Heard of this place through and decided to try it out! The burritos are pretty good(we ordered chicken and steak/grilled veggie) as are the chips. It’s good filling food for a decent price. The service was friendly and fast, we ordered to go but it seems like a nice place to stay and eat too. Going back someday!

There’s a reason this is the only location left after 3 – 4 opened. They used to be incredible, but new ownership came along and lowered the quality and raised the price. If you go, you’ll still get a pretty good burrito, but not as good as they used to be, and it’ll be far too high in price. Expect $ 9-$ 13 for a burrito, no chips or salsa, beans, or anything included. I’ll never go to Mountain West Burrito again.

Food was ok, but for me it didnt live up to the hype. i ordered the roasted vegetable burrito and i think i had 1 tablespoon of very small chopped peices of veggies… it had good flavor but was mostly rice. If someone orders veggies make sure they have a good amount that they can taste!

Sooooo disappointed!!! I used to frequent Mountain West Burrito and would always order their delicious steak salad. It’s been a few months since I have been, because it’s been cold and I haven’t been in the mood for salads. I went today and got my usual salad to go. When I got to the office I was SHOCKED when I opened my salad to find that they have replaced their once high quality green leaf lettuce with NASTY iceberg lettuce, the portion of steak was HALF of what it used to be and it is now served in a very unhealthy fried tortilla. UGH, right into the garbage it went!!! Never again!!!

Why this restaurant is popular is beyond me. Everything about this burrito is BLAND. It’s also WAAAAY overpriced. $ 13 for a bland, mediocre burrito? I would rather take my chances with the E. Coli scare at Chipotle than ever return here.

This place has really gone down hill ever since its been under new management. This place used to be great. I went yesterday and got the vegan plate which is basically just rice and beans and I’ve been terribly sick ever since. Tmi warning. I’ve been sick to my stomach and I’ve had diarrhea since yesterday. Seriously? I got vegan food how can you mess up rice and beans? This place must not be very sanitary. They have teenagers running it. Food wasn’t even good. I’ll never be back. Also the salsa is always rotten, fermented and disgusting!!! Seriously! Do you even know the meaning of fresh? Probably what made me so sick. I only had a little bit of green salsa on my food too and I feel terrible. Thanks Mountain West for giving me explosive diarrhea for the last 22 hours and counting. Exactly how I wanted to spend my Christmas break.

Pretty good burrito. However I think it was crazy expensive. I got the giant chicken and carnitas burrito. It cost me about $ 15 which I felt was pretty steep.

I hate to be the outkast here, but I don’t see what the hype is about this place. We have now been three times and each time it’s been very mediocre and average, esp. for what you are paying. Maybe our issue is that we should branch out and try something besides the burrito’s or chimi’s but you’d think with the name, their specialty would be burritos. LACKSFLAVOR! It contains quality ingredients, but it’s so flavorless and bland. Most of their burritos contain rice, beans, meat and maybe cheese. The meat is good but everything else is so flavorless. I like a combination of flavors, therefore it needed sour cream, guacamole and some seriously good salsa or pico, which there was pico but not very good and not much of it at all. There is no salsa bar which I think is key, just two hot sauces which seem homemade but bother were way to hot! There’s nothing wrong with hot, but they should have a mild option as well. TOOEXPENSIVE! You’d think if you are paying $ 14 for a «Giant» burrito it’d be pretty«giant», right? Well not here, the portions should be much bigger.

My review is short and concise: The price is average. The food is good but there is not much more to be said. I just feel that though they are trying to make themselves stand out, it’s hard for me to find what they exactly do. No special sauce, no amazing price deals, no delivery, I’m baffled why these guys don’t do something like that. I would order delivery than anything else and their competitors still don’t do that. The service is good and people are nice but I’m still a fan of either café rio or chipotle.

Excellent Mexican food with high quality ingredients. I used to come a bunch back when I lived in Provo. Was visiting and had a chance to return, still as good as ever! Don’t use the thanksgiving point one to compare, this one is much better.

I have to say… We came to satisfy our craving for Waffle Love, and left with a new found favorite place for Mexican food. We are from California and have great Mexican food everywhere you look, so I was not expecting to get street tacos, that melt in your mouth good. I could eat here everyday. I love Café Rio, but this place has them topped. Great prices too.

i went to mountain west for the last time today. This place now goes into the category of «used to be good» the quality and freshness have continually gotten worse.

I went in for lunch with a coworker not knowing much about the place. I got a regular burrito with sour cream and guac to give it a nice full taste /chance to impress. It came in just under $ 10 with a few chips on top. I was not impressed by the burrito at all, but I was not unhappy with it. However, for $ 10 in Utah I wanted to be more impressed. I did really enjoy the chips and checked how much more would be. $ 5 for chips and guac? $ 3 for chips and salsa? That’s a bit steep, much more than even Chipotle. How about free chips and sell the toppings. There are several ways to get discounts or free chips, but at many places the chips are free. Nice home made sauce there though. I don’t see much to draw me back, maybe I’ll get a chimichanga next time I find myself there again(fried burrito).

Mountain West Burrito is great. I feel like i’m always drowning with the typical Café Rio, Bajio, Costa Vida burrito taste and it gets rather annoying. MWB is one of the few places I can get a decent burrito that tastes different from every other chain in Provo. The ownership of MWB has rotated once our twice over the years and i’ve talked to people that claim the restaurant has changed drastically. Personally, I don’t see what they are talking about. I know the chicken has gone down hill a little bit, but for the majority of the dishes they taste the same if not better. Typically I get a carnitas burrito. Although somewhat overpriced for the size, I am always full after I finish. I always have a bottle of red sauce handy, and continually dump it on my burrito as I go. I love the flavor — instead of being overpowered by the traditional sauces at the major chains, the red sauce compliments the seasonings and natural flavors of the beef in the burrito. However — if you use the green sauce, you won’t be able to taste much at all. In fact, the green sauce is so spicy that it deters from the flavor and all you can really taste is your burning tongue. Something I don’t understand is how you can charge $ 13 – 15 for a «giant burrito» The MWB giant burrito is no bigger than the standard burrito at Café Rio. I understand that it comes with sour cream and guac, but i’m not spending $ 15 on a burrito. The accompanying chips with the burrito are good, but sometimes the portion sizes are laughable. One time my wife was served 9 chips with her burrito which I thought was a little funny. Anyway, the service is great, the restaurant is conveniently located on the orem hill, and MWB tries and claims to use as much fresh and local produce as possible which I am a fan of. If you are looking to get away from your typical burrito, head over to MWB and grab one. You probably won’t be disappointed.

Not the same since original owners, but still tasty. My favorite are the quesadillas esp. the chicken and roasted veggie. «Fast, Fresh, Local» is only partially true. They’re not super fast. It is definitely fresh and hot, made to order. A new sign is up saying that they make everything fresh daily, and tortillas are local. Doesn’t say if other ingredients are or not. They’ve taken down the sign that said«we don’t own a can opener»…don’t know if that’s because they can’t claim it anymore or what. But the ingredients are still delicious. The steak and chicken are especially flavorful and tender. I love the guacamole and their red sauce. The service is less attentive than original owner«Joe» made it. He would bring food to the tables, check in to make sure everything tasted good, and be constantly cleaning. The place is much less clean now. It felt grimey and the tables and chairs had not been wiped down. I miss the Kangen water machine, and the selection of drinks has dwindled. Sad to see these things go because it affects my craving to go there as often.

Disappointed. I’ve been going to Mountain West for a few years and since they changed management nothing has been quite as good. They used to give you fresh little cups of salsa with lots of chips and your burrito, now they give you(I kid you not) 6 chips and leave bottles of salsa on the tables. More than 3 of which were full of rotten/fermented salsa. This is not the first time the salsa has been rotten. Even the water out of the soda machine had a metallic taste. I don’t think I’ll be going back anymore.

I wasnt very impressed with their chicken chimi. Too much beans, chicken was not as moist. Definitely needed more cheese. Although what surprised me was it wasn’t at all greasy. Maybe this was a super healthy chimi. Took a friend of mine and told him about the great reviews here. He is a connoisseur of burritos and he wasnt impressed either. We both felt that it lacked flavor and gooeyness.

This is one of my go– to burrito places. I have eaten way too many burritos from here. Back when they opened their new location, I had a burrito eating contest, whomever ate a giant burrito with all the meats in it in the fastest time got a $ 100 gift card. That card, my friends, was mine. The other competitors didn’t even know what hit them! I’ll tell you the secret to winning: the jalapeño sauce. You need to wet down the burrito because without it, it can be a bit dry. I like to order the chicken burrito with extra pico inside. I’ve ordered other things on the menu, but I find the chicken to be the most delicious. Then the steak. I didn’t care too much for the chimichanga, probably because I don’t do greasy very well. Interesting fact: the jalepeño sauce changes color one week out of the year because of the jalapeños they harvest for that week are reddish. I do like the new additions to the menu, but I will always stick with my traditional. [Update Mar 2016: This place has really gone downhill with the change in ownership. Prices have gone way up and quality had gone down. The worst part? They don’t even have their grilled chicken burrito anymore. From now on, I’ll take a pass on this place. :/ ]

Okay, so I put off writing this review for a month because I’m unsure of how I feel about it. I liked it, but I didn’t. I think I need to go back and attempt something different because I feel weird having this conflicting war inside me about a simple burrito place. I got a chimichanga with the slow roast pork, and it was very crispy and surprisingly not very greasy. But it also lacked a lot of flavor and ended up tasting like pork and crispy tortilla. I continued to DUMP their salsa on it to add something more to it. It’s a cute area with decent food and I would probably go back if someone suggested it, but I don’t think I will go back with the DIRE need to GORGEMYSELF with their chimichangas. The salsa and guacamole are awesome though, and the staff(I think the guy serving me was the actual owner/manager/whatever you call it) was super enthusiastic and nice.
