Greg has the«purest» vinyl shop I’ve been to in the area. No tshirts, posters, bric a brac. No hipster, steampunk attitude. No inflated prices. Just an open basement space with an amazingly large and varied selection of used vinyl — all in pretty great shape hand cleaned on his DIY vacuum system(ask him to show you for a real treat in old school home engineering) and all nicely priced. And a well-schooled owner who’ll chat you heartily up as you dig. Leave your pretentions at home. If you want records — not a place to pose or say you hung out at — you’ll find it here.

Record diggers paradise, with a friendly employee! Another stop on my crate digging outing, I found In the Groove Records, thanks to Unilocal. Plenty of records, but short on hip-hop. I did see lots of the other genres. The shop has quite a bit of jazz & soul. If you’re looking for 45s, look no further! Huge, huge selection of these records, although the majority of them do not have covers. Reasonable prices. Park on the street.

I am ecstatic to have found an incredible record store in Raleigh. My first visit was on December 15 and I spent an unintentional 2 ½ hours there. It definitely put me in a good mood for the remainder of my Christmas shopping! I was initially impressed with the organization of the store. The owner Greg was very personable and extremely knowledgeable.(This was a nice change from a lot of the«cooler than though» hipster attitudes at surrounding stores). The records are in very good condition and are appropriately priced. There’s always a good jam playing too! I can’t wait to go back, definitely a Raleigh jem!

First time here; just getting into vinyl. Greg is a real nice guy and has a nice little record store. Organized very well and good for just flipping through if you aren’t sure what you are looking for. He is expanding too! Be sure to stop by!

This record store had a great selection and very reasonable prices. The owner was extremely nice, enthusiastic, and helpful. I strongly believe that businesses and individuals that support the local music community(as this one does) should receive support back in return. Great establishment.

This is a small record shop tucked in on the glenwood north end… its very small but full of neat vinyls. I went there looking for a Jeff Buckley vinyl for a friends birthday he didnt have it however he had many other lovely classics which are totally worth having if their what your collecting… I appreciate the cozyness, I don;t remember the mans name hoever he was very helpful and knows every vinyl in the shop and is willing to find you whatever you need if he doesn;t have it.

Though not overly large, In The Groove offers an excellent selection of used vinyl. Records are organized simply from A to Z, and not divided by artist. This is no problem for the dedicated LP aficionado, as browsing from A(bba) to Z(appa) usually leads to some fun discoveries. Don’t let the small size of the shop throw you: the owner does a fantastic job of «curating» the available options, so what’s here are discs you want to look at, and not a bunch of garage sale junk. The overall offerings weigh heavily toward rock, though I spotted more than a few worthy bluegrass, punk and new wave jems. The jazz section is small but everything in there was calling my name. Prices are extremely fair. Many of the records, even some of the really cheap records, come with plastic outer sleeves, which is a nice touch. Discs are not graded(other than by price) so have a look at the record before you buy. Everything I bought has played perfectly. The owner is on site and is super friendly. Raleigh is fortunate to have a record store like this. Next time I’m in town, I’ll be back.

Vinyl forever! In The Groove is Raleigh’s used record shop. With good hours, a convenient location(Carter Building, Glenwood South), a friendly owner(Greg Rollins), and great prices, there’s not much else I can really as for here. By nature of the business, there is far more classic rock and pop than modern rock. But, Greg will find anything you want him to find. On my last visit I scored a couple of original Beach Boys LPs(including an original 1962 copy of Surfin’ Safari for $ 12). I noticed a copy of Jimmy Eat World’s debut self-titled EP on the shelf waiting to be priced, which I almost added to my haul. In the past, I’ve purchased several BIlly Joel records(NOT River of Dreams, ugh) and some fun records like The Outfield’s «Play Deep»($ 3!). The partnership with Chapel Hill’s Sorry State Records has brought new and local vinyl to the shop. Greg mentioned to me he’s recently added hip/hop and rap to his store. In The Groove has turned into a regular stop for me when I’m walking around Glenwood South. Check it out.
