I discovered this place through Groupon. Mosaic was super cozy with just the right amount of trendy to it. I really like that the menu listed what country inspired each dish. The food was decent, a little small on the portion size for the price, but we American’s over eat anyway :)

Dreamy. I had my first experience here last week for my birthday dinner. Mosaic is a «Latin American Bistro» and I was a little apprehensive about the concept, being of South American descent. I usually prefer the traditional route and I can be slightly picky about Latin food. However, I was blown away by the experience! This restaurant will forever be in my heart because the experience was so wonderful that we created memories that evening. When we walked in, beautiful art lined the walls and the bar was cozy with a beautiful spiral staircase behind the bar that had a single votive on each step. The service was magical, the food was beautiful, and the wine was delish! We honestly felt like we eating food we had only seen on television. It was THAT good(and plated that well!). I highly suggest the shrimp appetizer(camarones) and asopao(an unbelievable seafood dish) for the entrée. The flavors in these two were authentic, yet the deconstruction modernized the plates. Bravo!

Last night(11÷18÷11) was my first experience, and I would recommend this place to anyone. We had a certificate, which made it extra tempting to try, and I’m glad we did. Must go: If you want a vibe, go after 8 pm. If you want quiet, go earlier. Must see: Very cool space. Must eat: Fugazzetta Tropical. I was speechless as I inhaled it. Must sip: Their selection of crafted beers. Unfortunately, they only have a beer/wine selection right now(with some sake-inspired drinks). Must meet: Cara/Kara was extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable. And the bartender/server guy was just as enthusiastic and eager to please.

I had picked up a voucher for Mosaic awhile ago, and had the opportunity to use it for first visit on an impromptu girls’ night/dinner out. We all loved it. Cool location on Valley Street, in front of Rising Sun Mills. Chef/owner, Winston Guerrero, has done a really nice job integrating local artists, reclaimed wood, exposed brick, and South & Central American culture in the aesthetics of the indoors — a bit brightly lit, but classy and relaxed. I have a few friends who have hosted group events or fundraisers here, but I had never been able to go. We were able to enjoy the last days of summer, sitting outside on the patio next to a vegetable garden and under an askew wooden pergola. We enjoyed a split app of Fugazzetta Tropical– phenomenal pizza-like dish. I had the Asopao which was hands down the best paella I’ve had. Beautifully cooked and presented. The four of us also split two bottles of wine, nice selection reasonably priced($ 20s-30s, mostly). Entrees are priced between $ 20 – 25, which for the quality I feel is reasonable. They are a bit off the ‘traditional’ foodie-path, but maybe patrons of the West End and Hill will realize Broadway intersects Valley(just blocks from Mosaic!) and it isn’t all that far from the beaten’ path…

I’ve been meaning to try Mosaic ever since I saw the great write up they got in Providence Monthly a while back. Last night seemed like the perfect opportunity, so I called ahead and made a reservation for two of us to sit outside on the patio. When we arrived at 9, we were promptly seated outside among the twinkling Christmas lights, which was a nice touch. I was so surprised to find that we were the only ones taking advantage of the alfresco dining on such a beautiful evening. I also became a little worried that being the only table would influence the quality of service, but it was quite the opposite. Our waitress was attentive and friendly throughout the evening – I never felt like we were a burden for sitting outside. I started off with a champagne cocktail, which had muddled fresh raspberries and pineapple(very light and refreshing) and my boyfriend had a Pacifico. They don’t have a full bar, but do offer a wide selection of craft beers, as well as sangria and sake drinks. The waitress brought out a plate of freshly baked cornbread which was served with a jalepeno-honey butter. The cornbread was warm and sweet, but the butter had a great kick to it. I could have eaten more of that! Then, the chef sent out an amuse bouche of mushroom strudel. I’m not a huge fan of mushrooms, but this dish had a lot of flavor, the pastry was light and buttery, and there was a yummy, tangy melted cheese on top(gruyère perhaps?). It was a delicious bite of food. Our appetizers arrived shortly after. Everything on the small-plates menu looked so good that I probably could have made a meal out of a few of them. I definitely want to go back and sample more! The dishes come from all over Central and South America, some of which I’d never even heard of before(always intriguing!). I decided on the grilled shrimp, which were marinated in cumin and lime juice, skewered on pieces of sugar cane, and grilled. They were served on top of a crispy corn cake with a creamy sauce. The plate had four huge shrimp and they were some of the most flavorful I’ve ever tasted. This dish was probably the highlight of the night for me. The other appetizer was a pupusa, which was stuffed with pulled pork and served with a sweet and tangy slaw on top. This was also a great mix of flavors and textures. The pulled pork was smoky, but not too vinegary, which I liked. I had to sneak several forkfuls from my boyfriend’s plate! Our entrees were impressive as well. I had the strip steak served with roasted potatoes and topped with chimichurri sauce and a fried egg. The chimichurri was a fresh complement to the char on the steak. I ordered the steak medium, and it arrived cut into two large pieces, one of which was perfectly medium and the other was slightly more well done. The potatoes were crispy, but I think I would have preferred some sweet plantains with it(just a personal preference). Other than that, it was a very well-executed dish. After all, anything topped with a fried egg is stellar in my book! My boyfriend had the seafood stew, which came with shrimp, scallops, clams, chourizo, and chicken breast all served on top of rice cooked in a seafood broth. From the menu description, I expected the dish to come in a bowl with some of the seafood stock, but it all arrived on a plate. No big deal. He enjoyed everything about the dish. We were too full to try dessert, but I’ve heard they have a good sampler plate of goodies. I can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu. It’s worth calling ahead to reserve a table. They had live music going on inside the dining room, which seems pretty standard on a Saturday. They also offer a Sunday family-style roasted chicken brunch. It’s important to note that the restaurant does not accept Groupon or any restaurant coupons on Friday and Saturday nights. I imagine weeknights must get pretty busy with people redeeming their Groupons. Give Mosaic a try, you will not be disappointed!

Went to Mosaic for dinner tonight after seeing a review in Providence Monthly. From the appetizers to the entrée and then the dessert, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. It offers a lot of South American dishes with a sophisticated touch, something I haven’t seen in Providence. I had the empanada for an appetizer and a sirloin topped with chimichurri sauce and pear salad for the entrée. We are definitely returning in the future. Also recommend trying out the coupon on . Unfortunately the coupon is not valid on Saturdays, but the meal was well worth it.

Stumbled upon this place on would have never known that it existed since signage from the street is not great. The place was quiet when we went late one Thursday night. Service was great and they were willing to make suggestions and answer questions about their menu. While we waited for our entrees, the manager brought out a few different complimentary items to try. Everything that they brought out was delicious! For my entrée I ordered pollo con mole and it too was an excellent choice. The place is a bit drafty in the winter, if you sit by the windows, so bring a coat!

We went here last Saturday for a friend’s birthday dinner. It was a large group — probably 18 of us. Almost everyone go there at 7pm with a few people trickling in at 7:30pm and 8pm. They took the drink orders pretty soon after we got there but didn’t take our food orders until 90 mins after we got there! Seriously I think we ordered food at 8:30pm. I wanted to order an appetizer but the waitress said she was bringing out everything at once. Well that kind of defeated the purpose of the appetizer. So I just ordered an entrée. Except the entrée didn’t come for another 90 mins. Yes people got there at 7pm, but didn’t get their food until 9:45PM. That’s 2 hours and 45 mins later. Horrible!!! Why couldn’t we have gotten appetizers then? At least something to hold us over. The service was nice — I did like our waitress and she was very helpful about the menu items and ingredients. I asked her if the vegetarian entrée was vegan and she went and checked and said yes. I wanted to get the veggie appetizer(veg ceviche with hearts of palm — yum!) but didn’t since she said she would bring it out with my entrée. My dish was bleh. I mean thank you so much for having a vegan entrée, but to charge me $ 17 for a vegetarian dish that consisted of a bean cake on top of dirty rice. That dish probably cost the restaurant maybe $ 1.00 to make and yet they charged me $ 17. There were no vegetables, no colors to my plate, just white, tan, and black. A little sprinkle of salsa on top — I was pretty sad. I should have just ordered the ceviche and a salad instead(which looked beautiful when it came out — my friend ordered it and I had a bite — yummy). My boyfriend got the chicken dish for $ 18 which he liked alot. Folks around us got the pork and swordfish dishes which they liked too but paid a lot more $ for. Entrees are around $ 18-$ 26 depending on what you are getting. It’s one of those place you pay a lot of $ but you only get a little bit. Too bougie for me! Since they were so slow they gave us comp appetizers — pork tacos. That was sweet for the meat eaters but what about us veggies? We’re starving by the time we get our meal. Perhaps next time think of all of us. A band started playing around 9pm which was a very good band but made it hard to have a conversation. Around 10:30 I asked for my bill and it took a while. It also had a mistake(she charged us for the fish instead of the chicken). Then we got it again and I noticed she charged me for the more expensive wine. So 3rd time’s a charm. Just be careful to look at your bill when you get it. So yeah — good food if you want to pay $$$ for not a whole lot. Seems like the appetizers and drinks are the way to go. Good for small groups but I would never bring a large group there again — even with reservations(which we had). I think next time I’d rather just do the local Mexican place, save money, get more diversity in food, and get served way faster!

Went to Mosaic for a December girls’ night out, but there we sat all dolled up and covered with our winter coats — along with most of the other diners in the restaurant. The atmosphere is open, echoey, high ceilings, which would probably feel great in the summer with the windows thrown open. Service was friendly but extremely slow though the tables were only filled at half-capacity. We were there to take our time, but this also meant that drinks and water glasses were left empty. A wine list and a few good out-of-the-box beers on tap, but not a full bar here. There was a list of «cocktails» mixed with sake. The appetizers we ordered weren’t memorable, but the dinners were enjoyed around the table and beautifully presented. I had a great snapper dish. But prices were high — I think my meal was $ 26 or $ 28. Great to see this place in Olneyville though I wouldn’t return. There was a magazine rack in the single women’s restroom with Martha Stewart Living… odd.

no idea what the other reviewers are talking about… or maybe the restaurant management cared more a few months ago when the place first opened… but i was NOT impressed when i ate at mosaic last night. staff were friendly enough and food was okay, but here are the things we had a problem with: 1) no drink service for a while, and we had to ask for water 2) cold to lukewarm food… and then we were charged for extra portions after the waitress offered to replace parts of the meal! 3) wrong charges on our bill 4) despite the menu saying gratuity would be added for parties of eight or more, we were charged 20% for a party of seven after explaining all of the above to the manager, he proceeded to argue with us instead of exhibiting any kind of customer service — huh?! maybe we shouldn’t expect any sort of service anymore these days, given it’s pretty much a lost art now, but when your business depends on tipping, word-of-mouth, etc. i’m a bit surprised with the attitude taken. bottom line — save your money and go elsewhere for better food and waaaay better service!

Oh man! I fell in love with this place! It really is a true find… I almost didnt want to share, but it’s just too good for people not to know about it. I went on a slow night just to enjoy a glass of vino check it out… I am so glad I did. They serve a desert platter that was to die for!(Yes, I totally ordered desert first) They had a homemade coconut ice cream with hints of flavor that I couldn’t place. There was also a peach cobbler(yum), a chocolate mousse in a puff pastry with mango(yes — mango) bits on top. The show-stopper for me was deff the fried cheesecake. It was a tortilla with cheesecake filling(does it get any better… yes), the filling had pistachios and mago and was served over a straberry glaze and a fresh strawberry on top.(wicked yum) I was also lucky enough to taste the Asopao — the chef did a reat job with the consistency of the rice and a great belnd of flavors. It was caribbean and Spanish with a fantastic aroma. I have no idea what spices were used, but it was a fab combination. One of the other patrons was having the Ajiaco soup… it smelled delicious and he assured me it tasted better than it smelled.(I shall have to go back and taste it for myself) They have a good selection of beers and one of the owners, Winston, is more than happy to recommend something for you. I had a banana beer with my dessert plate — I would have never tried it if not for him — the flavors complimented each other perfectly. Mosaic is also open for Lunch and Brunch… be sure to take advantage of this spectacular restaurant, it’s the perfect place for an after-work beverage, lunch with friends/clients, dinner, drinks or just a good espresso. Go and enjoy… you’ll thank me ;)

Wow! I had a fantastic dinner at Mosaic — it’s not officially open until September(though they are open unofficially), and I stumbled upon it by ‘divine providence.’ Mosaic is a Latin American bistro and I think it will give the nearby Cuban Revolution a run for its money. Each menu item lists its components as well as its country/region of inspiration. They have a beer/wine list(reasonably priced) which we did not take advantage of on this visit; they seem to have a great selection of domestics as well as some Latin American selections I hadn’t seen before. The place is a little hard to find(they are supposed to be getting a sign/awning in the next two weeks) — it’s within the Rising Sun Mills complex. The space is tastefully minimal with pleasant ambiance, and the staff is SO friendly. The manager, Eduardo, is extremely hospitable and so pleasant, and really gave us a great dining experience. The chef started us off with a complimentary demitasse of a chicken-potato-corn soup that was delicious and had a hint of thyme. We then split two appetizers: ‘Cammarones(from the Caribbean),’ marinated shrimp on a skewer with ginger, cumin, and lime mojo on top of a corn cake(delicious) and Calamares(from Sonara Mexico), calimari with marinated pepperoncini, chorizo, and guaymas sauce. The calamari really stole the show — they were tender, perfectly fried, and the sauce was excellent! The addition of the chorizo sausage with the calamari provided an extra depth of flavor to the dish and I highly recommend ordering them. Next, I ordered the ‘Fugazzeta Tropical(from Argentina)’ as an entrée, which the manager told us was basically a Latin American version of pizza, with mint pesto, arugula, smoked mango, Serrano ham, mozzarella, and goat cheese. This was the most impressive dish of all that I tried — it was beyond pizza! Yummy thin crust, excellent seasoning, and the mango/ham flavor combo was really unexpected and very palate-pleasing. It was a pretty large 10−12″ pie, at a very reasonable $ 11. The portions we had were large and we were pretty stuffed at the end of the meal. The ingredients are clearly fresh and of great quality, and our food came to the table quickly. The chef himself came out to introduce the dishes, and we really appreciated the attentive service. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and the great service: $ 7 – 11 for the appetizers, $ 8 – 10 for the burger/sandwiches, $ 11 – 20 for the entrees. No dessert menu, but that might be forthcoming. I’m really impressed by the food and service here, and a $ 48 dinner for two people is more than reasonable for such an excellent meal. I’m looking forward to the official opening of Mosaic!
