meh, I was expecting a bit more interesting a menu. the brichole roll is excellent. service was very slow on an empty day, not sure what it would be like if you were trying to grab something before hopping on the train to get to work. last time I went by the gate was down, not sure if it’s still open.

I can’t say enough good things about MUNCH! Julio, Patricia, & Vinnie are a winning team who always make you feel welcome. The food is excellent, coffee good and strong, the prices superb, the atmosphere is quaint & cozy. I love their menu choices and weekend specials. Egg whites and turkey on brioche is a staple. But, that’s not why I go there. I go there because they’re like family.

Egg, bacon and cheese sandwich on a brioche roll. A brioche roll! What a pleasant change from the usual bagel or roll. Their cooking speed was a bit slow, but it was a nice homey experience. I’d say it’s how it should be instead of the hustle and bustle of a rushed operations environment. My iced coffee was pretty sweet too!(«sweet» as in pretty awesome) So, what did it cost me? Iced coffee(large) = $ 2.00 Bacon, egg, cheese on a brioche roll = $ 3.00 I was charged $ 5.25 in total. Not sure where the .25 came from. Might’ve been extra for the brioche roll.

A great under the radar Astoria sandwich joint. The couple running it are extremely friendly; and if they’re not a couple, they should leave their spouses immediately and get together — because they’re just too cool not to. But more importantly, the food is bangin’. When overwhelmed by choices, always go with the namesake sandwich. The Munch is a perfect little sandwich with a great flavor profile. Grilled chicken, swiss, onions, sliced avocado, and an avocado based house sauce combine on toasted and light hero bread. And it’s served on a trendy-cool plate that offsets the homey and comforting décor of the tiny storefront. Munch does lose points on seemingly never being open. They close at 6:00 on weeknights meaning I almost never get to see it open and eat there. But when I do, it rocks.

Munch It Up Why do New Yorkers feel compelled to blow a major wad on Brunch when the elusive, perfectly crafted Egg and Cheese Sandwich awaits them at Munch, a tiny, crown jewel for Egg and Cheese lovers that’s worth the schlep to Astoria if you don’t want any Hipster beard hair to get in your food or if you want to avoid the Mimosa slamming, too cool for school crowd that wreck any sense of calm brunch is supposed to offer in the first place. If your hung over big time, and can’t lift a finger, use your usual brunch fare on a cab and come to Munch, I know that you die hard egg and cheese purists are out there who are willing to travel great lengths within the island of New York to recreate the supreme pleasure these greasy, gooey sandwiches gave us when we discovered New York Delis and Greek Dinners during our booze soaked adolescence. Munch has all the offerings that make the traditional Egg and Cheese stick out again. You kick it old school and order and Egg and Cheese, say yes to salt to pepper, of course they use American unless you specify yet in my eyes it’s the only way to go. From there, you can chose from an airy light, croissant, a shimmering soft, perfectly rounded Brioche Roll or my personal favorite, a toasted Sesame Bagel that has the perfect seed size and perfect seed distribution. The bagel is also the perfect size that’s a notch smaller than any H&H Bagel without losing any points in crispy exterior yet doughy soft insides department. I get a sausage patty on my Egg and Cheese with the Sesame Bagel. Normally, I’d stay clear of these sausages because they remind me of the fast food ones yet this one isn’t that greasy and tastes a cut above the normal pig paddy fare. They don’t have an amazing coffee shop operation but it gets the job done. I go for a slightly pulp Tropicana with my Sausage Egg and Cheese on a Sesame Bagel for less than less five bucks with the place mostly to myself which is the perfect jump start to any day, on these days I know that killer writing sessions are around the corner. The owner is a class act and takes pride in his establishment knowing what a priceless Egg and Cheese experience he provides for the perpetually hung over, consistently spent New Yorkers that need all the delicious substance they can get their metro card sliding hands on. .

Great lil discovery around the corner from The Sparrow. Fresh meat and toppings. Lots of tasty sandwich choices. I’ve enjoyed every sandwich I’ve tried.

Food is awesome, and so the service and peeps working here. Sure they use usual cold cuts, but Munch has its own twist and make it very fun. Portion is not that big for its price, which is the only complaint that I have. The peeps working here are simply outstanding. Love chatting while waiting for my food to be ready. I’d rather order breakfast or lunch here than Othero down the street.

Adorable sandwich place hidden in Astoria on an otherwise normal street. Read about the Munchie-cristo(pancake sandwich with bacon/ham/or sausage, egg, and cheese!!) on Gothamist and so I ventured off to try one. The sandwich is delicious, we shared a sausage one and a bacon one. They come with just the right amount of syrup already on the pancake and some on the side for delicious dipping. Really cute place, really wish I lived closer! The guys that work there are super nice too. If its a nice day, grab the little table outside!

Very good and strong coffee(Bustelo), straightforward pastries and sandwiches, cute but minimal. On my first visit, I asked, «How’s the coffee?» and the counter guy told me, «It’s the best in the neighborhood.» That’s a strong claim, but one I will back. I love Bustelo coffee. It’s what I make at home. So when I’m in a rush, it’s Munch all the way(coffee: $ 1.25-$ 1.75). Sandwiches and pastries are straightforward. The place is cute, but really isn’t much more than a little deli counter. Good magazine selection. Open most days 7am to 6pm.

Faced with a decision for lunch today, I decided to try out Munch, a new shop that opened just a few blocks from my apartment. It’s a cute little place, but I had to get back to work, so I got my food to go. Their menu is half breakfast and half lunch, but they also had a pretty nice selection of coffee and other drinks. I got The Munch, the eponymous sandwich. Grilled chicken, avocado, red onions, and cheese. They grilled the chicken right in front of me, so I knew it was fresh. And it was really good. Simple food done well. And it cost me just under $ 6, and you can’t beat a deal like that anywhere. The rest of the stuff on their menu looked pretty good(they had a special today: two sliders for $ 4… so tempting), so I’ll probably be back there soon.

I just found this cute little coffee shop that opened up one month ago while looking for a parking spot early this morning. The yummy egg sandwiches come on brioche buns, which are soft and delicious, the $ 1 coffee is quite good(not weak lamesauce coffee) and the smoothies are fresh and tasty. The sandwich offerings look good and I’ll have to come back to try them. The small café has a few seating options and mainly seems to get foot traffic of local coffee getters on their way to the subway. But my favorite thing about Munch is that it’s family owned and operated by the friendliest group of relatives I’ve met in a while. After I ordered and sat with my food and coffee, I stuck around to read my book and wound up chatting a little with the owner and his son, who primarily run the place. Other family members also share in store tasks and all contribute to making this cozy little space feel like what I imagine Old New York to be: friendly family owned stores where strangers quickly become friends; where community members care and look out for each other and talk about more than just the crazy thunderstorm that night. Before I left, they asked me my name. Maybe it’s just smart business to know your customers, and to try to get them to come back after just a first visit, but it’s also nice to have a place that wants to foster such goodwill a few blocks from where you live. Not everyone goes that extra mile, and for that, along with the good food, I give this place 5 stars.
