I just wanted to update my review to let others know that this is indeed owned by the same owner as NEBA /Mike’s. They used to operate all of those restaurants in the capital district and as the years went on, they were forced to close all the other locations due to declining business. Really sad, since I think their food is the real deal after working there for six years. They do have a hard time keeping employees, since they can’t really afford to pay more than all the chain restaurants, which results in the disinterested employees that some of you have encountered — especially at night/on weekends/other times most people don’t want to work. But rest assured the people making your food are usually the ones who have been there awhile/actually care.

For those of us in the Capital District that can remember the delicious taste of a Mikes Sub and Neba’s Roast Beef and long for that taste experience once again, I have found it. Mr B’s Best Beef & Subs on route 9 in Queensbury, Ny. I went there for the 1st time about 5 yrs ago while vacationing on Schroon Lake and have been going back 3– 4 times a year What a taste experience. Now being a Native of the Albany-Colonie area I grew up with and even worked for Mikes subs as a teenager. I even ate at the Mr B’s in Colonie Center back then it was mainly a pizza place. I’m not ashamed to say I cried a little inside when they decided to close all of their shops and we were left with Subway and Mr. Subb(which is the closest to Mikes as you will get these days). So I go into Mr B’s not expecting anything different. I see they have a familer menu to that of the old Mikes Subs. I see they have a mixed sub(which has always been my favorite) so I order it expecting ham, Turkey and whatever combo of meats that most sub shops consider a «mixed» sub. When i got it. I was extremely impressed. It had everything that Mikes had on their sub Ham, Cooked Salami, Dutch/lunchon loaf. They even had it right down to the soft sub roll which I feel makes the sub. they even had white vadilla onions. So i take a bite an WOW! The memories started flooding back. They even have horseradish –mayo which subway never has. My boys ordered the roast beef sandwiches and potato nuggets. Once again SPOTON! I don’t know if a former owner of Mikes/Neba opened this up or got the rights but it was great food .It may appear a little pricy but considering what you would pay at Subway or Mr Subbs it is very reasonable. The staff is very pleasant and the building and décor are nice an clean. I’ve yet to have a bad experience. My only complaint is that they don’t have more shops locally. I can garantee you they can give these other sub shops a run for their money. They have been around for 48 years so obviously they are doing something right.

Sometimes all it takes is one bad experience to make you not want to go back. However, I would give it one more try when I get back up there. I’m not from the area, and I didn’t understand the ordering. So, if you are new… Make sure you ask for everything you want on the sandwich… or it is going to be plain… They have no side condiments at all. I didn’t realize that was going to happen. So, I asked for Mayo and got told that I needed to specify that when I ordered… I would have to pay for it… Even though there is a sign that says… the free condiments… So, with the attitude I got from the staff really made me not want to come back. The tots were great. I enjoyed those. Roast beef was good… Please work on your customer service… and understand people that are new and just want to check it out might not understand the order… and ask if someone wants something on there sandwich…

Number of times I’ve been to Queensbury: 2 Number of visits I’ve made to Mr. B’s Best: 2 I cannot be in Queensbury and not go to Mr. B’s. The first time I went was after eating five apple cider donuts and I was just dying for something savory. One of my friends who grew up in the area pointed us in the direction of Mr. B’s. It was love at first sight. The architecture. The sign. The neon. The tables. The condiment pumps. The tray liners. And of course the food. If you’ve ever wondered why a disgusting thing like Arby’s even exists, it’s because places like Mr. B’s Best came first. Warm roast beef sandwich shops are a brilliant and under appreciated part of the fast food landscape. I have no idea how many used to exist, but now that I’ve clued into the form, I’m making a point to stop in as many as I can find. Real hot roasted beef, cooked to a gorgeous pink, sliced thin, and piled onto a grilled roll. I don’t need the tater tots. And I don’t need two sandwiches either. But next time I may have to get a second one. Maybe that will help to quell my desire. My biggest problem is that every visit I make here just leaves me wanting to return for more.

I was starving on Saturday and we were in town and my friend Kenny said I have a «fine establishment» that I’m taking you to. I cringed at the thought of where he could be taking me. but low and behold he took me to Mr. B’s Best Beef and Subs. From the first looks of this place I thought it was questionable but it really is a hidden gem if you are a roast beef lover like myself. After reading some of the reviews on Unilocal I was a little scared of what I was getting myself into here but Kenny assured me that they didn’t get what we were ordering so I trusted him and in we walked. When you walk in there is a huge menu to order from like in the picture I posted here in this review. I looked it over and Kenny said make sure you get a roast beef sandwich with what you like on it. He ordered his with melted cheese sauce and the horseradish mayo that’s not how I roll. So I got a roast beef sandwich with regular mayo and lettuce salt and pepper on a toasted roll with two kinds of tots(regular and sweet potato) and a medium diet coke. The roast beef was cooked to a perfect medium rare and flavorful as all hell. The tots were my favorite thing of the entire meal besides my glorious roast beef sandwich, they tasted as tho they had an everything bagel seasoning and were crispy and delicious. The sweet potato tots were sweet but could of used a little something extra to enhance them such as cinnamon sugar poured onto them when they come out the fryer… just a suggestion but don’t forget me when they are your biggest seller ;) All in all I have been craving this place since it entered my tummy and I can’t wait to come back just to eat this meal all over again nom nom nom. I feel they would get even more business if they were to revamp the place but I enjoy the nostalgia as I feel most people do. It’s really hard now a days for people to find a restaurant that hasn’t changed since their childhood and I feel that’s whats got everyone coming back for more.

I’m rather picky about meat — but I could not get enough of this roast beef. Absolutely perfectly cooked, not too rare, not too well. Delicious and simple. Nice and fast. Super nice staff. DELICIOUS

This is an old Mike’s-NEBA restaurant. It is like going back in time. Mike’s Submarines and NEBA roast beef sandwiches were the greatest. Mr. B’s still makes the same subs, roast beef sandwiches and tater-tots that we used to get at Mikes-NEBA. Nothing trendy or gimmicky here. Great sandwiches and subs. I hope they stay in business for decades to come.

Love this place for lunch. The roast beef on wick roll is my favorite with a side of tots. Always juicy and flavorful and fresh. The Italian subs are the second favorite menu item. Great roll and just the right size. My wife likes the hot ham and cheese also but I have not sampled it yet.
