We drove down from Lawrence for a Valentine’s Day adventure – well worth the trip! We had the smoked pork chop and sirloin steak – both perfectly grilled. There are tons of side dishes to choose from – everything from home made breaded okra to mac and cheese. The manager, Aaron, told me that my pork chop was from a ranch that was less than a mile away – can’t get any closer farm to table relationship than that, pardner. Take notice of the brands burned into the north wall because they are from the local ranchers who sell to the restaurant. A good meal was had by all – check before you drive too far, they have limited hours.

Great food and service. Wish it was closer. Would go frequently. The chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy were awesome! Already trying to figure out when I can go again. All desserts are homemade.

(I am a previous employee but still a loyal customer) The Brand N Iron is a classic dive– in fact, I’ve submitted it many times to be featured on «Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives»! If you want classic home-cooked comfort food or a damn-good burger, this is where you go. If you want super cheap margaritas and Mexican food just like your mom would make, this is where you go on Wednesday nights. If you want local staff and owners that you’re probably somehow distantly related to, that will be helpful and kind, yet not take any crap, this is where you go. If you want to enjoy your dinner, drinks, or even the«big game», or play a round of pool, this is where you go. Your food will be hot, fresh, delicious, fairly-priced, and served in generous portions. The pie is locally made fresh, the meat is locally raised and processed– in fact you can often find the farmers and ranchers there eating!

In from out of town on a Wednesday night and it was Taco /Mexican food night. We got the last table and the staff was courteous and very quick. Food was good and very inexpensive. Will definitely go back next time we are in the area.

I don’t mean this in an offensive way, I actually mean it in an endearing way: this is a total redneck bar. It was crowded, noisy, and rowdy. But rowdy in a friendly sort of way. We did see one customer kicked out and one near-fight, but nothing ended up coming of that. The staff here were very friendly and attentive. I was surprised how quickly they took care of us given the crowd. The interior space seems quite a bit smaller than it looks from the outside. There was only one pool table — there really wouldn’t be room for more. There’s just one set of restrooms and they are one-person facilities. That really surprised me considering how busy this place gets, I’d think there’d be a constant line. By the way the big thing here appears to be their annual turtle race, which I just missed by a week.
