What would make an Italian originally from NYC go to a restaurant in Prestonsburg, KY called Mia Italiano? A gun stuck to my head? No, a colleague who would not eat BBQ!!! Reluctantly, I ventured to this strip mall to find a gem in this quant little town but surprisingly not for their Italian food. Last night was the grand re-opening and they switched to steak and seafood. I was able to breathe a bit better knowing that there is less chance to mess up a steak than a marinara sauce!!! A NY strip steak was served medium rare to order with a side of grilled asparagus. A side salad complimented the dish and much to my amazement the steak was delicious! A colleague order the grilled chicken and he too said it was delicious. A crab cake appetizer was tasty but had too much breading. I am quite particular with crab cakes… the crab should only barely kiss the bread filling. An improvement on this appetizer would have given this little restaurant a 5 star rating. They also make their own steak sauce which was tangy and quite tasty. Give this little place a chance if you pass through Prestonsburg. I think you will be surprised. The staff was exceptionally friendly and how could you not love a waitress who chewed gum while serving you. God bless Kentucky:)
