Heard about Rancho through a friend and was delighted with the experience from beginning to end. Everyone on the team cares, project manager Drew, Randy and Will, are highly skilled. They strive and deliver the best customer service for home improvers, and you can tell they genuinely enjoy working together.
Other key points about the experience, highly detailed and informative. Drew and the crew are obsessed with the cosmetic appearance of the system, and it was good to watch them meticulously plan every turn of the pipe (which is ALL CONCEALED), to the placement of the inverter. They measure 3x and cut 1x, this crew is surgical! They do not cut corners, and they understand old fashion customer service creates a friendly long lasting impression. They want their workmanship to reflect many years of high quality, and that is a huge indicator of their passion. We plan to ask them to return when home batteries are readily available.
We were extremely pleased with the short turn time (though contingent on HOA, city and utility company approval/​inspections), finishing ahead of schedule.
Spoke with the larger solar companies, and those discussions were with sales reps that didn’t sound half as knowledgeable as Mike.

I’m almost at my year with my solar panels … and I’ve been making more electricity than I’m using! Mike sized the system perfectly for my house and my needs. My ‘true-​up’ period will be next month with SDGE and I expect to get a check from them that will cover one month’s solar loan payment. Best decision I made was to go solar and to use Rancho! They delivered as promised. Dealing directly with the owner Mike gave me confidence that I did not have with the company’s I got quotes from.

We are very pleased and excited with our new solar panel system. We did over a year of research and then went out to bid. Rancho Solar beat the completion on price and quality. Then the work was done and we were even happier with the installation. The workmanship is very clean and all the conduit is concealed. Several neighbors have solar panels but they have unattractive conduit, disconnects and junction boxes on sides of the house and up to the roof. We didn’t want that and from the beginning, Mike said he doesn’t do it like that. He pointed out some other areas of concern on my neighbors installations.
Our system is performing beautifully and it’s fun to monitor the performance on the internet site and phone app. We’ve had five or six electrical bills now and the system is producing more that we’re using in our home so our bills are less than $ 2/​month. Woo hoo! Our Edison bill shows us have many hours we are banking as we head into the hottest part of the year. It looks like we’ll have a net zero over 12 months and that is great.
Mike and his staff were very knowledgeable, courteous and clean. They showed up on schedule and on time, and cleaned up each day which is a big deal to us. The roofing contractor who removed and replaced the tile was also a very good craftsman and set the tile correctly. I know because I’m a certified tile roof inspector (
). Mike explained clearly how the tiles and flashings would be done correctly before I told him knew how they were supposed to be flashed :)
Every once in a while you run into a really good vendor and this is one of those. I don’t normally write reviews on Unilocal because of time expenditure, but I was inclined to do so this time so others can get what they deserve. I had Rancho Solar install a 8.1kW PV system on my house in May 2014. It has been up an running now for over 5 weeks and is performing great. How awesome is to see your electric meter running backwards?
I had gotten quotes from 4 other Solar installers and Rancho Solar was the most reasonable by a long shot. In addition, their standard pricing included removing all the roof tiles in the area where the panels are to be installed before installing the brackets. They then re-​papered, sealed, and reset the tiles (replacing any broken ones) — essentially giving you a new roof in that area and helping ensure you won’t ever need to worry about that section of roof over the lifetime of the panels. My home (and roof) is 25 years old so that was important to me. After federal tax credits, my system will pay for itself in 5 years at current electric rates (sooner if SDG&E keeps raising rates) — after that free energy for the remaining life of the panels. Now, it is fun checking the phone app every day to see how much electricity I am generating and the money I’m saving.
The owner Mike, is awesome to work with — honest, no hard sell, very informative. The installation crew were also very pleasant, courteous and professional. I highly recommend Rancho Solar.

Awesome from start to finish! Very professional, quick and thorough. I didn’t have to do a thing with the city and permits — Randy handled it all. They had my solar up and running in days, not weeks! They even referred me to a bank that approved my solar loan in 20 minutes! I would definitely recommend these guys to anyone looking to BUY solar — do not lease! Ask them — they will explain it all to you! My SDG&E bill went from over $ 300/​mo to $ 25 a month — yep, I am only paying for gas now. I even have an app on my phone that shows me how much energy my solar panels are generating each day. Call them today!

We did our due diligence when deciding on a solar company. Rancho Solar was our pick as Mike explained solar in layman’s term, followed up after his first visit, let us know what expect and when to expect it. His pricing was very competitive as well as his warranty. Installation went smoothly, his crew were polite and efficient. We placed a call to Mike during the installation to ask him a question, and he called back within minutes.
Just a few days ago Mike left a message stating he had been monitoring our solar panels and looks like everything was working properly. He uses a monitoring service that we can access anytime to see how much power our panels are producing. It’s fun to check to see the power we are producing. Better than that, is the minus bills we receive from SDG&E.

Mike G. and his staff are very professional. Out of 4 solar quotes, he was the only one to step foot on our roof to get a good assessment of solar placement and condition of the surface. He and his staff were very approachable. I felt very comfortable with them throughout the entire project. There was one missed communication about a skylight, but it was rectified right away! I bought a fixer house, dealt with many contractors and had not so favorable experience with most. I can honestly say Rancho Solar is the only contractor I would and have recommend to family, neighbors and friends. They were also the least expensive!
