The food was so slow we were famished. The waitress had stopped coming to our table. Tracked down once she replied you’re next. When I found her next she wouldn’t let me speak for awhile. I tolerated her pouring ice water on me, she could give me a chance to speak. When I finally got a word in edgewise I asked why we didn’t at least get bread as every other table had. «You have to asked for it». She ran away before I could find out who I should have asked since she had stopped working our table. Manhattan prices with New England stubbornness !

The service has always been terrific. The food great too(except this last time, the fries looked like remains). Main thing though: I don’t think I have ever seen a noisier dining room anywhere in the world. As I am not a skilled lip-reader, it’s a challenge.

A disappointing visit. Sat at the bar and ordered a few appetizers. Service was not good. The bartender was more engrossed with her cell phone than waiting on myself and my date. We had to wait constantly for re-fills on our waters. But what frustrates me and maybe feel like I was robbed. I didn’t notice it when I ordered, but they do half price apps on select apps at the bar and high top tables. I ordered two that were on that list but charged full price. The money doesn’t matter, and I ordered the apps without even noticing the deal, but it should have been taken care of. Other then that, the food was great. The mussels and clams zuppa was amazing. Big clams and mussels. Calamari was good, and the eggplant while not what I thought it was going to be was good. While the food was great, the service would make me second guess a return to this location.

I went here on mothers days with a good friend. We’d heard great things about Red Stripe, especially their brunch and were ready to eat! I got the lemon ricotta pancakes(one of my favorites) however, they were by far just okay. The lack of ricotta would’ve been more noticeable had u not been distracted by the fact that there was also no hint of lemon. They were decent pancakes, but not what I was craving. My friend for the chicken and waffles and this seemed far more satisfying. We swapped bites and while it again was decent, I think the best part of the meal was their display. The layout of the restaurant was also a bit awkward but overall, it was decent.

I have been here twice and my taste buds thank me each time. 1st time was early on a saturday for brunch, I shared with my friend baked french onion soup, risotto croquettes, corned beef reuben and steak frites. Each of these dishes was so so good I could not have been more impressed. The place wasnt packed so we got great service. next time i went with a group of 4 on sunday for dinner. I called to make sure they could seat us and they said as long as we got there before before 5 we can be seated because the table we would be getting had a reservation for 7pm. We were starving and were ready to order and leave quickly. Our waitress took a really long time to get our order and was pretty much mia. We were nervous we would be getting our food at 7pm and have to get it to go. Aside from that everyone was pretty content with their food. I got a burger and loved the aioli sauce that came with the fries.

I ate here a few weeks back while I was passing through providence. The place had a nice vibe and the service was good. All the food was good but the 3 soups we had lacked in exciting flavor. The mussels were also good, but nothing amazing for being a house specialty.

I’ve always loved the concept of Red Stripe but couldn’t get into the menu. Last night was a really good overall experience. I’m wavering between a 3 and a 4; but going with the 4 because I brought guests who seemed wowed. I was particularly impressed with the way they handled a gluten free issue and went above and beyond to make sure it was all set. The calamari was hot and perfect, not mushy or cold… my salad was tasty with freshly baked goat cheese and strawberries. The chowder left a little to be desired but may have been a result of too much bacon flavor… would certainly go back again.

For a few years, Red Stripe was on the decline, but it vaulted into the winners circle again. The food has gotten vastly better. I was impressed with everything from the meatball app, the Cobb salad, the cheddar meatloaf and the hot chocolate chip cookie dessert. The service by Aaron was excellent and attentive. Definitely one of Prov’s top 10!

The Red Stripe has a great vibe. Its got a nice bistro feel and the service is wonderful. The prices are very fair for the portions served and the portions are ample. We had Robert as our server and he was very attentive. I love the hangar steak and frites. I highly recommend the place.

Red Stripe is one of my go-to spots. It’s perfectly nestled between casual and fancy. You’re not out of place if you wear jeans and you’re not out of place if you’re in a suit. The food is delicious. There’s something for everyone. The menu offers entrees for $ 9 and entrees for over $ 20. There are a few good options for vegetarians. They are happy to cater to your preferences. They usually have a seasonal cocktail list and several beers on tap. If you save room for dessert, I suggest the giant cookie pie. Sooooo good. I suggest making reservations.

Servers and management(shout out to one in particular– you know who you are!) are kind and friendly, but service is slow. Went with a group of 11 in the late afternoon and it took an absurdly long time to get served. We also were only given one bread basket for all of us that we shuttled along the table. Water was slow to be refilled. Grabbed the ‘kitchen sink’ salad… Incredibly generous portion that fed me, several of my friends, and was still enough to take home. Tasted several other dishes on the menu but wasn’t blown away by anything of them. Generally on the blander side. Not bad but also not memorable. In terms of ambiance, it’s lively at best and too loud at worst– a good all around space for a lunch meeting or a family dinner, but it’s not easy to settle in and catch up with a friend when it’s especially busy. Overall, Red Stripe is solid, but not a first choice for me in the area.

First of all did you know red stripe is a type of beer? Neither did I. Anyways I went here on a double date. I had been wanting to try this place out so I just threw it out there and we all agreed to try it out. My boyfriend and his friend got the calamari app to split. I actually did not try any but I saw there was fried jalapeño peppers which peppers and calamari is a big Rhode Island thing so I wasn’t surprised. I on the other hand got the french onion soup. If you read any other reviews on this restaurant you will already know that the broth is so tasty. It was a pretty big portion too. I was expect more of a cup but oh no, it was more like a bowl. So come hungry! For our main courses I got the moules and frites which are only $ 10 on Mondays! Come for Mussel Monday! I extremely recommend it because they have so many different sauces to choose from and are big and plump. My boyfriend and his friend got the chicken parmesan and it was what they expected but HUGE! Seriously they have two filling meals on that plate. You are going to have leftovers! My friend got the Pappardelle Bolognese and literally licked the plate clean. She did not get a appetizer though. The rest of us had leftovers. For dessert my boyfriend and me got the brownie our waitress recommended which had candied nuts, whipped cream, and vanilla ice cream. The brownie was rich but not overly sweet like usual brownies. It had more of a dark chocolate taste. All four of us honestly could of shared the brownie dessert. My friend and her boyfriend got the flourless chocolate cake which was a lot smaller than ours for the same price but their cake had good texture. It also came with coffee ice cream and coffee tuile. We had excellent service throughout the whole 3 hours we were there(Not because the food took forever but we were talking a lot). Our water glasses were continued being filled and got everything in a orderly fashion. Our waitress was so nice and funny! My ending result on this place is to go here for Monday Mussel Madness! It is a great deal for $ 10. Mussels. Fries. Beer. Sounds like a good night?

Went here on late Sunday afternoon. So here is the deal, brunch is served until 300pm and they don’t start serving dinner until five. And not knowing this it was a little weird. They have kind of in between menu. So we waited and the did get us dinner a little early which was nice. We ordered the calamari, it was excellent and I had my favorite chicken parm. It was like butter cooked perfect. Prices were responsible and I would recommend this place

have been here multiple times over the past few years and decided to go recently. We had dinner reservations and we’re seated timely. The restaurant is always busy so expect to wait unless you have reservations which you can book online. Tip: This restaurant has two dining rooms. The first room when you enter the restaurant is very large, has a large bar. The acoustics in the room make it extremely loud and it can be hard to hear the person next to you. The second dining room to the back left of the restaurant has a separate smaller bar and the acoustics appear to be much better. In either instance the food is excellent and you won’t be disappointed. The burgers, mussells, fries, soups, appetizers are great. I enjoy this restaurant.

My husband and I go here often. We can walk, so that’s a big plus. The noise used to bother us, but now we realize that the noise makes it so private! You can hear each other, but no one else can hear a word you’re saying, and it feels so fun and festive when it’s noisy. There is a quiet back room, but we never go there. The moules and frites(the best french fries in the world — ask for them crispy) are delicious and my husband loves the chicken. He is insulin resistant, so he drops whatever starch is being offered and asks them to substitute a side of sauteed spinach or brussels sprouts. They’re always happy to oblige him. The salads are also fresh and good. Drinks delish and bartenders and wait-staff delightful.

Walked in today with my wife @ 1… 1−30−16 have been going to lunch there every Sat or Sun for awhile. I was told it would be a 30 min wait… looked around and there had to be at lease 6 tables open. Young girl told us that they were being saved for people that have called in… didn t even offer us a sit at the bar… left went to dinner around the corner… had a nice lunch. walked by Red Stripe to our car and there still were open tables… last week the we were there on Sat @1… no problem… but the staff spend more time fooling around than taking care of us and the other customers… not sure whats going on there… not my go too place anymore. i work to hard for my money…

Went for lunch on a weekday Had a hard time identifying the restaurant as it does not have a conspicuous sign on the front but there is a neon wine bottle sign in one window and the façade looks like a restaurant. The interior is attractive, there is lots of room but the atmosphere is still cozy. the long marble bar with it’s large mirror is a definite asset in the main dining room. The service was excellent. Everyone in our group of five was enthusiastic about their menu choices, cob salad and the veggie burgers were excellent. The french fries served there are really«frites», very thin and crisp, definitely high class. We are looking forward to going back for dinner. The menu looks great.

Red Stripe, did you change chefs?!! The Moules Frites(mussels) are always spot on! You can’t go wrong no matter which one you order and the Monday night $ 9.99 bar deal is a great bargain. The moules frites get 5 stars but the rest of the menu needs some work. Service has always been good so I’ll give it 4 stars. Duck Shepards Pie — no flavor and dry pieces of duck that will have you screaming for gravy to save the dish. Hanger Steak — over charred and under seasoned, zero flavor. Go to Boston Chops if you want a flavorful hanger steak done right. Red Stripe Choucroute — order something else. Stick to the mussels!

Service service service! Sat at the bar for 30 minutes after we ordered waiting for our entrees, bartender needs to stay on top of their customers, which never happened. Manager was apathetic at best when we walked out cancelling out dinner order. We opted for our local dive bar to get food, there we get good service!

Really wanted to love this place, but the service was so meh. Yes, it was restaurant week, but the restaurant wasn’t full and it took a very long time after we were seated for the waitress to take our drink order. Actually, it took a long time for almost everything. We finally ordered our drinks and went ahead and ordered our meals while she was there too. We watched as someone brought bread around to all the other tables, but skipped ours. She brought us our first course and I asked for bread. Huge piece of bread, nice and warm, whipped butter. Perfect. The first course I had was the baked goat cheese salad and it was really tasty and got me excited for the main dish — Red Stripe moules and frites. I’ve never had moules and frites where the frites come on the side with aioli so that was weird. The broth for the moules was tasty but there was a little sand involved, so they weren’t perfect. I went ahead and dumped my frites in there when I was done with moules and ignored the aioli. I’m a fan of sauces, but this one didn’t do it for me. I was going to get the chocolate bread pudding but changed my mind when i saw another patron’s apple hand pie. I should have stayed with my first choice. The ice cream was good, but the apple pie tasted day old and store bought. When the waitress came over and asked how it was, I started answering but she just walked away. It was so weird, like she was asking but didn’t care to hear the answer. If I had just come here for the bread and the baked goat cheese salad, it would be a 5, but everything else brings it down to a 3 for me.

First timer and there will be another trip to the Red Stripe. We got the calamari which was perfectly deep fried but not to crispy. The mussels normandy were sooo good. What a great sauce and fresh mussel. We also got the steak frites, the hanger steak was cooked to perfection. The fries were fresh and hand cut. The perfect bit was a mussel, fries and the sauce. Great place a little bright but will return soon

This place didn’t live up to the hype for me. The floor plan seemed congested to me with all the tables packed next to each other. No booths(that I saw) so it lacked that cozy restaurant feeling. In fact he felt more like a dinner that tries to be fancy. It was a bit prices. Had a burger it was good.

I didn’t rave about this place in my previous review, and I’m still not raving now, but I did bump this place up a notch. We’ve been back a few times since the last review due mainly just to convenience(It’s right around the corner) and it’s starting to grow on me. My major reason for the increased star rating? The servers. I feel like they service is top notch. The employees are always very friendly and attentive and that’s a huge plus in my book. Also, I’ve tried a few more menu items and was fairly impressed. The moules & frites are pretty fantastic. Glad we gave this place another shot.

Here is the thing: they have a few great dishes that I love, besides that, the service here is consistently horrible. I have been dining here since they opened — food is always pretty good but the service — whether it is take out or dine in — is mediocre at best. It is always extremely loud and I refuse to sit in the front of the restaurant, and every time I have to ask to be seated in the back the hostess gives me a hard time… why? I am paying $ 75 – 100 for 2 people and I don’t want it to be loud. I think I have had my last red stripe tonight. Good luck to you.

Red Stripe is a bustling, high-quality restaurant on Angell Street, and it never seems to disappoint. It’s one of my favorites in Providence. It’s a white tablecloth sort of place, with a family restaurant friendliness. Parking can easily be found on any of the side streets. On a recent visit during Thanksgiving break, we ended up ordering a soup and an entrée each, and regretted ordering the soup only because they made us too stuffed for dessert. The clam chowder was rich and flavorful, with bacon bits, a heavy dose of clams, and toasted bread. The roasted tomato soup was also solid with a really nice dill créme fraîche on top(though I wished for more of that). Our entrees in order of increasing deliciousness were: — Red Stripe Burger: This was a little underwhelming – large in size, yes, but pretty dry and flavorless. The guacamole and Havarti cheese only mellowed everything out. The accompanying frites were pretty tasty, but I preferred the ketchup over the aioli that they came with. — Moroccan Half Chicken: The chicken was incredibly juicy and the Moroccan-style frites were seasoned so well. — Red Devil Pasta: My dad loves seafood, but only reserves cholesterol-heavy meals for restaurant outings only, so it was very natural for him to order this spicy linguine pasta dish with shrimp, scallops, mussels, and clams. He was pleased with it, and you’ll be too. — Pappardelle Bolognese: This was as good as any bolognese I’ve had in fantastic NYC Italian restaurants – the pappardelle was boiled to a toothsome and the sauce was velvety and rich. Likelihood of another visit: Very likely! I’ve actually never had the moules frites here, which is a real shame. In addition, I’d love to come here for lunch or brunch one day.

The food would’ve gotten this place four stars but our waiter was just awful. He seemed very rushed, never spent more than 20 seconds at our table. Never offered the specials or asked if we wanted a drink then seemed annoyed when I asked him what was on draft. It’s a shame because the food was delicious. I had the crab crusted cod and I really loved it. My boyfriend had the short rib bourguignon which was pretty good.

This is my first time at the back side bar. The back bar is quieter and more intimate. The bartender Dave was right on cue and gave great service. I loved how the staff comminuted among them to provide great, timely service. Seem to attract many local regulars. It was a busy Saturday but the place was not mobbed like many near by bars and fine food joints. I tried the classic fish and chip per recommendation of Dave. He was right on with the recommendation. The fish was fresh(cod) with very delicate and thin beer batter crust that was golden brown. The dish was cooked at the right temperature so it was not greasy at all and flaked off easily with just a touch of my fork. I also had baked classic onion soup as an accompaniment(yes, interesting combo) and it was very delicate also. The stock was not overwhelmingly salty and had depth to it. I was wondering if someone had taken the time to do the consommé the right way — with the bone stock… I will definitely come back again to try other menu items and the vinos.

We used to go for dinner all the time. It is our neighborhood bistro. But then the menu got boring and the noisy, crowded atmosphere got to be too much. Now we’ve started going for lunch. The Kitchen Sink Salad is dense. I’ve never been able to finish it. The burgers are phenomenal — asked for medium rare and it couldn’t have been more perfect. There are many less expensive places to go for lunch in Providence, but Red Stripe has location, service, and there is nothing like a window seat when the windows are wide open.

After hearing many good recommendations for this place, I finally got to try it on Sunday. Red Stripe is definitely a must-go in Providence, especially if you go to college here. I ordered the Red Stripe eggs Benedict, and my boyfriend ordered the Red Stripe moules & frites. I have to say that the eggs Benedict was not worth the $ 14, yet it was still really delicious. It was two fluffy and perfectly poached eggs sitting atop salty prosciutto, sweet and tangy cooked tomato, and crunchy English muffins, smothered in a rich but thin hollandaise sauce. It also came with a side of crunchy, hearty, well-seasoned home fries that were amazing dipped in the hollandaise. My boyfriend’s mussels, on the other hand, seemed like a fantastic deal for $ 12. He got a load of delicious, tender, perfectly cooked mussels swimming in a golden, savory broth as well as a cylinder of thin, crisp frites and aioli. We shared the two dishes and left full-to-bursting. Pro-tip: dip fries in egg yolk! The service was fast and friendly, and the décor is definitely unique. This is a great place for brunch with friends, very casual and great for conversation. Check it out!

Ever eaten somewhere, and had a lovely evening where the server is friendly and the food doesn’t disappoint yet you totally forget to write a review? Sorry Red Stripe, you did not let me down and yet I let you down. Our server whose name could have be Danny or Sammy or Jim was helpful and friendly even though our original intention was just to have a couple of glasses of wine on a late Sunday afternoon. The menu need some sprucing up… seems very late 80’s but their execution always makes up for the lack of creativity(if that is possible). Their prices for wine are great, which makes any meal better . Diverse menu(if only a tad bit on the heavy side) great service and also buzzing with energy. Is this the best dining experience in Providence? No. But you could go far worse on «the hill» and pay far more. Eat Well Providence.

Few more visits later I am a RS lover! Stefani always has a friendly face welcoming us back, waving at us when we walked in. I had the lobster roll in honor of summer & boy was I happy, mouth happy. It was spot on. Lightly tossed with a aiolo, cold, sprinkled with strips of lettuce served on a toasted roll. Mostly claw meat — my favorite & on the larger size of lobster rolls. I started to fill up I just ate the lobster without the roll! Simply good. The summer cocktails are ready to try, the Watermelon Collins is a hit!

Really enjoyed the roasted tomato soup, hummus plate and efficient service on my recent lunch visit. My only complaints are two-fold: lack of signage and NOISE! It’s been several years since my last visit, so I had to do a bit of walking around Wayland Square before I finally surrendered and asked a clothing store clerk for directions. I didn’t see any exterior signage(not even a red stripe) until I saw the name on a menu taped to the window. Just odd. I would caution anyone interested in enjoying conversation over their meal to reconsider, especially for a business-related meal. Red Stripe is considerably noisier than most restaurants. I wish the owners would invest in some noise mitigation solutions to enhance the otherwise enjoyable experience.

With so many incredible places to dine in Providence, it’s always a slight bummer when you happen upon a «just average» spot. My fiancé and I ate at Red Stripe last weekend and were happy to snag a table in the packed restaurant with just a few minutes wait. I will say that although it was graduation weekend for a few colleges/universities and the place was busy, our service was spot on. We started with a plate of buttermilk fried chicken and polenta frites with honey beer mustard, which were probably the best part of the meal. Salty, savory, and altogether irresistible. I went light for dinner with a chopped salad with charred red onion vinaigrette and Nick had the duck confit due(leg and crispy duck roulades) with baluga lentils, arugula & piccalilli. I still can’t quite put my finger on it but nothing jumped out at me as completely delicious and worth the price. Overall, fine, but nothing to rave about. If I come back I’ll try the moules!

Met a girlfriend for dinner and drinks after work. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the company of Frederica, one of the greatest bartenders I’ve ever met. She started off with a mango sangria and I had a glass of chardonnay. The sangria was very sweet and when we arrived there were only 2 servings of it left. Frederica guided me to a lovely chardonnay based on my preference for a less oaky beverage. We ordered the Red Stripe grilled cheese with frites(based on all the positive Unilocal reviews) and a plain grilled cheese with bacon added. Everyone seems to be crazy about this special grilled cheese but I didn’t love it. The thick bread was very oily and the cheese sparse and flavorless. The pear had a strange texture and didn’t lend too much flavor. The pesto and prosciutto seemed like afterthoughts. To be honest, it mostly tasted like oil. My friends grilled cheese was deliciously cheesy, perfectly grilled, and the bacon was perfectly crunchy. I mean… when is bacon ever a bad idea. The basque calamari seemed oddly chewy, a little on the thick side. It seemed like a bow loaded with calamari but had more fried pepper rings than calamari, a very deceiving dish. My boyfriend, who loves calamari did not like it. The cookie pie was a hot baked cookie with ice cream and whipped cream. I’m pretty sure I’ve had the same quality dessert at UNOs. This dish was nothing special but looked beautiful. The winners of the evening were the grilled salmon atop a potato latke with broccoli rabe. This salmon is what dreams are made of. We also shared a Red Stripe style moules and frites. Extremely tasty and a hearty portion. All in all, I’d be back for the moules and drinks. I know Unilocalland raves about the grilled cheese but I’d rather their plain version over the fancy one. Make sure you sit at the bar with Frederica and you will certainly have a lovely evening!

I’m a huge fan of Red Stripe. My boyfriend and I live very close by and we probably end up eating here once every month to 2 months or so. It’s our go-to spot for times when we can’t decide what we want to eat but definitely want a nice, but not stuffy meal. Their menu really has something for everybody, and the space is very warm and festive. Just like a brasserie should be! There are a handful of reviews here saying they’ve encountered just so-so food, but I have to say… this hasn’t ever happened to me at Red Stripe! Everything has been delicious and I’m judging that mindfully against all the other wonderful restaurants in Providence. Maybe we’ve just chosen what we’ve ordered really well, so here is a list of the things we’ve enjoyed: –the Steak Frites –the bouillabaisse soup –the brick chicken with lavender polenta –the moules –the fish and chips –the scallops with risotto –the short ribs with mashed potatoes –the BLT –the crab cake appetizer All of the above have been fantastic dishes, particularly the bouillabaisse. We finally tried it recently and it was just outstanding. It was a very good value because the bowl came absolutely loaded with seafood(the bowl seemed bottomless!) in a complex, tasty broth. I think it might be my new regular. The only thing that hasn’t been quite as great are the desserts, with the exception of the crème brulée, which is always good. Basically Red Stripe is perfect for many occasions, from a casual night out to a first date, to dinner with parents visiting college students. If you have multiple people to please and don’t want to go somewhere too fancy but that still has white tablecloths, Red Stripe is a great choice!
