A place for pilgrims Everyone knows that the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth, MA in 1620 but few people realize that they actually first landed at Provincetown on Cape Cod. They were trying to get to the mouth of the Hudson River in New York but missed by a couple of hundred miles. They spent about five weeks in Provincetown but their predilection for stealing corn and other food items caused some difficulties with the Native Americans, so the Pilgrims got back in the Mayflower and moved down to Plymouth and established their famous colony. The park is small but very nice, with views of Long Point Lighthouse and the long breakwater that goes out to Long Point. A beautiful area that is the very eastern most point of both Commercial Street and RT6. Although nobody really knows it this is the actual spot the Pilgrims stepped ashore it doesn’t really matter. It’s very lovely and a great place to sit and take a rest on the many benches in the park and appreciate the lovely view and ruminate about what it was like for the people that first landed here so many centuries ago.
