Ferdinand’s is a great place to meet friends for some serious ice cream. It is a little out of the way, so I rarely stop in. Still, I am glad whenever I do. GPSA has hosted numerous events here and provides free ice cream at least once a year. Now that the Daily Grind has cut back on the number of flavors offered, this may be the only game in town for good ice cream. GO Cougs!

Great icecream and cheese! Really can’t go wrong with any flavor. If you can don’t go during game days or special days, it will be way to busy. I love their Vanilla and he Huckleberry grabbers! They have a TON of icecream in them and the oatmeal cookies are always delicious! They also make really good milkshakes that they make with the icecream! You can also taste all the cheeses and the Icecreams which is great! I always love trying the different types of Cougar Gold that they have. If you are in Pullman you have to go there!

The only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is due to their limited hours of operations. Fortunately you can get it at the Daily Grind downtown Pullman or the coffee shop by the Mexican restaurant in Colfax. There are so many great things to say about this ice cream, I don’t even know where to start. Basically, I love ice cream. If you love ice cream too, you will not be disappointed by taking a detour into Ferdinand’s.

If you are a WSU student think lucky! This is one of the best ice creams shops in the world! They have internationally acclaimed cheese too! Go there early as they close quite early.

I was visiting some pals in Clarkston, WA when one of them made a joking comment about some appetizers that were laid out at a social event«The cheese is good, but, I mean, it’s no Cougar Gold!» I didn’t understand that reference at all, and was then told that Washington State University has been making cheese for 1,000s of years(cite needed) and that in my pal’s opinion they had absolutely perfected cheddar cheese in a proprietary recipe they called Cougar Gold. I’m certainly no fromagier but I enjoy nachos the much as the next man, so I was intrigued. Then my pal told me they sell the cheese in wheels, which are aged inside of cans. Unique enough that I decided we needed to make the trek. I think the cheese lives up to the hype. The are a lot of varieties to sample and the shop that sells it is a creamery that also makes their own ice cream. You really can’t go wrong. That being said, at $ 22 for a can of cheese it is on the pricey side. The reason I give this establishment 4 stars instead of 5 is because the layout is bad. There are two separate counters for cheese and ice cream and when there is a bit of a line for ice cream it blocks off the cheese counter.

The ice cream here is great. Maybe more on the terrific side. We bought a tin of the spicy cougar gold. Super good! My only gripe is that it’s so small inside and very little seating. The line flows fairly quickly but it sucks to wait so long then left standing when you finally get ice cream. More so when it’s rainy and cold outside. I guess it’s the luck of the draw. I do while heartedly recommend this place. Really good stuff and run by the kids.

Simply the best ice cream and cheese ever. Service is great, but always busy. Parking is tough, but well worth any trouble. Best price on Cougar cheese, and can’t ever have enough! Go Cougs!

I had my doubts about cheese in a can. I had visions of cheese whiz. The cougar gold cheese is delicious with a nice cheddar bite. Great on crackers or just plain snacking. I also had the chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Really creamy. Go Cougs!

This is a great stop if you happen to be in the Pullman area during the week or on one if the weekend days that they are open. There are about 14 flavors of ice cream and they also sell ‘Grabber’ ice cream sandwiches. All of the flavors we have tried are really, really good. There is a certain freshness about the ice cream that you only find in specialty ice cream shops. You can also purchase the whole array of the Cougar cheese products and at a more favorable price than what you will ever see in Spokane. This was a very busy place today and the staff couldn’t have been more efficient or friendly. They worked the line quickly while still offering samples of both cheese and ice cream. Since you can’t buy the ice cream in Spokane I would think that you may even consider making a day trip to Pullman. It would definitely be worth it.

Pullman is the original Cougar Town and Ferdinand’s Ice Cream Shoppe is WSU’s legendary source of Cougar Cheese and Cougar Cream. I’m not sure if you had me at cheese, cream, or cougar, but, I’m proud to say I love you Ferdinand’s. ** Cougar Cream ** The milk comes from the University’s own dairy farm while the flavors are a blend of old-fashioned favorites and funky custom fun. It may be debatable if this is the best ice cream on the planet, but there’s no dispute that this is the best ice cream in Cougar Town. I tried four junior scoops for lunch … not dessert … lunch for the best mid-day meal ever … * Cougar Tracks Vanilla Ice Cream with swirls of Fudge and Peanut Butter Cups * Chocolate Peanut Butter Chocolate Ice cream with swirls of Peanut Butter * Huckleberry Ripple Huckleberry Ice Cream with a Huckleberry Swirl * Award-wining ‘Apple Cup’ Crisp Vanilla Ice Cream with Apple, Caramel, Oatmeal Cookies and Spices ** Cougar Cheese ** This is an even bigger reason to visit the Ferdinand’s Shoppe. Sure, you can buy cans of the award-winning cheese at the bookstore, markets, or online, but it’s cheaper here. In fact, the broadest selection and best prices on WSU’s award-winning cheese are found here and only here. I bought three cans to lug home. * Cougar Gold($ 20) — This is the one that made this all famous * 2-year aged Cougar Gold($ 25) — Same as above, but aged twice as long * Crimson Fire — Spicy and lower fat … a win-win for cheese lovers Did you know that cheese purchases supports student employees of Washington State University and provides educational support for Food Science students? Well, you do now. Keep Calm and Cougar On

I consider myself lucky I live far, far away from Ferdinand’s. I’ve been here three times in the last 15 years and I have yet to have a even remotely not-perfect scoop of ice cream here. Try the ones with peanut butter, as it adds a nice salty dimension to the thick, rich, sweet ice cream. I truly don’t understand how everyone on the WSU campus isn’t morbidly obese: Ferdinand’s is just that fantastic.

A quick update: the ice cream is so good I drove it all the way down to LA. They sell dry ice at Dissmore’s. You’re welcome!

Sadly, I haven’t been do the shop, as it’s either closed or we’ve been pressed for time when in town. Fortunately, the cheese cans are available at various stores in town, and my awesome girlfriend picked up some huckleberry ice cream and sausages from Ferdinand’s while waiting for me to arrive this time around. The Cougar Gold is my favorite cheese. I was skeptical of canned cheese the first time she introduced me to it four years ago, but it’s amazing: nutty, complex, salty, creamy, deep, rich, and so very slightly crunchy all at once. It really is a world-class cheese. I highly recommend picking up a few cans because it only gets better with time and makes a great gift. I can’t wait to try the 2 year aged! The huckleberry ice cream was fantastic… so rich, smooth, and creamy. The huckleberry marbling is a perfect balance of tart-yet-sweet, which is a fantastic contrast to the buttery ice cream. Better than the ice cream we ate at the Tilamook Creamery, by far. Lastly, the smoky sausages are great! They look sorta plain, like something between a hot dog and a hot link. We que’d some up that night and put em on buns with mustard and sauerkraut… damn! Just the perfect amount of smokey flavor, and excellent snap with every bite. They are on the leaner side, so they don’t shrivel up too much after cooking. They have a nice amount of seasoning without being overly spicy. A great all around sausage! I’m glad she got a few packages to bring home. We had some for dinner, again. The hours may be inconvenient, but, as others have mentioned, this shop and the products sold within are merely byproducts of the educational processes these students are undertaking. We are lucky it’s available to the public at all. Those who make the effort to seek these products out, and who appreciate foods not available at every grocery store will be rewarded in kind.

Everything about Ferdinand’s is wonderful, except for the hours. If you have a normal job, it can be a challenge to get there Mon — Fri, between 9:30 and 4:30. Still, it’s worth it. Definitely the best ice cream around, a good selection of other WSU foods and pretty reasonable prices.

Visited my son and had to come for a business trip. Then my husband took me to FERDINAND’S for dessert and it was so good. They make their own is cream in house with a lot of different flavors. The ice cream was very creamy. I had the coffee caramel. Sure bliss. It’s like going back to the 60’s Kina ice cream parlor kinda feel. Great place for visiting families to come and treat their kids. They also sell their local produce cheese in there as well as pancake mixes. Students are the ones selling which I’m sure are part of their school training. Quite a delight. I definitely recommend you guys visit if you’re in the area.

Cougar Gold Cheese… Oatmeal«Grabber» Ice Cream Sandwiches… This place is a fat girl’s dream. I have never been disappointed with anything I’ve picked up there. It is so worth visiting, grabbing a grabber and enjoying being able to watch ice cream being made. This shoppe is really WSU students learning the ins and outs of working in a creamery. But the products they produce is awesome. Try Crimson Gold, Crimson Fire, or Smokey Cheddar. If you’re out of state, you can order online as well.

As I sit here with the remnants of a small bit of a ¼ lb of Cougar Gold cheese I regret not buying more to take home. I was at WSU for a work related school. One of the WSU staff really encouraged us to check out the creamery and being a dedicated Unilocaler I checked it out and saw all of the good reviews. So I had someone drop me off knowing I would walk all the way across campus. This prevented me from overspending on cans of cheese. Yes I said cans of cheese. And no, this is NOT cheese wiz, this is the best cheese. Nice strong flavors and richness. I tried a few different flavors but the Cougar Gold is the best. So I picked up a snack and a quarter then moved to the ice cream phase of the Ferdinand’s experience. I really didn’t need the sugar so I asked if I could get two junior scoops and they were fine with that. I ordered the cougar tracks and %$&!@… Oh wait… that flavor was $%^&#!! If I was one to cuss this would be where I would drop an F bomb. The Huckleberry ripple was hands down the BEST ice cream I have ever had in my 43 years existence. Nothing even comes close to comparing. It was smooth and perfectly heavy and light at the same time. Not too rich or too light. Perfections in my not so humble opinion. The service was cool. You could tell the students are involved more than your average ice cream scooper. They had a passion that made it pleasant just hearing them talk about the products that they probably make themselves(with the cows help of course). Parking here«sucks» but actually is good because it seemed to be available. Just know it’s paid parking meters so bring some change and don’t skimp, the lines inside can be long. If you are going to be in Pullman or Moscow, make a special trip to go here. I promise you wont be disappointed.

Really doesn’t get any better than this place! If you don’t like Ferdinand’s then you are not human. The Cougar Gold cheese is a gift from the GODS! And I love just about every flavor of their ice cream. Today the boyfriend and I just got a couple of grabber’s. What’s that you ask? If you don’t know what it is, it’s a piece of heaven. It’s there own homemade oatmeal cookie with their ice cream inside. I had the seasonal flavor of Pumpkin. I seriously thought about getting some dry ice and bringing them home with me. MANOHMAN! TIP: a lot of places on campus sell the cougar gold wheels which are pretty big, and average about $ 20-$ 28. I am pretty sure they are the cheapest at Ferdinand’s BUT you can also just purchase some cheese by a ¼ wedge which is great if you are thinking… what am I going to do with all that cheese? Well they also have a scrumptious cook book by the check stand BUT we opted to just get 2 wedges and that way we can get different kinds. Also would make great gifts. My favorite Cougar Gold cheese is the Smokey Cheddar for sure! I really can’t say enough good things about good old ferdinand’s. BEWARE: It gets packed on big weekends! OH don’t forget to read the story when you are there too :)
