Get there early for sure, at least 20 minutes. Make a reservation as well just so they don’t stick you in the back of the room. We got there at 730 for the 800 Saturday night show, and we got the second-to-last parking spot there. Not sure where else to go to park around there. We walked in and paid, then got seated in the front row, almost center. After about 15 minutes it was half full and everyone was being packed in. By 800 it was jam packed, which I imagine would be unpleasant for people in the middle or the back, but front row was great. It’s a very small area and small seats so make sure you’re prepared to be rubbing arms with other people. I can understand why they have to put everyone so close which is fine. The show was funny and very interactive with the crowd which was great! I loved the whole way that it was set up and that its family friendly. Crude humor isn’t always a good thing. Overall, it was definitely worth the $ 12 to come here and be ready to laugh. We will be back again.

Was in town visiting family for the weekend. Stopped by here for the 4pm show on Saturday. It was a funny show, sort of similar to the improv show we had back at my university. I was kind of disappointed that the jokes were a little dumbed down to cater to the kids. I understand that there’s a 10pm R-rated show, but still this could use a little boost. All in all it was good fun though. Reminded me of a college days since the various segments like Red vs Blue, starting with the same word, roleplay and other stuff are by the book. Go here for some friendly family fun Oh and the popcorn was epic

I’ll start by saying my wife and I have gone at least a few dozen times over the past few years. Pros: This place is lots of fun. I really enjoy going. They’ll include you but don’t force you up on stage or anything like that. I’m somewhat antisocial and never felt pressured or pointed out. Very easy going place. There will be much laughter. The room looks somewhat rundown with tattered carpets but I think it just adds character to the experience. Cons: Seats/benches are uncomfortable. The owner is not honest about the free tickets for our birthdays. They say every time we go that if you sign up you’ll get two free tickets on your birthday. My wife and I have had 3 birthdays since we began going and neither of us received free tickets through our emails. When we contacted to ask the owner was kind of rude about it saying that not everyone gets free tickets and it’s kind of a raffle which is not what we’re told at the show. He did offer us free tickets the first time if we just bring the email which we did. Well our birthdays just passed recently and no tickets. We were planning on going tonight with our free tickets and I was planning on buying some concessions and when we sent an email asking about our free birthday tickets he said again not everyone gets them and only offered one free ticket… It sours me from going although I probably still will since we do have so much fun and it is not the fault of the performers. I just feel it is poor business practice from the owner. My wife and I are not stingy cheapos or anything like that. We paid 99% of the times we have gone but I still feel a bit cheated when they promise something and then get rude with you(nobody has been rude with us at the actual theater) when you ask to receive your promised gift. SUMMARY: It’s great fun for adults and children. Interactive. Worth every penny. I would recommend going to anyone looking for a good time whether with the family, first date or anniversary. There is nothing I don’t like about Comedworx, except for the owner’s response to our inquiry.

The best nights to go are on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month for the 10pm(late night) shows. Tickets are only $ 10 and the beer prices are good. During the 10pm shows, three different teams will perform. They will usually ask for audience suggestions and will each improvise for approximately 25 minutes each. They create unscripted shows in real-time, often with short scenes that are interrelated by story, characters, or themes. The improvisers, box office, and concessions staff you’ll see at ComedyWorx aren’t paid any money to put on a show. Essentially, they perform and volunteer in their free time as a hobby. Performers learn their improv techniques through classes. Upon graduation, they form teams and then hold regular practices with improv coaches. The price you pay to see their shows supports the venue, and therefore, their art. I’d steer clear of the coffee and nachos but the beer selection/prices prices are great. The candy and fresh popcorn is also a good choice. So try it out sometime. Have a beer. Take a class and learn to improvise on stage and in life. Let someone else think on their feet while you relax and enjoy the show.

I know that improv is really hard and requires a very special talent — it requires quick thinking, creativity, and intelligent wit. My husband and I both found this show absolutely painfully unfunny. In fact we left at intermission. On the bright side, there were good beers at the concession and the tickets were inexpensive, but we will certainly never go back or recommend to friends.

Dueling improv teams try to win the most laughter based on audience suggestions. It’s a great little venue to add a bit of levity to your life and you’ll probably have a great time. Nothing fancy in here but it’s cozy and fits maybe 75 – 100 people. Rows of chairs with a few tables and additional bleacher seating along one wall. You can get refreshments including beer or wine along with sodas and bottled water. Also popcorn, nachos, and I’m pretty sure I saw a few people with ice cream during intermission. Prices are less than what you’ll find in movie theaters. Choose from the kid-friendly early show or the adults-only late show. Overall, a great little local venue that is super reasonably priced.

I have been lamenting doing a review on this place because I’m torn. We were very excited to find this place and opted for the late-night show as it was advertised to be more adult-themed. Once we arrived, we were a bit disheartened to see it full of kids. No, not children, but late-teens and early twenty-somethings. Immediately I knew it wasn’t going to be all that funny or edgy as the cultural references would be limited to the five years in which the young audience would understand. Still, we grabbed some beers and a seat and waited for the show to start. It did, but the comedy really wasn’t that good. We watched two groups do their impromptu act and my feeling was this: Doing comedy live is hard, perhaps one of the hardest things in entertainment. Audience members have their own expectations and gauge humor differently this creating a very hard working environment. Now, these groups did have the audience laughing, but they were cheap laughs. Having a male act gay or act like a woman is funny, once or twice. When they do it over and over again, the joke fades and becomes old. This, however, was essentially the only laugh-generating stunt. Physical comedy needs to be accompanied by wit and intelligence. Perhaps it was because the crowd was so young they had to omit the content and increase the physical, but it was a bit flat and we left after the first break. While that might have seemed tough, I have no doubt that this place and the actors/comics aren’t worth visiting again. I will certainly give it a go once more. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, it was an attempt at adult-themed humor that really didn’t land.

I’m giving the place three stars because I thought that the late night Friday night show was just an attempt at perversion that failed. Had I not stayed for the late show, I’d probably give this place at least four stars. The family friendly show was absolutely hilarious; they get all the crowd involved, especially the kids. The bits are just funny. The room is a bit small and the seating is tight, but the atmosphere is great. they have a small selection of drinks and concessions at good prices. Wish they did dinner to make it a more complete experience.

I really was not expecting to like this place as much as I did. My friend and I wound up here completely by accident. It was $ 12 to see the Friday show at 8pm. When I first walked in and saw the place, I initially thought that even 12 bucks was too much. It seemed liked most of the people there were just in attendance to see a friend perform. That scared me a bit. I’ve gone to comedy shows strictly to support a friend. Sadly, they are usually never that entertaining. We were also informed that this would be a kid-friendly show. I was expecting cheesiness galore. I did get cheesiness galore, but it was hilarious cheesiness! There is a ref who warms up the crowd before the show gets started and coordinates the games between the two teams. Two teams of three competed against each other in a series of improv games. The majority of the performers were really funny and energetic. In fact out of all the people on the stage, there was just one that I did not find entertaining. There’s also a lot of crowd participation as the ref will ask for suggestions to go with the games. I had a lot of fun here and laughed A LOT!

I love this place I always leave with my face hurting from laughing so hard. You have to make sure your are going to the show that fits your comfort level. If you want it safer stick to the early shows. Which are great for preteen and teens. The 10 pm show is definitely for the adult crowd. The players change out a lot so every show is different.

We went here for the 10 pm Harry Show and we were disappointed. Some portions of the show were funny but overall it was a let down. The improv was overly structured and the comics were frankly just trying too hard. I’ve been to comedy clubs all over the U.S. and I was not at all impressed with this offering. We were here only once, so It could have been an «off» night.

ComedyWorx is a great option when you have nothing else lined up on a Friday or Saturday night. Like other Unilocalers, I’d recommend making reservations for groups of 4 or larger. They hold them till 15 minutes before the show. Shows are 8:30pm, but they also have a 4:45pm show on Saturday. Now, down to business… all shows are«family friendly», which I think is a bit unfortunate. I think ComedyWorx should copy DSI’s Improv Slam and have a 7:30pm clean show and a 9:30pm show for adults. But, hey, ComedyWorx has been around since 1989 so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about. There’s limited seating(and parking outside), so I’d recommend showing up 20 minutes or so early and grabbing a beer and a snack at the concessions. Local beer bottles(including Big Boss) are $ 3.50 and I’d pair it with a small popcorn for a couple more bucks. ComedyWorx is at the tip of Glenwood South, so you’re steps away from MoJoe’s and Mellow Mushroom. There’s an R-Line stop right across the street. I can actually walk to ComedyWorx from Glenwood Brooklyn so I have no complaints at all! «Late Night at the Worx» is for adults and kicks off at 10:30pm. The sweatpants/baseball competition format is ditched in favor of long-form«Chicago-style» improv. If you paid for the 8:30pm show, then you can stay for free(highly recommended). It’s just $ 5 otherwise.

We went to a late night show with a couple we had visiting from out of town, and I have to say that we laughed far more here than we have watching big-ticket comics. Comedy Worx goes down in a black box theater. It’s raw improv comedy(the late show is where you’ll find more of the questionable language and raunchy stuff… I think it’s funny when done right, but I know some folks like their comedy squeaky clean, so it’s worth mentioning) and it’s an inexpensive, fun time. Tickets for the 8:30pm show are $ 10(but you can stay for the late show for FREEEEE!) and late night show(10:30pm) tickets are just $ 5. You can make reservations, and if you’re going to go with a group I’d definitely suggest it because seating is limited. There’s a concession stand with very reasonably priced beer, soda, nachos and popcorn. All in all, this is a great option for a fun and reasonable evening in Glenwood South… or a fantastic place to get your night started!

Comedy Worx-Comedy Sports-whatever they call it it’s awesome! I love going to see these guys perform because it is never the same experience but every show is hilarious and fun. From the theme song to the names of the players to the creative energy that flows through the building. And the best part is it’s LOCAL! Yay for supporting local performers and local entertainment!

Okay, so I really didn’t want to be the first person to give the Worx a review. It’s hard to be completely non-biased having joined them almost 9 years ago and still performing with them now. So of course I think it’s great, because I think I’m great. But there’s much, much more to the place than a guy who’s basically down to doing two or three shows a month. First off, Comedy Worx specializes in improv comedy. The«Comedy Worx» show(based very much on the Comedy Sportz show… which we used to be a part of… at least we stuck with a hilarious misspelling!) is the big draw. Basically put it’s team-against-team comedy with the players performing games in the vein of «Whose Line is it Anyway» only, you know, funny. Like any live theater, the quality of the show depends on the talent involved. There are a lot of talented people on the roster, and the teams shuffle so it’ll be near-impossible to see the same line-up twice. The downside to making things up as we go along is that of course some shows will be funnier than others. The good news is that this show format works(worx?), and it’s very hard to not be entertained on your first handful of visits(go enough times, and you probably will be able to tell a good show from an okay show… but it’ll take a while). After the Comedy Worx show comes the«Late Night at the Worx» show, which is a grab bag of groups that perform a different style of improv. Some call it long form, some call it Chicago-style, and my parents call it «that kind where you said dirty things.» In this show, two teams each perform about a 25-minute set based solely on one suggestion from the audience. That show is much more hit-and-miss than the main Comedy Worx show, and my recommendation is to go to the earlier show and wait to be invited to stick around for the following show(usually for the low, low price of free) until you find a long form group you enjoy. Then come back for the nights they’re playing. So there it is. I tried not to talk it up too much, but I can almost promise you a good time. Just go. Tell ‘em Ben sent you, and watch them be impressed that you know me. Seriously, they’ll be very impressed with you.
