What better way to spend your Saturday night than with comical drag queens playing bingo?! To boot, the proceeds go to the Alliance of AIDS Services NC as well as many other local charities like the SPCA. It’s a win-win for everyone! The lovely hostesses Mary K Mart and Marilyn Merlot are sure to make your bellies chuckle as you frantically dab your numbers as they’re hollered out. Last Saturday’s event was on the NC Fairgrounds for Super Hero themed bingo. Though the acoustics were horrible in the Kerr Building, this didn’t jeopardize the fun that was had by all… just good, sober fun :) There was a concession stand and other small businesses selling various goods around the room. Some of the queens put on a show in between games, and it seemed like everyone was just having a lovely time. I think they said there were more than 1000 tickets sold… and they raised more than $ 25,000 that night alone! I had a delightful time & I’m eager to go to the next event!

Looking for something different on the weekends? Want to help a very worthy cause? Do you like bingo and sassy diva entertainers? Look no further than the monthly Drag Bingo events here in the Triangle! Drag Bingo nights in the Triangle help support the Alliance of AIDS Services Carolinas charity. Go to their site for tickets in advance(cheaper) or pay at the door to support this event and a great charity. Once there, you will enjoy the entertaining BVDs(Bingo Verifying Divas) including MCs Mary K Mart and Marilyn Merlot and a large host of others as they call out the bingo numbers as well as perform musical numbers with their special kind of sassy diva comedy. Each event has its own theme, such as July was Stars and Stripes Drag Bingo with the entertainers reflecting the theme of course. The actual location of each event rotates so be sure to look on the fliers and the website(listed on their Unilocal page here) for the location that month. People of all ages come out to enjoy these events and that the proceeds go to a great cause, it’s hard to resist. They even have concessions such as drinks, corn dogs, nacho bar, ice cream, popcorn, etc. so you won’t get the hungrys while you play bingo. It’s a full night of fun going usually from around 630p to about 10p. Of course there are prizes to be won, so what else do you need? Bottom line: If you want to go to a fun event that helps a great charity, the monthly Drag Bingo events are your ticket. I was glad I went to the most recent one, it was very entertaining, full of bingo suspense and diva comedy as well as musical numbers. Two thumbs up!

Drag Bingo is an incredibly entertaining and fun event. Come on, what’s more fun than drag queens calling out bingo numbers? You get a chance to win a great variety of prizes and there are meat and veggie options for the concessions. The location of Bingo does vary but like a previous reviewer said, you just need to check the calendar. Mary K Mart and Marilyn Merlot are excellent hosts and their banter is comedic gold. All the performers and entertainers do this out of the goodness of their heart and the proceeds impact those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. I’ve been too a number of drag bingo events and they just keep getting bigger and better.

Sparkle! Sass! Diana Ross!!! Drag Queens are fabulous(and they know it)! What better way to spend an evening than basking in their glory while playing a very suspenseful game of bingo and finding a cure for AIDS? You can win fun prizes and save lives all at the same time! Win-Win! For $ 25($ 20 if you buy tickets early) you’ll get about 10 games of bingo with some comedy and musical performances interspersed between. Now if you’re the type that says to yourself«Oh, I’m not really into that» than YOU’REWRONG!!! I urge you to crawl from beneath your little rock of fear and give it a chance. The crowd was fabulously diverse with all ages represented and this is all for charity! Every dollar that got stuffed down the well constructed cleavage of a Queen goes to the cause. And you’ll have FUN! Some of the jokes did lean towards the«colorful» but they were vague enough to go over the heads of small children since this is a family friendly event. I’d stick to bringing older kids though, in the 12 – 13 age range. All in all the night lasted from about 6:30– 10:00. They had a concession stand on site with nachos, hot dogs(which were not fabulous) and some beverages(of the non-alcoholic variety) This event is held once a month(but not consistently so check the calendar). Their home-base appears to be the Durham Armory but on the night I attended they were at the NC fairgrounds(again, check the calendar). You’ll also find out what the theme of the evening is and you’re encouraged to dress up! Here are some examples: *Happily Ever After *It’s Britney B*tch! *Super Hero Bingo *Ladies of the 80’s Bingo **The only recommendation I’d make to organizers is to hold this event at a venue with a liquor license. You’d make a killing.
