Came here for the first time and it was okay. Fried pickles were delish, honestly one of the best I’ve had in a while, but everything else from then on was okay. I’m not sure if maybe we caught the kitchen on a bad day or something but my wings were dry and my boyfriend’s burger was way more well done than he liked(a little burned). Everything else was great though, for example, the cocktail… Something with Monkeys? Monkey punch? No. The cocktail didn’t have monkeys in it or come with one. But it was great regardless! Service was good, we could tell she was the only server working but she did a great job waiting on everyone. Ambiance was great, pretty hip. My boyfriend loved that he got to watch the basketball game while I was jamming to the music. Definitely not a place for kids with the music they play. And the only type of music they play is the only kind I listen to, purely explicit. We’ll be back to try it again for food, but for now it’s a great place to just hang out with friends at the bar and drink.

Decent place. Late lunch on a Saturday, family friendly on the restaurant side(there were 2 families with little kids when we got there). Server was friendly, buffalo chicken pizza was really tasty. Parking was easy.

My husband works a few miles from Brass Monkey so it is safe to say this is his local bar. Him and his coworkers often stop by for lunch or an after work beer. Since he is always mentioning the brass monkey I decided to look this place up and see what their menu had to offer. I was very happy when I saw they had Cuban sandwich in their menu. With this in mind we set out to go there for our cheat meal. We went on a Sunday at around noon and the place was completely empty which was fine with us. Let’s start with the service. The service was great and the waitress made conversation wit us and was very attentive. It did help that my husband already knew her. Now the food; I was very very disappointed with my Cuban. It was cold, the cheese was hardly melted and it just did not taste good. My husband got the Italian Grinder and he liked it. He usually gets the wings when ever he goes with his coworkers and he says they are really good. Not many non-Hispanic restaurants can pull off a good authentic Cuban. I will be back eventually and when I do I will give something else on the menu a try.

Love this place. Great atmosphere and awesome food. They also have a great draft beer selection. Comfortable seating either at the bar or table and good for couples or large groups. Try the beer battered cod bites –OMG delicious!!!

Great food and drinks that are always consistent! They offer daily specials that are very creative like the chicken and waffle sliders, yes chicken and waffle sliders! Very friendly staff that always provides great service with a smile. Also a great spot to kick back for your favorite sporting events. A great time, every time!

I pass this place every day on my way to school. Finally tried it with some friends. I will probably never come back. Service was slow and mediocre. The place wasn’t even busy and our food and drinks took way too long. The drinks were so bad I couldn’t even finish it. The grilled cheeses were decent. The only thing I would order again were the fries. The place looks so nice and cute on the outside but when you walk in it looks out dated and run down. Not impressed.

Staff was friendly and attentive. Good: Mozarella balls were tasty as long as you eat them hot, once cold a little watery? Shrimp scampi was excellent Con: Nachos came out in big pile and looked good but the meat and cheese, what there was of it was all on the top. Once you got to the middle no cheeese and no meat, very empty. Drinks were good, will go back again.

Went here on a sat night. Staff was very nice. Me and a few friends had found them on instagram and wanted to try a few of the foods they had posted photos of. Most of the stuff we wanted to order was no longer on the menu(i guess they change it frequently) but there was no issue. We got to order it anyway. Food was very good. Probably the best mac and cheese ive ever had.(Mac and cheese with jalapeños and bacon)

So far, so good! Went to brass monkey on a night when the patriots played on a Sunday(they lost), and the place was completely packed. There were plenty of TVs there. HUGETVS. So if you needed to peak at the game, you’re a glance away. The food was very unique different. They do Thursday wing days, ½ price glasses of wine night, and soul food Sunday. I had twenty peices of the Parmesan garlic wings –DEVOURED. And I also had the chicken and waffle; which was delicious. The waffle was hard yet soft inside and the grits that held the chicken in between was savory. It was amazing. Let the picture speak for itself You’ll definitely be seeing me there to. Oh and the staff was amazing. Had not one, but two great waitresses. The hostess greeted us and accommodated to our party number change. Yum all around.

This is my third time going to brass monkey and each time I’m more and more impressed by the whole set up. From the second you walk in the atmosphere is refreshing it’s not too fancy but also not casual either I believe it’s the perfect balance which most restaurants lack. The food is absolutely incredible and at Brass Monkey they offer so much more than your average restaurant. I like their touch of southern food mixed with your regular orders such as burgers. The service is amazing as well. The waiters and waitresses all have warm personalities and great senses of humor. amazing food, great vibes and dope service what more can you ask for? I recommend brass monkey to anyone.

Anything good about this place is left over from the Barstow. Which is like some of the décor and the holders for the drink menu. Been here twice now. Both times, the service was crappy. The waitresses are on their phones, inattentive, and sacrifice good service for personal drama. Even though the host(who I think was also the bartender despite it being busy) told us to sit anywhere, I had to go up to him and confirm our seat was acceptable because no one had come to serve us. The water glasses are cheap plastic cups, even in the sit-down, more formal area. Table was so busted tonight, we moved ourselves. Tonight we sat in the middle of the restaurant where music from Paint Night was blaring from one side, the music of the bar was blaring from the other, and the sports fans at the bar were screaming. Saying the ambiance is «hipster» is incredibly misleading. Sports bar is probably the closest. I also noticed that they didn’t seem to have a system for the people at Paint Night. People would just come out of the room and hunt down a random waitress to try to order a drink. Their food is really unoriginal and boring. I got the edamame(which has some stupid anglo-ized name) and it was covered in this chili oil that was so greasy, it made in impossible to eat. Beer menu is boring and kegs are often kicked. I had a decent cocktail once. People seem to like this place, I guess. The signature drink is a 40 with some orange juice in it served in a paper bag. If that seems awesome to you, go for it. But if you are looking for the DELICIOUS and original menu, classy ambiance, and interesting and professional staff that you came to expect from the Barstow in its glory days, you’re going to be extremely disappointed.

Clearly the new owners have sorted out the issues the last owners couldn’t. Food isn’t quite as eclectic but the wings were very good, and the theme is definitely«Sports Bar». Also the beer selection is interesting enough for the snobs like me(Two Roads, Founders, Flying Jenny, etc.) and the prices are reasonable(Captain’s Daughter for $ 5.50, severed in a proper pint). The selfish me would love a complete craft beer take-over, but the mixed crowed tells me they have the balance right.

The Brass Monkey is the newest incarnation of a spot on Allens Ave that has changed frequently since I first moved to Providence several years ago. Brass Monkey seems like it may have staying power, as it was pretty busy on the Friday night that I dined in. It was a nice Autumn night and I was headed to the Jack-O-Lantern spectacular. This seemed like a good spot, as it is super close to the Roger Williams park. The beer list is pretty solid, but unfortunately the only pumpkin beer they had at the time(I was getting in the spirit) was a pumpkin cider. I ended up have a Guinness/cider mix that was ok. Nothing about the menu really popped out to me but I ended up going with a fancy grilled cheese. It was pretty good and I had it with a nice mixed green salad. My husband enjoyed his meal as well. The bar has sort of an interesting, sports bar meets diner, sort of feel. Our server was very friendly and it wasn’t too loud. It wasn’t the best meal I’ve ever had but I would stop by again if I’m in the area.

Love Brass Monkey! Discovered it a little over a year ago, this is now my «go-to» whenever I have guests or I can’t decide what I’m in the mood for. Best part is there delicious, fresh food comes at reasonable prices! Brass Monkey always has new daily specials. Most times the specials list has at least 2 – 3 meals that I can’t decide between. The regular menu has a good variety of delicious selections itself. One favorite on the regular menu: blackened fish sandwich– perfectly cooked, decent sized cod covered in a moderately spicy blackened seasoning. Choice of regular fries, sweet potato fries, Cajun fries. I’m picky about fries, they do them right here! From the appetizers, the sautéed garlic shrimp is a must.(Although! I will admit this is one dish that has NOT been consistent since the first time I ordered it and fell in love. I tagged an image 9 months ago of it and it was much more cheesy and thick and perfect than every time I’ve ordered it since. I actually do order this app every time I go and apparently each cook prepares it different. Sometimes more brothy, more garlicky, more beer taste, never the same. Which is sad because the first time-more cheesy, thick & perfect blend of ingredients– was my favorite! I guess I keep ordering hoping to get it on the right day, but it’s still delicious.) Other than this, they do wings right. $ 0.35 special on Wednesdays with a variety of flavors to choose from. Lemon pepper and BBQ are yum. If you order the roasted chicken, they will charge you extra(annoying) if you ask for more gravy, which is usually needed. They make it from scratch with the chicken au jus. I’m usually too full to order dessert but their dessert menu is also tempting, with daily specials as well! I am always satisfied with this place. Only complaints worth mentioning is the service can be slow. You can tell some of the specials are cooked to order and take longer. Some of the servers are less attentive– but I attribute this to them probably being part-time working college students. Parking is mostly easy except on game nights, the place is packed! In the summer they have outside seating which can help!

I am a positive person. But this place *literally* made me lose my appetite. Our server perhaps needed a bit more training. She never seemed to know which beers were available on tap, which legs had kicked, or which had been replaced. That is a bit of a concern for a place that is categorized as «gastropub.» Ordered the sautéed shrimp as an appetizer to share at the table, and a burger as my main dish. After waiting a *long* time for the shrimp, I figured that our server just forgot to put it in. No big deal, it happens, and I was ready to eat my burger. However, the shrimp came out with the main courses… and when we pointed this out to our server, she just said«sorry!» ran away, and did not come back to ask us how our meal was until 15 minutes later. This was unfortunate, because my burger that I was looking forward to was ice cold, and it would’ve been nice to get it heated before eating it. On the positive side, a friend at the table ordered the wings, and they were good(with the buffalo sauce that is). Advice: unless you’re dying of hunger, don’t bother.

I was definitely impressed from just 1 trip. It’s possible they may have the best wings in RI but my search is never ending! I popped in with my 17 year old daughter on a Thursday absolutely starving. Lucky for me it was 35 cent wing night! The only catch being no take home & they’ll charge you full price if you don’t eat them all. Not a problem for a fattie like me! Brass Monkey gets bonus points for not only having lemon pepper on the menu but for having the best damn lemon pepper wings I’ve had in a while. There are 6 other flavors(Buffalo, BBQ, Honey Mustard, Bourbon, Teriyaki & Garlic Parm) which is a good sign. Do a few flavors & do them well I say. And the wings were awesome. I really liked the Bourbon &BBQ. Good size & meaty. Flavors were spot on: not too sweet or drowning in sauce. I polished them off with a ‘Gansett draft. I also split some fries & the special Mac ‘N Cheese with my daughter. I liked the bacon & jalapeño peppers in the mac ‘n cheese but it was a little runny. Still pretty damn tasty. The fries were fast food style but a step up in quality. It appeared to be family friendly even for a Thursday night. I only saw one child & it seemed most of the crowd was college age. I’d definitely come back with the family. They had multiple TVs on & from my seat I could watch hockey & the MLB playoffs. It must get rowdy during a Pats game. If I was in PVD more often or lived closer Brass Monkey would definitely be my go to wings spot. The deserts listed on the daily specials looked amazing too so next time I’ll try them & follow up. They’re not far off from getting a 5th star from me so probably next time!

I can’t believe I haven’t Unilocaled these guys yet. This is my third time here and I can’t believe it’s ONLY my third time. Let’s start with the service. Stellar!!! The kitchen staff to the wait staff… friendliest folk and different people each time. Except is it the owner I see every time? I assume the owner but regardless, friendly guy and always out and around and completely approachable. I think that the fact that my boyfriend asked when he made mention that the chicken and waffles were awesome last time we came for Soul Food Sunday he was told, «You want chicken and waffles? We can make that for you.» Not Sunday, not on the menu but heck, they made it for him simply because they could. I think that’s awesome service. Moving onto the food; drool worthy, plentiful and not overpriced. I really can’t find the words to describe how amazing it tastes. I’ll drop some pictures and that’s all I’ll need for your mouth to automatically start watering. Perfection all around. Drinks are hand poured, no skimping on the rum and no overpowering, my cider from the tap was perfectly cold… noms. I’m currently going home to take a nap. I hope you enjoy this place as much as we do.

It really pains me to not be able to write a five star review on this place. I went here on recommendation from a fellow foodie who is always spot on. She raved about the bacon wrapped meatloaf and said it was for sure a must have. So four of us went last night. The parking lot is a good size so we parked no problem. It’s a decent sized place so we had plenty of seating. When we got there it was pretty quiet but by about eight it Got packed. That may be the reason for the service. I won’t disclose the servers name but service is the Problem here. Two of us are big craft beer lovers and if you pay attention to us we will probably rack up a pretty decent sized bill. We were not given the chance. Our bill was 60.00 for four of us. It could have easily doubled. We can all easily down three or more drinks and we had five between the four of us. We asked for water three times before she remembered. I had one beer and wanted more so asked for the beer menu back. I had to again ask three times for it. When I finally got it I picked Out my next beer But she never came back. I had to ask for my salad dressing three times also. She remembered when I had just finished my Last bite. My friend ordered poutine fries and was still hungry so was going To order more food but she never came back. When she finally came back with the water dressing and beer menu we had already waited a while and were over it. Just wanted the bill. It took quite a while for it to come and after we got it she was no where to be found. We went To The hostess table to ask someone to take our payment. I’m not sure if she was new or maybe they were short handed that night but it just wasn’t a great experience. Besides the inattentive service I have to say the food was really good. The craft beer menu is great. I am hoping it was just an off night and will revisit in the future and will hopefully have a five star experience next time.

Our experience wasn’t just standard, it was definitively not awesome. The food had zero heart — we tried the tandoori and buffalo chicken sandwiches — the bread, the fries, the sauce on the chicken. It made me wonder if they were actually cooking anything in the kitchen or just taking it out of packages. Our server appeared to be 17 and seemed annoyed at requests for additional water, napkins or ketchup. The space was teaming with a mid-20s crowd roaring over a soccer match. Cheers to all the TVs — a sports bar is a beautiful thing. Except I don’t think they’re trying to be a sports bar. Yay for fun in bars. Nay for mediocrity.

Pretty Impressed A couple of Friday’s ago, I saw this place on Unilocal and said to myself, let’s give it a try. I am so glad I did. The location has turned over a few times but this concept is a winner. Super friendly group of owners and servers with quality food and drink at an affordable price. The building looks like it used be a chain restaurant, but they have done a nice job cutting the restaurant in two making it good for both groups of people(sit down restaurant goers and bar people like myself). The bar area is a bit louder and livelier. Now the Food: Pork Belly App Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf Turkey Dip All items were delicious, the key here is the Turkey Dip. Who would have thought, why haven’t I seen this sandwich before? Great idea. If your getting out of work in Providence and want to goto a place with plenty of free parking, great food, and happening atmosphere, I would strongly suggest The Monkey. A winner! Thanks

I wanted to go somewhere different especially for the superbowl … a friend recommended the brass monkey and that we had to go to the brass room … and here are my thoughts AWESOME big 70inch tv with a couch right in front of it felt like i was at the 50 yard line … tvs everywhere there was no way i could have missed anything Wings– bbq wings was nice… buffalo wings was good… bourbon wings is a must try … i would stay away from the parmigian wings [its fried chicken wings with parmigian cheese tossed in] Nachos– a1 we got the Buffalo chicken nachos and the bbq chicken nachos both were cheesy and delishious. . We also got this shrimp saucey spicey thing where they give u garlic bread on the side and u dip it in and get this awesome flavorful bite of shrimp sauced up to perfection. . And the service … oh my … can i have a round of applause for julia or i think her name was julie … she went above and beyonnnnd for me and my friends.. i accidentally high fived my friend too hard and my hand was hurting after… Julie came with a bag of ice and saved the day … shes awesome the whole staff was awesome… im coming back …

I am always happy with my time at the Brass Monkey. The service is always fast and of quality and the food and drinks are always awesome! Amongst my fav’s on the menu; the FRIED pickles(yes I said FRIED pickles), the BBQ Chicken Wings and the Sweet Potato fries. I could literally eat these three things every time I go there and I don’t think I will get tired, seriously. The also make a kick a%$ Moscow Mule(w/Whiskey instead of Vodka), which I must say I drink regularly, at many places and not many can make them to my standards(call me a Mule snob) but they make it just right and they serve it in the copper mug, which I have only found at one other place in Providence, so I was impressed. Overall it is a great place, with great food and atmosphere. If your looking for a after work spot or just a place to grab food and drinks that is light and fun, then this is your spot. Oh, did I mention the music selection consists of anything from Biggie to Old School TLC, sign me up!

I have no idea what the bad reviews are about. Perhaps they hit an off night or perhaps they were just looking for something to be cranky about… who knows? What I most certainly know is this place is GREAT. This used to be the cactus grill… a dirty, broken, crap bar with mediocre food at best. These new owners totally renovated the place with a new open kitchen, new bar, gorgeous floors, outdoor patio, and a cozy private events room with a lounging area in front of the televisions. On to the menu. The prices are very reasonable. You can tell that the owners know the audience and have made some wise decisions. Everything I had was great. I’m a food snob and I loved it. I visited on a Thursday night for the 35 cent wings. This is a steal. They are jumbo, juicy, and crispy. I tried several different sauces and enjoyed the buffalo and garlic parmesan the most. The meatloaf was probably the best I’ve ever had… beef, veal, and pork are used… wrapped in bacon… served with delicious cheesy mashed potatoes, and perfectly cooked al dente green beans. There are places that have been around much longer and charge much more and can’t compete with this dish. Dessert was a warm chocolate chip bread pudding with a generous serving of vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle. The pudding was custardy in the middle and crunchy on the outside. So perfect! The service was impeccable. The hostess was warm and friendly. She allowed me to choose where I wanted to be seated(allowing for the best view of the TV). The waitress was excited about the food, giving great suggestions on some of her favorites. She was very attentive, making sure to give us refills on our drinks right away and checking to see how we were enjoying our meals. This indeed is what you call good service — it’s not hovering! All in all, great experience. You can tell these folks care about their business and I’m glad to see this building back in use. I’ll be back very soon!
