Hands down… best burger EVER! The potato latkes were also amazing. My husband loved the beer selection and just overall great feel of the place! We keep going back and back!

If you are looking for a place to drink and have pub fare, then this is it! We found Schatzis Pub to be reminiscent of a busy«college» bar. Tight quarters and quite noisy… If I were 24 – 30 this would be the«go to» place. The drinks and beer selection are extensive. The food is appealing but pedestrian at best.

One of my favorite spots for beer and food! I have yet to walk out without a smile; except the day they took«bacon and eggs» off the menu. I may have wept just a bit. I highly recommend the brats! The burger is tasty too! I’m always torn between the red cabbage or the kraut, you’ll win either way. If you’re lucky enough to empty a keg you’ll get a T-shirt…and maybe a hangover.

Schatzis is a cozy and fun place where patrons can enjoy a drink, an appetizer, or a full meal. This is an excellent choice for fans of beer and other adult refreshments. I personally am not much of a beer-drinker, but I love hard ciders, and Schatzis doesn’t disappoint. I once had a spiced apple cider — infused with whole cinnamon sticks — that was sweet and heavenly. During the milder months, guests can enjoy a lovely little beer garden. Although Poughkeepsie isn’t exactly known for its greenery, the patio area behind the restaurant is very pretty and well-maintained. It’s the ideal place to enjoy a cold beverage or hot lunch. It’s also pleasantly quaint on a chilly autumn night. Some bars rest on their alcoholic laurels, so to speak. Their food can be less than fresh and flavorful. Not the case with Schatzis! All of the foods I have tried have been delicious. I love their buttery pierogies, piping hot Bavarian pretzels(perfectly paired with beer cheese for dipping), and decadent frites. Schatzis is a carnivore’s paradise — burgers, sausages, and meatballs can be found in excess, and they are all delicious — but vegetarians have more than a few options(many of the appetizers are vegetarian and are large enough to serve as a meal; the veggie reuben is also a delicious option for those looking for a meatless meal). In keeping with the restaurant’s German roots, stout cheesecake is one of the more popular dessert offerings. If you try Schatzis once, it will become one of your favorite hangouts. And if you go often enough, you can get your very own mug that they will keep at the bar for your future visits!

great burgers!!! lousy service!!! The food is undeniably tasty and somewhat innovative. But the hostess and servers have a wannabe hipsterish je-né-give-a-shit attitude about them that would be laughable in the city. Up here in a small gastropub? it’s not laughable. Just annoying and rude. The food smells much better than the waitstaff’s farts. If they ever figure that out, I may go back.

If you want the best Korean style tacos you’ve ever had in your entire existence, come here. Not only are these tacos huge, they give you four of them! I was so mad that I couldn’t finish them all in one sitting because they were so good! My boyfriend ordered a burger so sensually; I took his silence as a sign that he was more than enjoying his meal. The service was incredible! I feel terrible that I don’t remember my waitress’ name, but she gave us great recommendations and made sure we were satisfied throughout our visit. I seriously cannot wait to come back and try more items off the menu!

I stopped into Schatzis Pub last week when I had a craving for soft pretzels. Luckily, they serve their own version, in stick form, three per order with house-made beer cheese. Totally hit the spot. And, their old school mug system is a great concept. Sadly they already have a lengthy wait list, but I heard they might be opening a location in New Paltz, so get in line!

Schatzi’s is a great place to go for a bite or a drink, within walking distance to the train station! The ambiance is cozy, but well lit and spacious in the back. There are a few TVs above the bar, which makes it great to watch some Rangers hockey, football, soccer, etc. The bartenders are awesome and know their beer well(John’s the man!). Most taps are in and out weekly, keeping their beer list updated with great craft beer that’ll always surprise you. Jeremy, the owner is amiable and very nice, and always says hello to guests. Try any menu item and you won’t be disappointed! My favorite is the burger, and in a close second is the lobster roll. For starters, I’ve ordered the pretzel bites and frickles many times. Their menu has many specials that change based on the day of the week. Schatzi’s is a hidden gem in Poughkeepsie and I’m happy they’re opening a second location in New Paltz. If you’re lucky, two things can happen. 1: If your order kicks a keg, you get a t-shirt. 2: If you’re able to acquire an elusive ceramic mug, they keep it for you at the bar and your given more fluid ounces than a standard pour! In warmer months, they have a beautiful patio open for seating. So fun! I’ve chosen to spend two birthdays here, and I’m happy I did. It’s a chill vibe. Great beer, Great food, Great place to spend my paycheck.

Schatzi’s has, for me, a good beer selection, my favorite German food and pretzel buns in the area, a cozy atmosphere, and a menu I’d like to continue to explore. I do wish they had more local brews(though they may at other times as the selection changes), and their prices are above average. That goes for the food too. $ 8 for a wurst is, well, let’s just say I prefer them on a Monday when they’re $ 6. Vegetarians may find it challenging to eat here, as I found relatively few things on the menu for them, such as the vegetarian reuben, though you can probably always ask them to hold the meat toppings on some of the other choices. Service was great. I’m looking forward to sampling more off their menus and dining outdoors in nicer weather.

I met up with a girlfiend at Scahtzi’s where we had a few appetizers and some beer. Our server was knowledgeable and was able to recommend a good beer for me to try. We ordered Pierogies, German Pizza, and the Sliders. The pierogies are the best I have ever had. They even have a special night where they offer a variety of pierogies. The German Pizza was amazing and the Sliders were really good as well. I would return to try their different varieties of sausage and othe unique menu items.

I liked this place, would be great in the summer with the back patio. I’m a huge burger afficianado, so when I saw on the menu that Buzzfeed ranked it among 21 life changing burgers to try, I was sold. The $ 16 burger came on a pretzel bun with pork belly, potato pancake, cheddar, and sauce. It LOOKED amazing. But when you pile all of that onto one burger, it’s pretty much impossible to get your mouth around, so I took off the potato thing and the pork belly. And then it was just a pretty good burger, but my life was not changed in the slightest. In fact, I wish I had ordered the reuben. That looked good. But anyways, no complaints on anything really, and our server was very friendly and helpful. If you are a large, hungry man with the ability to unhinge your jaw, maybe get the burger. Nice beer selection.

I think I was too excited for this place, and therefor was disappointed. Mainly because of the costumer service. It is a pub after all and I guess if you’re a regular you know to have a seat wherever when you come in. And that all orders after a certain time must be made at the bar because you won’t have someone asking you what you’re having. Oh, and make sure you ask for a menu because you’ll likely not get one either unless you ask. I can’t remember which beer my boyfriend ordered for us but the taste was too strong for my liking and made me gag each time I tried it. I literally left an almost full glad of beer on the table when we left. But I am not going to give or take away stars for the beer I’ve had because I am not a huge fan of beer anyway so I would be wrong to judge them on something I don’t have a tasting for. What I am going to give a couple stars for, is for the Rueben sliders. I was pretty amazed at how much flavor was in those sandwiches. The cheese, the chunks of corn beef and the sour kraut all came together on a delicious pumpernickel bread!

Let me start by saying this place is amazing, the outdoor seating with water fountain creates a great environment to enjoy the weather and some great beer in there beer garden! There schatzis burger was absolutely amazing, a little on the pricey side but deffinetly worth it. If you’re looking for a place that’s opened until late and offers great service, food and beer here’s the place to be! I will be coming back!

Since moving to Poughkeepsie from New Paltz, I’ve been searching for«my» bar and I think I’ve found that in Schatzi’s. It’s an awesome place to go if you like beer, as they have a rotating menu, but it definitely caters to all types of drinking clientele. I’d say it’s a good spot for people in their mid to late twenties to go out on a Friday, without having to be surrounded by underage Marist kids. They have a large outdoor seating area that’s wonderful in the summer. Covered in white Christmas lights and small tables, it creates a nice atmosphere where my friends and I can sit around for a few hours after work or on weekends. While I don’t often go there to eat, but I’m usually very satisfied when I do. If I could put their cheddar ale sauce on every single thing I eat, I absolutely would. The only time I’ve ever been unsatisfied with their food was when I ordered two of their burgers(which they’re known for). From all the hype(and a price hovering around $ 15 a piece), I was really expecting something exceptional, but it was apparent that the burgers themselves hadn’t been seasoned so they were, unfortunately, bland. But, I like the place so much that I’ll keep going and could definitely give the burger another shot.

Schatzis is a place that I could rate at 5 stars just for one menu item, i.e. The Schatzis Burger. Awesomely enough, there are many more reasons for this place to be rated so highly in my book. Those reasons are the friendly service, ever rotating and appealing beer menu, and the peaceful seating on the patio behind the restaurant. There aren’t too many things that make me more happy than a calm and smiling server, a perfectly cooked and unique burger paired with a beer sampler including a thoughtful variety of beers ranging from light to dark, all located in a place that can act as a quiet retreat from the normal flow of Downtown Poughkeepsie. Thank you for all of the above, Schatzis. Now…back to that burger… How has no one else thought of this combination, and if they have, how have I been so unfortunate to not come across it earlier on in my life? High quality ground beef resting on a crispy potato pancake, and topped with pork belly and purple cabbage mayo(don’t knock it till you try it!), resting between sweet, pillowy pretzel buns. It’s all one could ask for in a burger; savory, salty, sweet, and oh so juicy. Crazy good. If you’re not reading this and shortly after pointing yourself in the direction, and heading to, Schatzis, frankly, I must wonder about your personal care, or at least your reading comprehension. You don’t want to live another day without experiencing this burger, people! Plain and simple. While you’re there, you might also want to try the tots and/or pierogies. Both show very thoughtful utility of the potato, and are a great appetizer option. They also are perfect for snacking if you’re trying to save room for more beer, and opting to not indulge in an entrée. If you’re pinching pennies, visit on a Wednesday and get your pierogies for only a $ 1.50 a piece. If that still seems steep for a potato filled dumpling, look at it like this, it’s still cheaper than a cupcake, and they go better with a cold one. ;-)

We ate here for an earlier dinner after walking the Walkway yesterday and man do I wish we lived closer! The hostess stand is a bit blocked by the bar, so for a moment when we entered, I thought there was only bar seating, but walk 2 feet more towards the back and there’s indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for the AC and sat inside, but from what I could see of the patio, it looked pretty well shaded with large umbrellas. Our waiter was very nice and helped us out on our ordering since I thought we ordered way too much, but he let us know portion size, etc and he was right on the money. We started with the pretzels, pirogi’s and tater tots and then had the spicy cheddar sausage and bratwurst, with a side of onion rings. The sausages each came on a roll with a side of German potato salad and pickles — which tasted homemade(the onion rings were $ 3 extra). I also got the shandy to drink, which was delicious. Everything smelled and sounded delicious and next time I would love to come back with a group so we can try everything!

If you love craft beer and hearty pub food, or have just finished a big workout and are famished, Schatzi’s is an awesome option that stands out in the PK area. Their beer list is extensive and informative, containing everything from American craft brews to traditional German Weiss biers and session beers. The food is awesome(though filling and heavy). I love going and sharing a couple appetizers(the pretzels are little pillows of heaven and the Reuben sliders are perfect) and having some good beer. Their ‘Schatzi burger’ is also great, though I can rarely have an appetizer, beer, and burger and walk out of there feeling like I haven’t punished my stomach. They’ve recently expanded the food offerings and included specials(pierogi Wednesdays, for example), which make the menu even more accessible. My only complaint would be that the space is rather limited, making it hard to accommodate more than the seated patrons. For that reason, it’s difficult to come with a moderate or large group and be confident you’ll have somewhere to be comfortable.
