kick it up. This was stupid, as I had never had it before. Might have already been spicy. All I can say is they most definitely did what I requested. My fault. It hurt. Ended up taking most of it home to cool it off.(got two more meals out of it, adding fresh spinach and light sour cream to cool it off, and it was still spicy as heck). This dish is also on the light side where seafood is concerned. Mussels were teeny tiny inside those shells. There were a few shrimp and one scallop that had been cut in half.(perfectly cooked though). Service was definitely on the slow side, especially Husband’s tea refills. They were definitely trying though, and we could very much tell they cared. Definitely a great new addition to Glenwood South! I will just order differently next time.
