Alone with the sea I’m not sure what to call this beautiful and very unknown place. The maps I have refer to it as the Department of Environmental Management State Park South. However someone I met on Prudence just calls it south park to distinguish it from the state park on the northern part of the island. Whatever. The park itself is only a short bike ride from the ferry and looks to be an old military installation of some sort. You can still see the old paved roads and concrete bunkers or whatever they were. Everything is heavily overgrown with weeds so whatever it was obviously has not been used for some time. It’s great fun to bike around the different paths and see the ruins. On the very tip of the park there is a huge pier or dock that sticks way out into the Bay. It’s pretty chewed up and and actually dangerous to walk on, but people still fish off of it and it is really cool to walk out to the end. Since it is so large it must of been used to unload large ships during the war. Or something. But that’s the fun of this park and the whole island; you never know what you are going to find around the next corner, and once you find it you probably won’t know exactly what the hell it is.
