Why oh why did you have bad 60’s beach music screaming out at me while I’m trying to focus on the books. I stayed in long enough to hear three grueling tracks of falsetto and decided that this was NOT conducive to me enjoying a browse. I still have a $ 10 gift card that I can’t get rid of… Arts and crafts section dwindling down to nothing. Crappy books are all around… mass produced tree killing for no reason. Nobody remembers B. Dalton, but I do. Now hey, I just wanted to use up my 10 dollars. I’ve been trying to unload it for a year. I couldn’t take it after the forth high pitched wailing song. too early in the morning. Passed the manager on the way out. I wanted to run. Long live INDIES.

Can’t eat your own food and can’t sit on the floor to pick out books… I am disappointed in barns and Nobel

What can you say about this book selling giant. With on line service with real time browsing in the stores, they cover everything. If they do not have it, they will order it in the store and have it shipped to your door in a day or two. Great selection of Magazines, hard to find one by the way. The attendants are very accommodating in assisting you find your selection. They also offer some great conversation on the selection you are looking for. I was looking for The Giza Power Plant by Chris Dunn. They did not have it, but would order it. FYI, they were higher than Amazon.

I arrived armed with an electronic Groupon and a gift card. I then spent about an hour browsing, and sat down to read up on making some cool wooden toys for a little while. I’d like to get that book, but not this time. I was looking for a little substance from CS Lewis. Found what I was looking for and more. My Groupon was accepted directly off of my iPhone and I walked out a happy camper. The staff was very friendly, asking if there was anything they could find for me, and very polite, all smiles, irregardless, when I declined.

My most local«chain» bookstore, and a place I haunt fairly regularly. As opposed as I generally am to large box stores, I feel oddly comfortable in Barnes & Noble. The staff there are consistently polite and patient when I ask for obscure titles, and they occasionally surprise me by having some truly arcane book on the shelves. B&N is extremely accommodating of people lounging and reading, and I enjoy that. The store layouts are fairly consistent and there’s nothing particular surprising about any B&N — and if I had one criticism, it would be that I could go into a Raleigh B&N and think I’m at a B&N in Denver, DC or Orlando. But then again, that’s part of what makes big box stores so successful.
