I think Maggie Malick’s is my new favorite winery! It was simply a great tasting experience through and through. For the most part, I enjoyed all the wines that were presented as part of the tasting. It was a pretty even selection of whites and reds. We ended up enjoying a glass of the Petite Manseng and Viognier outside on the vineyard grounds — perfect for the very hot Memorial Day we stopped in. Also, the 2012 Petit Verdot is not to be missed. There really is something to be said about allowing your wine to age. The owner and her husband were delightful and friendly. While I didn’t grab a slice, Maggie was making pizza that smelled delicious. And her husband greeted us like we were old friends. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the dogs! The owners are dog lovers, and their two lab rescues are the sweetest things. It goes without saying the winery is dog friendly. And, the owners and staff will love on your dog too! Don’t forget to ask about the book they have of «vineyard dogs» from across the country. While the grounds are vast, the tasting room itself is quite intimate. It’s less a cave and more a hobbit hole. So, take note, it gets crowded awfully fast. However, there is a ton of room outside on the patio and on the grounds for you to spread out. All in all, stopping by is worth your while. You’ll have a great time.

Great winery, worth the stop. All the wines were very good. I like the whites more so than the Reds. Danielle was so cool.

My girlfriend and I really love this place. Most important for us is the fact that they are super dog friendly; dogs are allowed in the tasting room. Their wine is consistently good across the board and represents a wide variety of options. Their Albariño is especially nice. Their wine club is reasonably priced, and comes with the standard perks: free tasting/glass for all in your party. 15% discount on all purchases, etc. the staff is friendly and the grounds are pretty. This place is definitely worth a visit.

The tasting room«cave» feels incredibly cramped, there’s hardly enough room for tasting and no indoor seating. The staff didn’t seem to know a whole lot about the wine, which wasn’t very good. The outdoor area is very pretty, especially with the pond but the overall experience was kind of bleh.

Nice selection of reds, although I didn’t care for the whites. But that’s OK; it’s hard for me to rate any place that has Tannat with less than 4 stars, and I’m not a white fan anyway. They are also one of the most reasonably priced vineyards in all Loudoun county; the most expensive was $ 28, and even that I got at a discount because of the VA Wine Pass. Even the $ 8 tasting fee for 10 wines is a steal. Maggie Malick has an impressive vineyard but sells a lot of their grapes, so they only make 2000 cases/year. They also keep a lot of their reds for 22 months in barrel, which is highly unusual(but a good thing). The tasting room can be quite off-putting to the unaware; it really does have a cave-like look to it, like a Hobbit hole or an Army ammo bunker. While this location is a temporary thing, given how long tasting rooms take to build, it might be around for a while. But the outdoor patio is nice and makes up for it, and they have light fare. Wines: I especially liked the Tannat, which I enjoyed despite the rustic palate. Second place was the Gramacha(Spanish Grenache grape), which had a really spicy nose and palate. The 2012 Cab Franc was pretty good; definitely smoother than other Francs I’m accustomed to. But the most unusual wine was the 2011 Mélange Rouge table wine, which despite my best efforts I hard a hard time placing. I almost forgot about one of my favorite parts of my visit — the sangria! Last year they had arguably my favorite white sangria in all VA, but they didn’t make it in 2015. That’s a shame, but hopefully they’ll try again in 2016.

Little mini airplane hanger that houses the wine storage and the tasting bar. Maggie greeted us and provided a very nice experience. Surprised with both the selection and the quality of the wines. Tasting was $ 8 for an amazing list and variety of wines. Excellent reds.

I am an avid vineyard frequent. I took my friend out who had never been. I can now say that I had a tasting where I liked EVERYSINGLEWINE! And she did too!!! I was blown away. The website leave a little to be desired, so please don’t let it away you from visiting. The views around the valley of the vineyard are absolutely breathtaking! Our tasting was informative, not skimpy, and again… we liked all TEN tastings! They also make a fabulous sangria! Like… Aaaaahmazing. And you can bring your own food!!! I’m so excited I found my new«spot». Mark(the grape grower) told us all about building the cave and the inner-workings of the vineyard! We didn’t get to meet Maggie, but that’s his wife and she sounds likes peach! She makes all of the wine recipes so we like her already! I joined the wine club, bought 3 bottles and 2 glasses to remember my wonderful experience. I recommend this place to anyone! They are toying with some later hours on the weekends so if the«open» flag is up… head on in! They also allow well behaved doggies !!! So excited to post about an awesome new discovery! Check them out! You might see me haha!

Their wines, especially the whites, were a bit imbalanced. Some of their reds show promise in terms of the flavors, but they’re quite lean. Perhaps the vines are just too young. The dogs, the view, and the corn hole are a fun experience.

This was the first winery that we visited on our winery tour and it was… okay. They had a lot of wines to sample, I think between 10 – 12 so there was a lot of variety but the tasting portions were rather small. The atmosphere wasn’t that nice… the tasting bar was in front of wine barrels and it was dark and musky inside. It makes sense since the wine tasting place is in a hill… think of the houses hobbits live in. They also had a fan blasting and it was FREEZING inside. Not my favorite winery during the tour but the wines were pretty good. Go for the wine, not the atmosphere, in my opinion.

Stopped by here last weekend with the girls because we couldn’t resist finding out what exactly a ‘wine cave’ was. Sounded to me like the perfect place to ride out a zombie apocalypse– my hopes were high as we pulled into the long drive to the caves, passing signs promising live music. So, it’s not so much a cave. Reminded me more of a hobbit home, buried into the side of a hill and covered in grass. But cute, nonetheless. We didn’t go for a tasting here since we’d had plenty of wine already when we arrived, but the pleasant man behind the counter offered his suggestions for wines by the glass. I’m a red drinker so I went with the Petit Verdot, which I’d noted had won a gold medal at the San Diego International Wine Competition. Most of our crowd were white drinkers and they chose to try the Mélange Blanc. We wandered from the cave out through the covered back patio. The view was pretty– discounting some obvious construction that the fledgling winery has undertaken. There’s a nice, sloping hill that leads down to a pond stocked with large koi fish, mountains off in the distance. We settled in to one of the tables, clinked our glasses and waited for the live music to start. The Petit Verdot was deep, almost plum in color. It was an easy wine to drink, with just enough tannin without overpowering. Unfortunately, the Mélange Blanc didn’t play out so well for my companions. The unanimous opinion of those drinking the white was that it ‘tastes like Mad Dog’. So much so that none of them finished it. I smelled the wine– refusing to believe it– and was met with an odor that I can hardly call appetizing. I declined to taste it, trusting my friends’ initial impressions. It’s possible the bottle that their wine had been poured from suffered some corking issues, but no one in the party decided to give it another go. The live music started up just as my friend’s warm baguette arrived, and we happily settled in to both. The baguette was nice and crusty on the outside and soft and warm on the inside and we munched away listening to the band more than adequately cover well known songs. Overall, my impressions were that the new-ish winery is still growing and finding their sea legs. The ‘down home’ atmosphere is comfortable and homey to anyone who grew up outside of town, and on a warm day I could easily envision myself hanging out for a little while longer enjoying the music as it floats off into the mountains. Another year or two and I expect Maggie Malick to earn at least another star from me.

Possibly the best winery I’ve been to in Virginia! Most importantly, the wine was fantastic. I was impressed by every selection on the tasting list, which included a few varietals I had never tried before. Every person on the staff was wonderful and informative and really went above and beyond. We got to try older vintages of several wines on their tasting list to compare to the newer ones, which made the tasting itself a really great value($ 7 for 11+ wines). We decided to stay and get some food, which was delicious and a really great value. If you’re planning on getting a baguette/meat/cheese plate at a winery during the day, get it here. The amount we got seemed cheaper than even getting it at the grocery store and it was delicious. I can’t say enough nice things though, it really was a fantastic place to visit. Definitely must go if you’re in the area!

Very friendly staff who were beyond apologetic for the place being busy. Busy? You would have had to lube people up if anymore people to enter to main tasting area. Thankfully we had finished our tasting & were leaving with our bottles, as the staff finally started to hand out the KY jelly. 11 very different wines to taste. Far more on a standard tasting than any other winery we have yet visited. All of them very good. Maybe an expansion is needed if the place is regularly as busy as this. The lube should be a temporary fix only!

It was kind of funny when my boyfriend and I first pulled up here we looked at each other and were like, «This place is so cool looking! Hope we like the wine.» Not that I’m a wine connoisseur or anything(although I do drink a lot of wine), this is the first winery I’ve ever been to where I genuinely liked all the wines. The people who do the tastings know their wine and are super friendly! The outdoor seating and scenery is really nice and they even have a corn hole game set up in the back. The place was really cool but the only reason I didn’t give it 5 starts was because the inside of the tasting room was very cramped and… bland. It was all white walls with some wine barrels up against one wall. To me, it was just ascetically unappealing. As i said though, the wines are all superb(my boyfriend and I bought 6 bottles!) and will definitely be going back.

So this was a unique place, but worth the stop. I was a bit confused what this was, but it is a winery with a normal tasting room. You try plenty of wines all for $ 7 each. Like others have said they have two dogs that monitor the tastings and don’t mind getting some attention in between pours. The wines were pretty decent, we walked away buying two bottles. What I liked about this place is they have been growing grapes for years, in the past they were selling them to other vineyards, now they decided to make some wine of their own. Most new vineyards end up buying grapes from all over, so it was nice to go someplace new and have grapes grown right there, you do not see that very often. My only complaint is when they do the tastings, they use the measuring stems on the wine bottles that pour out the exact same portion. To me they just look very cheap and I generally only see that at lower end places. This is a fairly new winery with lots of good wines now and they have plans to expand, once that happens I am sure it will get even better. They are a great addition to the VA wine scene.

This place was great. I called and spoke with Mark(Maggie’s husband) and he met us on a Friday around noon with his two labs. He had so much to tell us and was a great host. We tried some really great wines and learned a lot about the area. Would recommend everyone make this a stop on their virginia wine tour.
