The resort is now called the ST. Regis Princeville Resort and this lounge area is still called«the living room» and has a great view of hanalei bay and sunsets. HOWEVER, they no longer serve sushi here and shouldn’t be considered a sushi bar. They do have 4 different types of bloody marys, but I only tried one them, which seemed local exotic. It had organic ocean vodka, clamato, pepper, celery salt, and some tabasco, all mixed and served in a glass lined with natural hawaiian salt. Since they do not serve sushi anymore, we decided to order from the appetizer menu. We ordered the ahi burger, ahi tartar and chicken samosas. the burger was alright, a bit salty for our taste. Ahi Tartar was pretty good though. My favorite was the chicken samosas though my wife would say the tartar was better. We sat outside to view the sunset, and just after we were served our food, we were greeted by some local Hawaiian mosquitos. they were attracted to the food, so we ended up moving indoors to the loungy chairs and tables, which was a good move on our part as they had 3 local Hawaiian guys playing songs and singing which was really cool. I think they were my highlight for the night. overall the scenic view and atmosphere, is definitely 5 stars. especially the staff which was very helpful and friendly. our server was great, even the valet guys were awesome. But the food was ok, and the price was a bit spendy for my taste. 3.5(+1 for the live music)

Spectacular view. And… uh, well… spectacular view. It’s an ever-so-slightly cheesy, Disney/Vegasesque space — envision oversized and fairly lavish décor, but a bit dated and homogenized feeling. Our cocktail waitress was pleasant. Food and cocktails were mediocre, and I had to go search for soy sauce to accompany our sashimi. Pleasant sake… much better than the cloying specialty drinks. All in all? If you’re staying nearby, I recommend you go, but stick with sake, beer, or simple mixed drinks, and get there early enough to nab a window seat to watch the sunset. Don’t expect astonishing food or mixology — but the view will kick your ass.

The Livingroom is a very decent location with an awesome awesome view! If you can get past that everything is a bit old fashioned looking and fancier appearing that it is, you can have a good time at the Livingroom. Drink service is at 5:00pm and food service at 5:30pm. My boyfriend and I waited patiently at a table with a view for it to turn 5:00pm on a Friday afternoon. They do have a dress code of long shorts and shirt, luckily we both were in compliance. Our server was very friendly and got our drinks and Oriental chex mix to us quickly. I ordered the lava flow which is a piña colada with a strawberry fruit swirl. It was delicious – not too sweet and a perfect blend of the two flavors. On the weak side in terms of alcohol content, but that is to be expected with these fruity drinks. The pineapple wedge donned a cherry on top, no tiny umbrella here. Definitely enjoyable enough to warrant a second round! My boyfriend ordered a coconut brewed beer that came in a can and accompanied with a frosted pint glass. It was enjoyable and interesting enough… a porter style beer that made it acceptable to be served in a can. For his second drink he had a macadamia nut and coconut liquor and pineapple juice concoction. Very interesting with the macadamia nut taste very much so present but not overwhelmingly so. If it were me, I probably would have had half of it and been sick of the taste. When it was 5:25pm and our second round arrived, our server asked if wanted food and while it was a tad early she’d take our order and get it in right away. Nice! We just wanted a little something to nibble on and ordered the chicken cashew egg rolls. Nothing to sing about and the sauce what appeared like banana catsup really saved the egg roll. The place looks pretentious, but in the end the service is awesome and the vibe not so stuffy. The ocean view is awesome… go during sunset and probably even more priceless.

Of course the Living Room has all the makings to be one of the best 5-star spots for drinks and a view in all of Kauai. But sometimes the people get in the way of natural success. Let’s see … while I was writing a Unilocal review earlier, I heard one server being rude to a guest that had been there the last three nights. It was not necessary and the guest and I were floored by his attitude. On another occasion, I heard one of the servers mocking a customer while they were out of earshot and I thought this was extremely rude and uncalled for. Don’t they know where they are? Maybe not. When you work for tips, it pays to be nice … especially if the drinks are expensive and the food is not that great.

We stopped at the Princeville Hotel bar for drinks & the sunset, before moving on to our dinner reservations in Hanalei. The bartender was a little unfriendly at first(and we had left our IDs in our day pack in the car, so I had to walk back up the hill and get them for him – we are 25&26, and clearly over 21 – but, I digress), but he seemed to warm up… perhaps as we began to order sushi, and it became clear that we WEREN’T just two young immature spring breakers – we are mature and appreciate a nice place when we see it. We sat on the end of the bar with the sushi bar, and as we watched yummy rolls and nigiri go out to other tables, we finally couldn’t stand it anymore. We tried the Hanalei roll, which we polished off rather quickly… and then on to yellowtail nigiri, which was divine! We should have stopped there, but we had one more, the yellowtail roll. That one was fine, though I wouldn’t order it again – I’d just get another yellowtail nigiri! I think the sushi chef’s name was Ronny(the slightly annoying«local» sitting a couple seats away from us kept talking to him – and us a little – as he continued drinking… our unfriendly-at-first bartender told us if he got to be too much he would have him move, but he was harmless), and he was modest but friendly. Our drinks were tasty, but I can’t remember the names. I had a blended drink with champagne… and my friend had a citrus-y martini. The sunset was beautiful, and there was even a little musical & story-telling performance as soon as the sun set. Unfortunately we had to leave before she was finished to get to our reservation, but next time I will DEFINITELY go back for every sunset, if I can! Only –1 star because of the unfriendly service we recieved at first. By the end, we were quite happy!

Excellent place to sit to watch the sunset, direct western view toward Na Pali. Expensive drinks but good bar. Note that all outdoor tables are directly in the sun, however, so if you’ve already had too much sun that day, you can sit indoors. Still have the view, but not as dramatic.

This is a bar at the Princeville Hotel. You don’t need reservations. They do have a bar menu so you can also order food. The sushi is OK. The key here is to get there at least one half hour before sunset. Who cares about the price of the food and drinks when you can experience a sunset like that???
