92.7/96.9 WRRV

please. please stop playing those same three Nirvana songs. and that one song by cake. or the constant stone temple pilots. I could go on, but I won’t. My main gripes deal with the replaying of songs that were around in the mid-​nineties, early 2000’s…etc. They’re stuck in a rut. Despite the fact that they play newer music, they tend to fall back on the old standards that I’m sick of hearing. I want to hear /​actual/​radio shows that introduce music and bands I’ve never heard before, I want the local lockdown to NOT be on Sunday at 11:30 pm when nobody is listening.
I give them one star for being a radio station that plays more music than they talk, and another for having an amusing morning show host.

I have to compare 96.9÷92.7 — the alternative staple from my high school years of the late 90s (how I first heard some great bands and songs for the first time) — to Alt Nation, Sirius XM’s primary alternative station. Well… that’s where the comparison stops… the two stations don’t compare. WRRV doesn’t really play what’s going on and what’s hot in the alternative world today. They just play what’s become super main stream today. I have to disagree with Mike M — I think he’s talking about WPDH and unfortunately, he’s using his review to talk about bands he doesn’t like (that I happen to love — STP is amazing!!!), not about the performance of the station itself. It’s a good solid station but it’s really not about bands breaking into the scene anymore like it used to be. It’s just too similar to a mainstream pop station that it’s worth your time to get satellite or internet radio for your listening pleasure and pass over here.

I loved this station and listened from high school through college. I actually met friends I still keep in touch with/​hang out with to this day because of their chatroom. This station helped me keep my sanity in high school. Lately, they’re playing a lot of music I’m just not as crazy about. It seems like music is going through a lull right now as far as what I like goes. For now, I’m listening to Alt-​Nation on my boyfriend’s satellite radio, Pandora, and my iPod. I don’t really blame WRRV though. People say they play a lot of older music now, but honestly, I’d be happier if I got to hear more of what I listened to in high school on this station. Despite the issues, both 92.7 AND 96.9 are and will stay on my presets (I occasionally drive from one area to the other), and I always hit that button first before any other.

This my favorite station of all time.

Although they claim to be the «new» rock alternative, this station seems to be stuck in the mid-​90s. They LOVE to play a lot of those ‘90s one hit wonders (Lit? Harvey Danger? Silverchair? That craptastic «You Got the Music in You» band?) that weren’t really hits to begin with. Then there’s the constant Nirvana/​Stone Temple Pilots love, which I don’t get. They’re 2 of the most overrated bands ever… yes, I said that. Deal with it. I listened to RRV all the time through the mid 90s and into the 2000s, but just got tired of hearing the same crap. They do play newer music, however, it’s from new bands that just try to sound like ‘90s bands. Ugh, whatever, I’m old. I’ll just stick to my cd collection and Pandora.

I must 100% second my main man Mike’s review. I used to really enjoy this station but to be honest there’s one reason I can’t stand that station; their AM DJ and GM (You know who). Damn right, I said it. I cannot stand that guy at all. Has he ever done anything to me personally?
Nope. But you have to have standards and integrity.

This guy went on a tangent of making fun of it and the people who still mourn to this day. Saying how overrated he was. Telling people to get over it and how his music wasn’t good and blah, blah, blah…
Saying how classic rock sucks and so on… Really, DICK?
I’m a black dude from the Bronx and even I KNOW how important John Lennon was to music overall.
If it wasn’t for classic rock, this guy would be at Pizza Hut making deep dish pies. «More pepperoni bitch!!!»
Translation: Call me 30 years from now on how big and memorable «Death Cab for Cutie», «Good Charlotte» and «30 Seconds to Mars» will be… I’m serious.
I mean damn man, Limp Bizkit isn’t around anymore and I swear Fred Durst was writing checks to RRV to play their songs…
And furthermore, you crap on John Lennon & George Harrison’s deaths, but worship Kurt Cobain endlessly? Good one bro. I love it when my heroes commit suicide cuz they can’t handle the pressure of fame!
