My kids and I stopped here one day after going to the zoo after seeing that it had great reviews. We were hot and tired, the kids had been good so they deserved a little treat. I was excited when I saw their long list of flavors. I choose a blondie brownie sundae, the boys had Oreo chocolate ice cream on cones, and my daughter had peanut butter chocolate brownie in a cup. I enjoyed tasting my daughters because it had a generous amount of peanut butter. My sundae was delicious. I’m a butterscotch and caramel lover so this was a welcome change from sundaes I normally see. I would order it again for sure. I knocked them down to 4 stars for seating. I almost went down to 3 stars because it was so inconvenient. There are NO tables even though they have ample outdoor space for them. Just a few benches directly in the sun. Impossible to eat ice cream here without it melting in the sun. Have kids? Forget about it. We sat on the ground.

I’m not a ice cream lover like my husband and kids. But when they want ice cream I always insist on Handels ice cream! It’s so delicious! The plus is, if you have kids they have a nice park right behind the building. Love this place all year around! Yum! Don’t forget to try my favorite SPOUSELIKE A HOUSE!

Handel’s Chocolate Pecan is hands down the best ice cream in Columbus. Jeni’s is good and has novel flavors, but I’ll take Handel’s over Jeni’s any day– and pay half the price. It’s not surprising that it’s been ranked one of the best ice cream shops in America by USA Today, Travel Channel, & National Geographic. Great stuff.

When we don’t feel like dropping major cash at Jeni’s we come here. On the Powell Great Ice Cream Showdown it goes like this for the best ice cream. 1. Jeni’s. 2. Handel’s. 3. Menchies 4. Graeters. 5. Cherry Berry As far as cost goes this place is the cheapest and has a more of a hometown type of feel. I almost always get the coconut crème pie, it’s just that good. The wife and kids always get something different. A couple scoops each and it’s usually less than 10. Jeni’s cost twice as much and the serve yourself places aka make your own ice cream mix can rack up some coin too. Sometimes the lines can be confusing as people just stand around, maybe some railings or something? And they definitely could use some outside napkin dispensers. The people working here just don’t understand the disasters 4 and 5 year old kids can create outside.

My brother loves Handel’s… so he insisted I try it to compare against Jeni’s. I can’t deny — I love them both. Handel’s offers some of your favorite indulgences wrapped up into ice cream. I had: Banana crème pie — banana pudding mixed into a ice cream delicacy. House with a spouse — graham cracker, ice cream They do NOT offer seating and it is literally an ice cream stand. 1) You sample, 2) you order, 3a) you sit on the outdoor bench, or 3b) you sit in the car and enjoy your ice cream. Location: at night, it can be hard to see because it sits below the road and most of the shops are closed by that time on that stretch of Olentangy so plot it on your GPS and be ready to look for it.

I’m going to differ here but it could be amended when I go back and try something else. The ice cream here is nice and smooth and subtle, not explode in your mouth full flavored like its competitors. I love the prices and the coupons that they have available readily. The flavors were just too«soft» for me. I tried the peach ice cream and the peach bits were very very tiny and again the peach flavor was soft and not full bodied. No eating inside here, strictly outside which is good if the weather cooperates. I intend on going back and trying another flavor to see if maybe it was just the one flavor I tried.

5 solid stars for the best ice cream ever! However I did debate if I should only give more since you cannot sit down and enjoy it there. They have a little walk up window where you purchase it at and then you are on your own and since it was freezing outside, we had to eat it in the car. I wish they had a little retro shop to go with their amazing ice cream, maybe in the summer you can sit outside. They have a HUGE selection of awesome flavors and since we were 3 people I at leats got to try 3 of them! ALL were amazing, and very generous scoops, we each got a single but it was 3 scoops on top of each other with a good sugar cone, I would rocommend Handles to anyone! As they advertise, they don’t scimp on anything(except for seating)! I had the coconut almond fudge ripple, loads of fresh coconut, almonds in every bite and swirls of fudge in creamy vanille ice cream. My son had the chocolate peanut butter brownie and it was all there! Tons of real brownies, swirls of peanut butter and rich chocolate ice cream. My husband enjoyed the flavor of the month deep dish caramel apple pie, a perfect combo of vanilla ice cream, swirls of caramel and real apple pie chunks! A true delight, we will be back for more in the summer!

How could a nearly 1:1 cherries-to-vanilla ice cream ratio be bad? Fantastic, creamy & less $ than Graeter’s. My pick every time.

What else can I say except that the praline pecan is awesome! Their black raspberry is pretty good too. I need to expand my taste buds and try more of their flavors. Servings on their cones are very generous and worth the wait as the lines can get pretty long sometimes. Deep dish apple pie is next on my list.

If I could only eat one type of ice cream for the rest of my life, I’d pick Handel’s chocolate malt with caramel. I’ll admit I’m a little biased. Handel’s started in Youngstown, Ohio, and since I’m Youngstown born and bred, I’m partial to Handel’s creamy concoctions and unique flavors. Everyone wins here. From chocolate marshmallow and cake batter to coconut cream pie and spouse like a house, the large variety won’t leave you disappointed. Oh, and you’ll get a great serving size for the price.

This is seriously my favorite ice creamery. They have all your favorite flavors, but also some very interesting and unique ones. They have a key lime pie ice cream, coconut cream pie, deep dish apple pie… so they really like turning pies into ice cream. Hurray for everybody because they are delicious. My favorite flavor is Spouse like a House. It has globs of peanut butter, peanut butter chips, chocolate chips, and peanut butter filled pretzels in a vanilla malt ice cream. Okay, so I will give you a chance to change your underwear after reading that. Feelin’ fresh? Good. It’s priced slightly under Graeter’s level so it’s not cheap like Dairy Queen, but it isn’t served in a crystal goblet either. They don’t have any indoor seating… just a window that hides whatever magic happens inside. There are plenty of benches to sit on plus a public park behind it which also has a playground. Nothing better than sugaring up your kids and letting them go crazy in the park. It’s usually pretty packed on a hot day and they typically have coupons in those paper mint things or entertainment book.
