Less than desirable. The service was good and people quite friendly. The food was not very good, though. We had Sesame chicken, rice, egg drop soup, and cream cheese wontons in our group. Everything was mediocre at best. The inside was a bit dumpy. Next time we road trip through Provo we will eat someplace else:/

I’ve been coming to Rice King for 15 years(see my previous 5-star review). When the new owners took over, I heard bad things. However, in the about 10 times I’ve been since then, I didn’t notice a difference. Until yesterday. First, when I ordered my usual dish, curry chicken combo, I was told that I couldn’t get curry chicken in a combo, as it isn’t officially on the menu. Now, I would understand if this was the week after the new owners took over, as they may not have the same«the customer is always right» mindset that the previous owners had. But I’ve ordered this at least 6 times since the new owners took over, and they never even questioned my order. Now they tell me that I can’t order it. They did eventually let me order it when I explained that I got the same thing last week. But they weren’t too friendly about it. Now, the food, for the first time in all the years I’ve been coming to Rice King, could best be described as «meh.» It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t like it used to be. The chicken was kind of stringy, and the curry didn’t have the same«oomph» that it usually has. When Victor owned the place, he made sure that every customer was happy. That was what he was all about. Now, it seems like they’re all about… well, that’s just it… I can’t think of an answer to that question. I hope someone at the restaurant reads this. Very disappointed.

You won’t find better cheap Chinese anywhere in Provo. Make no mistake it’s not high end by any means but its good quality and they give you lots of it for very little money. The building looks a little run down on the inside but don’t let that scare you away. The service is always fast and friendly in the store, however when ordering take out over the phone they sometimes sound a little rushed or like they’d rather not be talking to me. Also the phone is SO quiet, I can never cet through and order without asking them to repeat something, no matter who takes the order. That’s not their fault though, they just need a new handset. Another really nice thing about Rice King is that you can sub out any meat for tofu and it’s pretty good tofu. I mean, no tofu will rock your world, it’s tofu after all, but the tofu here is surprisingly edible. For the entrees I recommend the Pepper Steak and the Lemmon Chicken but the lo mein is really where it’s at. It’s honestly fantastic, and they veggies they put in are pretty big so they’re nice and substantial so you don’t feel like you’re eating just noodles or they’re easy to pick out if just noodles is your bag.

Let me tell why this review is hard. I LOVECHINESEFOOD!(caps helps people understand how important something is). This place(utah) has been lacking in the chinese department. Where I am from has dragon like chinese food. So in a sense of the word… my time here I have been chasing the dragon. I know drug references are looked down on. But that is how I feel, so deal with it. So… rice king… thus far… the best chinese food i have experienced in this state. However, it is nothing compared to places back home. So how to rate this, I gave fours to places back home, this place is for sure a two compared to good places. But compared to Utah it is like… king tuts tomb. So… I am saying 2.5. But I am giving them a 3. What does this mean? You just read my sad sad sad thinking and life. The general chicken was yummy… the chow mein(or lo mein)… theres a rant I would enjoy having… who gives a damn person. Just call it chow mein like everyone else! I guess chow mein are crispy noodles and lo are soft noodles. Anyways, it was good. The only thing i thought was overrate were the cream cheese wontons. The cream cheese was delicious! but the crispy whatever was… meh. THEVERDICT: Do you want chinese food? well dont come to utah. But if you do and you just have a sever need to fill your body with sodium, this would be money well spent. Do you not want chinese food? Then why the hell are you reading this? hugs and kisses ;)

Dang! I don’t know why so many people are having a negative experience here. My family and I have been coming here for about 10 years. The food is cheap, and you get s good amount for the price. You also get egg drop soup and a drink included with your lunch. Don’t expect PF Chang’s, because you’re paying a third of the price. I’ve never had any complaints about this place, and if anyone in my family has, they were able to change their plate for something else.

My husband and I love this place! We love the head worker. So kind, accommodating, and funny. I’m gluten free and can eat Chinese food that tastes good! Really great price for quality and amount of food received.

My fave!!! Best in Utah for phở. Authentic and delicious. I usually order phở and the shrimp fried rice, which is also incredible. Everything I try here is surprisingly so good. Everyone please eat here so it never goes out of business!!!

Very good Chinese food for what you can get in Provo. The portions are HUGE and yummy. We got two dinner specials. That means we got soup, rice, and a egg roll along with a entrée. The General Tao Chicken was way good, a ton a food, just a ton of sauce! Then the Mongolian beef was good, a little chewy for me but my husband loved it and they had hot sauce for him which he loved. Overall, a good experience!

I’ve been hunting around for a new Chinese takeout place after the quality of the one we used to frequent went downhill. Based on some of the reviews I’ve read, I wanted to like this place. But… it failed. After my wife picked up our order and we started eating both of us kept looking at each other and after a few minutes she finally said, «this isn’t really that good, is it?» That about sums it up. My search for a good Chinese takeout place continues but we won’t be back to this one. We ordered: Cheese Wonton(10) — Hard to screw these up and this was the best part of what we ordered. They’re tasty. Ham Fried Rice — Ham tasted under-cooked, like someone took cubes of ham from the deli, chopped them up and tossed them in the rice at the last second. Mediocre at best. Szechuan Pork — Sauce had no flavor, pieces were huge and there were no vegetables whatsoever with the dish. Orange Chicken — When I think of orange chicken, what we got is not what comes to mind. I expect a delicious, citrus sauce on crispy, breaded chicken pieces. What we got was soggy chicken with a bare trace of any sauce whatsoever. There were a few bits of orange with the chicken but they had no flavor. Very disappointed.

From the outside and the inside looks poor but the menu is very cheap and their food is very tasty. Get«Lo Mein» instead of «Chow Mein» if you want the soft noodles and you are use to Panda Express… Everything good in this place. They had a young waiter who seemed to be working like the slave of the Asian owners but nothing major than that. Be careful with the Hot & Sour soup if you definitely don’t want your throat burned. Choose their fried rice with pork BBQ or Sesame Chicken and you will love eating there for great price…

The food was great, YET the service, the worst I have ever had. This Chinese Woman, whom I believe is the owner’s wife, was the most rude, unfriendly and unpleasant you can imagine. She would hesitate to get our order, took forever, when she finally took the order, the food TOOKFOREVER to get in our table, people who came AFTER us were given their food sooner. The Food itself was amazing, no question about that. but not a pleasant experience to be there.

Some of the best Chinese Food in Utah county. The lunch menu is inexpensive but you get a ton of food for the price. I highly recommend the lemon chicken as some of the menu items can be a little heavy on the garlic. The last few trips I’ve had the food quality has picked up and as always the service is incredible. Thanks Victor for making us feel so welcome.

As viable Chinese take-out, I have been generally disappointed in the food at Rice King for the past couple of years. It was once THE place for take-out in Provo. Our last big group take-out from Rice King consisted of several items: — Hot & Sour Soup(sour part was spot-on, but it was missing the spice aspect altogether) — Potstickers(hard as rocks/difficult to eat, mediocre flavors inside, tasty dipping sauce) — Veggie Lo Mein(gluey noodles, very dry, bland flavor) — Szechuan Shrimp(flavor wasn’t bad, but there were no more than 6 shrimp???) — Chicken Chow Mein(the best dish of all, nice flavor, good meat/veggie ratio) — Ham Fried Rice(oily and seriously overcooked ingredients, too salty) — Broccoli Beef(chewy beef, weird flavor, too salty, broccoli was mushy & greyish) — Pork with Vegetables(I’m still confused what meat and veggies were used in this dish — the only identifiable item was Bok Choy. Oily & watery at the same time, with vapid flavor.) We were so disappointed to learn that our couple of previous visits to Rice King had been confirmed as their standard now. Still great service, very friendly people; especially the owner. But… alas, if the food isn’t yummy, it doesn’t work. Plus, we rarely eat-in for any Chinese food, so the food is really the primary element on which we rely and trust for future visits. I think I’m done with Rice King at this point. There are much better places to get great Chinese take-out. Even in Provo. Sad. But, the good news is you can walk almost directly across the street to King’s Noodle(not affiliated), for mind-blowing Phở.

I remember going here twice a few years ago with a large group of friends and loving it. Rice King has a separate Vegetarian menu, so we’d go and order lots of plates and share everything. It’s good for that. Last week I stopped in on the drive from Salt Lake to Vegas and it wasn’t as great. The lady was snarky and they were out of the veg chick’n. We got the meatless wontons to start, they were literally slices of the breaded stuff that is the outside of a wonton – talk about bad for you! So greasy, but the sauce was good. My boyfriend got the sweet and sour pork soy. Again, the sauce was good, but the soy pork was very hard to chew. I got the beef with garlic sauce soy. And again, the sauce was awesome, I also liked all the vegetables, but the meat was tasteless and a weird texture. The bathrooms were filthy and you could tell that this place was just… dirty. But like most hole in the wall chinese places, they might look grungy, but the food is delicious. I would considered going back only if I went with a large group again.
