I love the space! Beautifully painted blue-greenish walls, and very clean organized shelves with everything displayed perfectly. Very easy to see and navigate what’s around the store. It has a very chic, modern feel to it. I love the big open windows at the front that let the light into the store as well. The whole place is very inviting and upon walking by for the first time I just had to pop inside. I’ve been here twice, once on my own and once for a Unilocal Shops Local event and I’ve enjoyed my experience both times. Kindred features local artists and designers and is very affordable. I loved the graphic tees, and the jewelry myself. I saw so many cool necklaces and earrings. They also have great handbags and scarves, which you can never have enough of! You can find very unique gift items, and something to please everyone! Definitely stop in and visit Kindred, you won’t be sorry!

Not content with transforming the Triangle’s art show scene, designer Michelle Smith decided to work her magic on local retail too, and downtown Raleigh is the better for it! Kindred branches out from the handful of other retail shops in the downtown area by offering a wide assortment of products ranging from jewelry to clothing to art prints to bath and body goods to edibles and more, showcasing many creators and designers under the same roof rather than focusing on a single product or brand. The space itself is lovely; if you’d ever seen it before, you wouldn’t have believed it could look so beautiful! Light, airy, thoughtfully lit, it is inviting and enjoyable. In addition to retail, Kindred again breaks the usual retail mold and working as a small business incubator, offering workshops and other events to help local artists, craftspeople, and designers learn to build and grow their businesses — a true benefit for the Triangle’s art and craft community! If you want a shopping experience beyond the ordinary, stop by Kindred!

Stopped in here before Christmas to check out the scene for some local gifts. The shop is cute and well organized with a neat variety of items. The selection is limited though– not packed to the gills, but arranged artfully. I ended up getting an oilcloth and leather clutch– for my husband– though I’d love to use it too. But, he’s always juggling his keys, wallet, pens, phone, etc so I figured he needed something to hold it all together. He loved it(but only keeps it in the car– ha). Other items in the shop are prints, pottery, cool handbags, and an assortment of jewelry. There were also some nice christmas items– including one stocking made from recycled linen that I particularly lusted after. For local and unique gifts, I’ll keep this one on my rotation.

Vent the bathroom better. It’s way in the back, but I was struck by the odoriferous blast the moment I walked in. Just sayin’, and someone had to; I just regret that it had to be me. The moment quickly passed, but woosh! Aside from that first impression, I like the idea behind this shop. A lot. The execution is nice, with clearly demarcated sections indicating the different featured artists. It’s Artspace, but at a passing pedestrian’s pace. As this place evolves into itself, I hope it takes greater risks in the artists featured, however. There seems to be a general tone or theme that is a little too safe, homogeneous. I know Raleigh has some eclectic and eccentric creators out there. Kindred would be an ideal place to feature such diversity. Easy to digest artsy consumptions on your way to neighboring restaurants. Joy!

Attended a Unilocal event here last night, «Haute for the holidays». So glad I had the opportunity to visit this store. What a lovely space. The store is full of handmade clothing, jewelry, accessories, paper, and wood items. Around the store you can read bios of the artists of different items. On the visit, I purchased a pair of cute earrings made out of recycled glass. I can appreciate these type of things because I dabble in making handmade jewelry. The space is also used for Yoga classes on certain days. The ladies working in the store were very nice and explained that they are planning to use the space for different classes/events starting in 2013.

I have been reading about Kindred on local Raleigh blogs for a few weeks so I when I was downtown yesterday for the Handmade Market I stopped in to see what Kindred was all about. The store is in a perfect location and it is beautiful! There are bins of art prints, shelves of unique jewelry, pottery, and hand printed fabric items for sale as well as a comfy seating area in the middle of the store. Even though the merch felt sparse, I can see it’s future potential to grow. The space has a chic, modern, handmade feel that made me feel like I was inside of an Etsy shop. I noticed a large open space behind the register that looks like a future workshop space. I can’t wait to see more from this business!

Simply fabulous! This store not only showcases emerging local designers, it’s also an incubator that offers mentoring and support for those artists. When I dropped in for the grand opening, I was immediately impressed with the space — beautiful blue-green walls, serving as a backdrop to clean shelving and a wonderfully curated collection of pieces… I especially ooh’ed over some of the earrings and scarves, and I’m quite sure I’m coming back for a handbag in a few. There were also graphic tees, prints, pottery, stationery. So many cool gifty items… of course, making it a prime stop for an eclectic array of browse– and buy-worthy baubles. They’re going to be offering crafty classes too! What’s not to love?
