The Bike Shack

I usually bring my own bike to P town because I’ve been disappointed before with bike rentals bikes. But this year brought my paddleboard instead which left no room for my bike. Rented a bike from the bike shack and was very impressed with the ride!

We wanted to rent bikes and ride to Race Point Beach, then to Herring Cove Beach and then back to town, so we checked Unilocal and found four options — Bike Shack, Ptown Bikes, Gale Force Bikes and Arnold’s.
We chose Bike Shack given the outstanding Unilocal reviews and plus, our hotel gave us coupons for 10% off rentals there.
Also, the other three bike shops all closed at 6pm, whereas Bike Shack stayed open until 8pm… a HUGE difference when it’s Summertime and you’re biking, going to the beach and want to maximize your daylight hours… Huge. That was really one of the deciding factors, so good call on Steve’s part (the owner) to stay open later! Competition at its best and knowing your customer.
When we arrived at the shop to rent our bikes, Steve was overwhelming helpful, friendly, honest and generally a good person. You can tell that he genuinely loves his job and helping people.
Steve used to be a bike messenger in NYC, so we had a lot to chat about as he was familiar with my neighborhood, work, etc. Plus, he gave us a ton of information about Provincetown — where to bike, safety tips, insider tips, real estate tips, places to see, when to visit, when not to visit, the various festivals and general culture of this wonderful town. He really was a great source of information, and inspiration for that matter, as this is second «retirement» career. If only more people loved their job and career like Steve did, we’d have outstanding customer service everywhere.
As far as the bikes, they were excellent and basically brand new, with everything working properly and smoothly. He provided us with locks free of charge and a basket for our picnic stuff for the beach for only a few extra dollars. We had a great time biking and beaching in P-​Town and the bike trails was THE Highlight of our trip — a Definite Must Do when in Provincetown.
So, when you’re in Provincetown, a) you Must Do the bike trails to the beach, and b) you Must get your rentals from Steve at Bike Shack. Even though his shop is a little out of the way, it’s only like a 5−10min walk from downtown, and I promise that you’ll be happy that you did.
Don’t bother with the other shops — they’re amateurs compared to Bike Shop!

Great place to rent bikes. The equipment is great, and the owners are all about making your holiday perfect. Steve’s really sweet and was excited about recommending restaurants for our group. He didn’t even charge us extra for being late.

we rented two bikes for 24 hours for $ 45 in total, not bad, very fun riding over the dunes and also tiring.

Excellent place! Steve the owner was helpful, friendly and got us on our way. It was our first trip to Provincetown and we told him we were staying at the Revere Guest House. We got a 10% discount as guests there. They have similar deals at other places so be sure to ask about it. We highly recommend!

I am totally a fan. We just returned the two Giant bikes we had for ten days. They were affordable, great bikes and came with helmets, baskets, locks and lights. Most importantly they got us everywhere we needed to go. Renting from the Bike Shack we easy and fast and the bikes were great. We will definitely be back to rent again next time we visit Ptown and need us some sweet wheels.

We decided last minute that we wanted to rent bikes for the day, and I’m so glad we went to The Bike Shack! The selection of bikes was good, and they had a trailer and helmet for our toddler. The guys were very friendly and gave us great directions and information. The location is great for getting to the Provincelands.
Next time we rent bikes, we will come back to the Bike Shack!

This place is fantastic!!! Super helpful, caring staff set up bikes for all five of us today! Each bike was meticulously maintained and geared for each of my three kiddos paired with helmets & locks. We rented a kid buggy pull-​along for my five year old. She loved the arrangements and I loved how easy it was to pull up and down the winding Race Point biking trails. I just can’t stress enough how nice everyone was. You can tell these folks love what they do & take pride in their work. Much Oblige!

This was the first year in decades I decided I was done with strapping the bike rack on the car, strapping the bikes to the rack and shlepping the family bikes to P-​town.
After using the Bike Shack our family bikes will stay home forever! Life is easy! Great service, great price, great bikes and convenient to all the bike trails. PLUS no more strapping and no more shlepping! What a relief! Stop shlepping! Go to the Bike Shack! They’re great!

Ask for Steve! Short walk off the main drag. well worth it… the advice alone of where to go, what to eat, etc… great bikes he fitted just for me! Thanks Steve!

Excellent service, my bike was ready when I picked it up an hour after reserving it online. Steve gave me tips on where to ride and what to check out, and fitted the bike with a bell for me to use to let people know I’m behind them. Would definitely recommend.

I didn’t rent a bike but I did buy a lock. I was impressed with the good, friendly greeting and service, and also that they did not gouge me with their prices. The lock I bought was fairly priced, and they happily installed the lock mount on my bike and helped me program the combination. Great vibe here, I strongly recommend this place!

DO NOT RENT BIKES FROM HERE! We waited for over an hour for bikes because the ones we rented hadn’t been returned yet. Rather than giving us bikes in the shop, the owner made us wait over an hour to build new ones. The shop as the owner didn’t want to «mess up his system» by renting out other bikes. So the customer clearly doesn’t come first here. Worst off, the bikes has chain and break issues! Rent bikes from here at your own peril.

Bikes are a MUST in P-​Town and Steve and team did an awesome job getting us set up for our week. We had four bikes delivered, each of which came with bottle holders, bike locks and front/​rear lights. The lights were especially handy coming home from dinner — made us feel super safe. Including locks in the deal meant we could leave our bikes where wanted without worrying. They went the extra mile adjusting our bikes to fit each rider and even picked up our bikes at the end of the week.
All four bikes worked great throughout the week. We rode dozens of miles, all over P-​Town and surrounding area, never had a problem.

Place was great!
You can never be sure how well maintained rental items can be. This place, however, has top of the line bikes and are very well maintained. There wasn’t even so much of a scratch on the bikes that my girlfriend and I used.
We came out to celebrate our anniversary. After looking at numerous bike rental shops online and reading reviews, we made the right decision in choosing The Bike Shack.
We were greeted promptly by Steve and Liz (owners). They had a great sense of humor and were cracking jokes with us the whole time. Steve knew exactly what kind of bikes would be best for our 24 hour adventure. While Steve cashed us out, Liz insured that the bikes were ready to go. She set up the locks, the flashing lights, and adjusted the seats to our liking.
Upon leaving, we actually ran into Big Bang Theory celebrity, Kaley Cuoco, who had also rented a bike that weekend as well. Steve was nice enough to have snapped a photo of us with Kaley.
Steve also gave us maps and ideas of where to ride.
Riding Suggestion: This is a little dangerous, but riding down 6A late at night is so incredibly relaxing. The stars in the sky and the cool air coming off the ocean made for a very nice late night cruise.
Taking bikes everywhere made for a great trip. I will definitely do this again, and I will definitely chose The Bike Shack again!

Great bike rental, every one at bike shack were super friendly. Steve was extremely friendly and gave us some great weekend recommendations. We’ll definitely rent from them again next year!

The bikes we’re in awesome condition, they set my bike up perfectly and it made me want to buy one from them. The location is very close to the Provinceland Trails — definitely a must, it was a great work out with amazing views. I loved Steve, he was very funny and great to talk to, he gave us great recommendations. Price for the rentals we’re very good as well. Highly recommend.

The rentals were cheap and the process was quick! The bikes were super comfortable too. Liz and staff were very friendly and informative! They gave us a few recommendations on trails and eating locations too. Can’t wait to come again next time!
