I was getting my nails done next door and starving so I decided to check it out again to see how things have changed. Years ago when I 1st moved into the neighborhood this establishment opened up shortly after. It took a minute for them to find their groove. I would get home and have the wrong food or be missing sauces etc and that was annoying. On my most recent visit I ordered the Rasta Pasta. The gentleman before me had ordered a large and there was only enough for a mini so I took it. in retrospect the mini was more than enough(see pic). What happens next is interesting. Yrs ago the Rasta Pasta trend was started by Footprints in Bk on Clarendon Rd. Ironically that was to give the people a sort of vegetarian option that wasn’t so bland. My how things have changed. Everyone is now doing it and clearly this wasn’t the right option for me. This was the 3rd day of lent and I am going meat free for the next 2mths. When I placed my order I didn’t inquire as to whether there was meat in it or not seeing as though rasta don’t eat meat and again, technically this dish shouldn’t have any. Wrong! Got home and the sucker is loaded with shredded chicken. I was hungry so I picked it out. To me it was way too greasy even though flavorful. I don’t get why pasta would need to be loaded with oils. I had an order of peppered shrimp as well. It was right on the money in terms of the intensity of the peppers and flavors but I don’t know that they were fresh. Biting in I could tell they’ve been there for a min. I am not sure what the shelf life of something like this is. I would def go back much earlier in the day on another week day to get the food when they 1st open up ans it’s much fresher. Overall I don’t think the prices were that bad. I paid $ 11 for the tow sides that I had. Customer service was good and so was my wait.

Before these recent visits, it’s been over a year since I lasted visited this restaurant due to horrid customer service. Actually it was my neighbor that put me on to the breakfast that seems to sell out pretty quickly, especially the porridge. Cool… The food is ok, that’s not the issue here. Yesterday I went to buy some porridge for me and my little sister. She tells me the total and I give her my cash. Now as I’m existing, she tells me that she owes me some change… which I basically telling me that she didn’t give the RIGHT amount in change back, nor was she GOING to give back. This bugs me because none of us as customers can go in there and just hand over whatever amount of money we feel like and say«hey I owe ya some change!» Now this morning I go for my daily porridge and breakfast. It seems like something was wrong with the credit card machine. Now I can’t say I’m 100% sure but I’m pretty sure I watched the cashier swipe my debit card twice for the same meal and both times a receipt came out and she put it under the register. I’ll be checking my statement for that charge because if that’s what happened, that’s totally unacceptable. Just a tip if you STILL plan on coming here, just give them EXACT change for your food!

This place has the worst customer service, the people give you an attitude and are very laid back. The food is ok, but I rather go down a few more blocks to the door where I know I’m getting delicious fresh food at a good price.

I’m a frequent customer of early b’s. Oxtails are probably the best outside of my family cooking. That’s mostly what I order with rice and peas or white rice if they run out(which happened many times). The pumpkin rice is also ok. Stew chicken is okay I believe they add sweet peppers because it does have a sweeter taste to it. I enjoy the curry chicken although it’s probably the spiciest curry I’ve tasted. Patties are also good here(if they are not out). Nonetheless Im not usually disappointed when I get food from here. Some of the staff are more pleasant than others but The prices are good and location very close to home.

Stopped by after dropping my mother off at JFK, my boyfriend and I ordered two lunch entrees. I had the curry goat with rice and peas, he ordered the jerk chicken which was excellent. We loved the macaroni salad, the curry goat was wayyyyyy too spicy and the fruit juices had a little too much ginger. The customer services could have also been a little better.

Passed by while waiting for someone at the airport. I guess I was in the mood for something different. I forgot what I got but probably anything rice chicken and veggies… I dont think it was my thing so thats perhaps why I cant remember but I do know I was starving so thank gawd for anything with rice and chicken! Im not sure if I would become use to eating Jamaican food in the future but you never know so thats why I like to try things a few times just to get use to it so that Im not completely foreign if I have to eat it. Eg like getting stuck in a foreign country and you may have to get use to the food from the culture there. I had an african american who once told me he was really suffering when he taught in Korea… and I remember taking him out to eat to try different things and he wouldnt try it. So that is a lesson to be learned. I will try Jamaican food again even if it isnt my favorite cuisine just to mix up the taste buds a little.

The food was okay but I would not go again because the woman serving the food with plastic gloves on did not remove her gloves when she took cash money and made change. I even told her she cannot do that. That is a Health Department violation. She looked at me crazy and went to helping the next customer. Money is dirty. She should know this. Restaurant workers sometimes get lazy and forget the reason for wearing the gloves is to maintain a pristine environment when handling food. If they are willing to show you this unclean behavior, then what is going on in the kitchen that you cannot see! I would not have written this review and given 2 stars if she simply removed her gloves when I brought it to her attention.
