I really wanted to like this place as I’m a big fan of wings. The buffalo wings I got from the truck were drowned in oil, overcooked and skimpy. The maple bacon wings also weren’t that great and were kind of burnt as the other reviews have suggested. Its kind of weird that they put the bacon on them and then fry them instead of just putting the bacon on afterwards. The poppers looked ok but the wings were bad enough where I wouldn’t be inclined to try them again.

Got the spicy cheese fries at a brewery tour and they were unfortunately nothing more than greasy potatoes with spicy nacho cheese on top. Fries had no flavor and while the sauce had potential, I couldn’t even let my boyfriend finish them… had to throw them away. Don’t bother… at least with these cheese fries.

Yum… Maple Bacon Chicken wings sounds heavenly? Well we were very disappointed. Waited 20 minutes in line at the Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo placed order and waited another 30 minutes. Wings were BURNT, no taste of maple or bacon. Just burnt up batter around the chicken. My suggestion, make it a sauce instead of a batter or determine the right temperature and time required. Wings looked just like those posted by someone else.

Just ate Big John’s Hot & Spicy and it was not very good to say the least for 6 small wingets for $ 7.00(What a huge disappointment!!) and actually wanted my money back. As for the taste, I had their hottest selection that was NOT spicy hot at all. So, I had to add Hot Sauce to spice-up my 6-wings. You would be better off going to Walmart to order their Wing Dinner for under $ 5.00 which has more wings plus 2-sides(excellent veggies) or to your local Chinese Restaurant and order 4-whole wings for around $ 3.50 — $ 4.00. I am trying not to be rude about this review, but people should be «warned» before ordering this truck to their location — you will be disappointed. The older man at the window was actually obnoxiously rude(I thought I was back in NY asking the wrong question to an irate individual). He just lacked personality and was not friendly. All I asked: «What can you tell me about your different sauces? You just don’t tell your customer: «They’re right there(pointing to the menu on the side of the truck) — just read it!» I wanted to just leave without ordering, hearing what came out of this man’s mouth. What ever happened to Southern Hospitality or just being courteous! So, this episodic moment set the tone, but the wings solidified my thoughts from the first bite and I use to own a restaurant, so I know the actual cost of wings. NOVALUEFORTHEMONEY!!! Don’t get me wrong, I eat out quite a bit and this food was extremely expensive for what you received. No value for the money and rudeness — Raleigh does not need this passion rolling around on a truck!

I found Big John’s Hot & Spicy at the Durham food truck rodeo – there wasn’t a huge line, so I hopped in line quickly to order.(I think it’s funny that the Raleigh food trucks have longer lines at the Raleigh food truck rodeos and Durham food trucks have longer lines at the Durham food truck rodeos). There was a variety of wings and other casual fare(I had no idea what a «hot & spicy» food truck sold, but I opted for the bacon jalapeño poppers as an appetizer of sorts to split as we walked around. I would have gladly tried wings or something else, but I needed easy-to-eat while walking around the rodeo. They were delicious! Although I expected no less of something made out of cheese and peppers and wrapped in bacon. But the deliciousness went beyond the ingredients. They were crispy and surprisingly not greasy(considering their ingredients that is, there was still a lot of grease). The flavors worked wonderfully together, and I frankly could have gone back and eaten two more! I’m excited to try their other selections if I see them around Raleigh.

Really fast service — wait, at the most, was 5 minutes. This food truck frequents Roth Brewing Co – perfect for all the tipsy beer enthusiasts playing cornhole or lazily nursing their glasses. Their fare mostly consists of wings, dogs, fries, onion rings, and tenders — all at affordable prices. Feeling a bit tipsy myself(after a cold Roth brewsky), I hungrily ordered the Jalapeño Poppers(4 for $ 5). You get four huge, grilled jalapeño halves, stuffed to the brim with warm cream cheese, tenderly wrapped in fried bacon. Ohhhhhh yeah. Soul food with a spicy kick! I killed the whole order myself(boyfriend wasn’t hungry, for once), and I was quite full afterwards. I suggest sharing with a friend and having a drink nearby to cool down the spiciness. My only complaint was that the dudes running the truck lacked personality and enthusiasm — maybe they were having an «off» day.
