Stepping inside Audio Exchange is like stepping back in time. I highly recommend it, even if you aren’t interested in buying anything. Joe is the owner and expert on home audio systems. Randy, the car stereo installer, spends most of his time in the basement and garage in the back of the building. Together, they are the Audio Exchange! I brought my Volkswagen in to swap out my dead iPod cable for an aux cable. I made an appointment over the phone, and brought my car in during my lunch hour. I bought my own parts online, so I was only paying for the cost of labor. Randy went right to work on my car in the back garage. Meanwhile, I decided to go check out the shop. Joe is an audiophile and definitely knows his stuff. There’s a lot of expensive equipment in the showrooms, including speakers, receivers, CD changers, and amplifiers. The backdrops and furnishings in the showroom probably haven’t been modified in years. I loved the old NYC backdrop in one room and the 90s Clarion poster taped up in the hallway. If you’re paying by credit card, you’ll get to see an old-fashioned credit card manual imprinter(aka knuckle buster).
