When ever I’m on the East Side and need beer, I stop at Darwin’s. After today, I will no longer be a customer. This morning, the owner(George Richards) came to our local dog park. While his son harmlessly climbed one of the trees in the dog park, a dog harmlessly barked at him. George not only threw hot coffee on the dog, he also proceeded to yell and swear at the dog owner. It took 3 people to get him to leave. I was/still am in shock and bummed out that he is such an aggressive and angry person. He seemed so witty and nice in store. Please don’t come back to the dog park and we won’t come to your liquor store. Promise!

Really great place. One of the nicest guys in Providence runs this store. If he doesn’t have the drink you want, he will order it for you. Good selection of beer and wine, with any liquor you want. GOHERE.

This place is actually the worst business I’ve been to in Providence. The cashiers and the owner are incredibly condescending. The owner always recommends the worst drinks to me that he is clearly looking to just get rid of, and is incredibly unprofessional. The title of their tip jar will make any woman and most people uncomfortable. Save your money and head over to any of the other wonderful liquor stores in Providence.

This place is small and charming. And the owner is very kind. Great place! Has some Korean liquor too!

This is an ok store in a good location. They had a good beer selection. There was a man and a woman at the front counter, not sure if it was the owner or not. They were drinking wine and playing a computer game. Friendly yes, but not all customers want to hear an innapropriate story about a bad customer you had. Really random and just made us feel uncomfortable. Not the best experience. There is another liquor store just down the block and I’ve always had a good experience there.

I dig the vibe that’s spun in this little closet of libations. Tucked right up next to the Benefit St. Juice bar, walking distance from both Wickenden and College Hill, Darwin provides a more petite, yet refreshing alternative to some of the more financially demanding booze emporiums on the ol’ Mt. College spread. I say closet because I feel like this place looks exactly as my dream closet would if I owned an older wooden house/had any form of financial stability. Quite thin on the entrance and throughout, but the walls are stacked to the ceiling with shelves upon shelves of both fermented and distilled fun. Despite being small, Darwin makes lemonade with its given real estate and packs quite a competitive selection. Oh, and if you’re in the market for a 30 rack, be sure to go consult the ‘Christopher Walk-in’ in the back. Quite possibly my favorite thing about this place is the ID scan system. I won’t spoil the surprise, but Family Guy fans will appreciate. There’s even a special sound that makes getting busted with a fake ID a more enjoyable process(until I imagine you get thrown to the curb). Coupled with awesomely personable service, Darwin’s my all-in-all go-to for a change of pace.

Super nice owner helped me pick out just the right liquor for a hot toddy. He started by offering me a cough drop, and then let me sample a few things until I settled on a nice bottle of honey flavored whiskey. And then told me a few great stories before check out, told me to feel better and come back soon. I really like that he helped me to pick out just the right sized bottle as opposed to trying to sell me the most expensive thing possible. I will definitely be back

George is great, he won’t let you leave with a bad bottle of anything and prices are great. I wish there was a larger selection, though!

Cute lil’ liquor store in the heart of benefit. I was only going in for beer so did not pay attention to the wine or liquor sections. It’s a small joint but they have really good selections in their cooler. Some unique beers– about 5 – 6 arrogant bastard varieties, lagunitas and 6 point. I was hoping for some more local brews but there were none in the coolers, can’t say they weren’t on the floor. I’d go back just for the customer service :) And remember to make a donation to the kitty fund!

The best liquor store on college hill. George is an honest guy and won’t let you walk out of the store with a bad bottle of anything! Better prices than other stores in the area, nice beer selection, and even some inexpensive, decent wines.

Darwin is the perfect place to grab a bottle of wine before hit up one of the BYOB’s on Wickenden. They have a great variety of all your beer, wine and liquor, the prices are great, and the owner is super friendly. Definitely someplace worth stopping in.

First of all Darwin is in the perfect location right on Benefit Street. Also, every time I have been, which hasn’t been too often, I’m always greeted. It’s not the boring attempt to «greet the customer» but a sincere hello and a legitimate attempt to help the customer find what they want. The selection is ample for such a small establishment and if you’re into beer, this is your place. Darwin will have my business until I’m out of college and truly buckle down.

my favorite liquor store in the college hill area in Providence. The owner(I think he was the owner) was super friendly and was more than willing to educate me on the basics of cognac and brandy. The first time I went there he even poured a cup of Hennessey for me to sample see if I like it. Also I noticed the prices are cheaper than campus wine and High Spirits Liquors.

We came upon Darwin on New Year’s Eve when another establishment close by was closed. It was winter, extremely cold, and snowing; it was a pleasant surprise to be greeted by a warm fire(fireplace is in the front area). The space is small and cozy, but they have a good selection of beer(any establishment that carries Franziskaner is OK with me!), wine, and spirits(wine and beer were away from the fire), and a friendly owner. You can be sure to find something you’ll like at Darwin, and at a good price; stop in when you have a chance, and make it your first and only stop!
