The Good: They provided good advice and helped me select floor coverings that matched the décor in the home we were preparing to sell. The prices were in line with the other estimates we received. The service was performed mostly within schedule, running only a few days beyond. The Bad: 1) I strongly recommend that anyone who buys service from Carolina Flooring read their contract carefully, so that you are aware of what to expect. For example, if you make the initial down payment with your credit card, their contract grants them the right to make additional charges to your credit card — not only for everything covered under the contract, but anything you subsequently agree to have done. These charges were made to my card with no advance warning, making it difficult to manage the other purchases I was making at the time to renovate our home. In addition, they charged the full balance of the contract without notificiation before the work was completed. 2) Their contract also absolves Carolina Flooring of most of the things that they are likely to damage while performing flooring installation in your home. In our case, freshly painted walls and trim throughout the interior of the home were substantially scraped and dented as a result of their carpeting installation. We were warned that some touch-up would be needed, but our paint contractor said that the scope of the damage caused by the flooring installation was larger than they had ever seen. They said that they would need to make two separate visits — one to repair wallboard and another to repaint, and requested hundreds of dollars for this work. When I complained, Carolina Flooring offered to examine this damage and determine whether to compensate us for it. They did not follow through, and later denied that they had offered. 3) If you have bathroom flooring installed by Carolina Flooring, note that their contract entitles them to remove and replace the toilets in your home without responsibility for plumbing damage. We found out that in an older home, lifting and replacing the toilets will damage their seals. Two of our toilets were leaking from five different places as a result of the bathroom flooring installation in a home that was unoccupied at the time. This caused minor flooding in our upstairs bathroom and sewage leaks from the base of two of the toilets. The toilet downstairs began leaking as soon as we turned the water back on after their installer left. We needed three visits from a plumber overall, and they would not guarantee that one of the commodes would stop leaking unless it was replaced. The floor seals on both toilets were broken into small pieces by the flooring installer, the plumber held them up in a plastic bag to show me. These seals are not intended to be reused. We paid hundreds of dollars for these plumber visits, and Carolina Flooring declined to pay any compensation. These are not the only issues I had with Carolina Flooring. You can find more details in my Better Business Bureau complaint if you look it up. I spent close to nine thousand dollars under this contract, but they turned their back on us as soon as they left. I will not purchase anything from them again.
