I am a new patient here. The doctors and nurses I have met with here seem friendly, compassionate, and they listen. The women in the reception area are the opposite. They’re borderline rude and act like they are doing you a favor when you check in or call with questions. They seem to be struggling with an updated(and poor in my opinion) computer system and perhaps they are taking out their frustration on patients. I’m not sure how much longer I can put up with this.

I am very happy with University Medicine in general and the Governor street primary care location in particular. The staff at this facility are all very friendly and I really like my doctor(Dr. McConarty). The nurses really go out of their way to make sure that you are well informed with things like test results. It is easy to get sick appointments, and it is really convenient to have a lab just downstairs(Lifespan labs). In general I find that University Medicine is a really nice group of doctors to work with since they have specialists of all types(sometimes at other locations) which makes getting referrals and appointments very easy. Parking in the lot can occasionally be full, but street parking is also available.

Sometimes when writing a review, I find myself in a conundrum when choosing the appropriate rating. For instance, the location is great but the service(s) terrible. Or — the location is awful but the service is fantastic. This situation presents a bit of both. I adore my internist, Dr. Basile, with all of my health-loving heart. If they had a super-duper five star, he’d get it. I know that I will get accurate medical guidance with a gentle, yet direct delivery every time we meet. Most importantly, he really listens in order to give me the personalized care I need. I can always get a same day sick visit when I need one and they keep later office hours ’til 6pm some nights to accomodate alternate schedules. The office space is clean and neat. The laminate wood floors and spacious waiting area make the wait not so painful. There is typically a wait, but nothing overly obnoxious… and it’s not so bad knowing that I won’t get short-changed when it’s my turn. The medical assistants in back go way above and beyond to be helpful with paperwork and referrals if needed. I’ve never had an issue getting my doctor’s med assistant on the phone to help me. The flip side is that along with the office space being antiseptic, the front office staff can be a bit sterile as well. They hover around a one and a half to two star rationg. They handle inquiries professionally but they fall short of friendly. I’m not looking to meet my new bestie at the doctor’s office but a smile when you’re feeling under the weather is not such a bad thing. The parking situation can also be challenging. At certain times of day, there are not spaces in their off-street lot. I am familiar with the neighborhood’s one-way streets and can always find a spot. I can see where it may be off-putting to those who might not be so savvy with the streets around here, I would recommend this practice since I feel the physicians are excellent. I just referred my mom here — that is a solid stamp of approval. Just be aware that the office staff may not give you the warm fuzzies.
