Very nice overnight stay in downtown Portsmouth. I loved knowing that I was sleeping in a house that was over 200 years old! The inn keeper was pleasant and asked to be sure that we had everything we needed. Clean comfortable beds made for a good night sleep. The homemade muffins and French toast were delicious! Would definitely recommend.

My wife and I visited Portsmouth, NH, with another couple to explore the Strawbery Banke region. We chose The Inn at Strawbery Banke for our two nights of accommodations, and we were very happy with that choice. Our location was within easy walking distance of the waterfront, restaurants, and the Strawbery Banke Museum and community development. The museum complex was well worth the visit. The Guest section of the Inn was at least 200 years old — with enough amenities to satisfy us. Our host at the Inn was very pleasant(totally contradicting another review), very helpful in locating sites, and she made us several great breakfasts!

My wife and I stayed here for the weekend. It was very nice and clean. The owner was very nice, she made sure we had everything we needed and if we needed any advice as to were to go she was there(we did not, but it was great to know she wanted to be helpful and for our stay to be great). It was quiet and relaxing, we would be here again.

My advice: Come for the bed, skip the breakfast. The Inn at Strawberry Bank is a comfortable and quaint old 18th century house with spacious rooms. It wouldn’t take much more effort to make this place truly great. For starters, update the air conditioners(ours was from 1992 and its coolant had checked out years ago), get softer pillows and better linens. Maybe try some shades on the bathroom so people can’t see your business from below through the sheer curtains? And what’s up with the toiletries? Little details like that go a long way. The innkeeper seemed a bit gruff and aloof, proclaiming that«breakfast is between 8 and 9 am, check out at 11 am sharp and no smoking. If you want coffee earlier let me know.» OK – all reasonable save for breakfast, but honey, rethink your delivery. This isn’t juvy. I was half expecting her to follow up with«and no boys in the rooms, curfew is at 12.» About that breakfast… between 8 am and 9 am? Hello, I’m on vacation. And I don’t hop out of bed for oatmeal and stewed prunes. Do they advertise in AARP? In all fairness, there were eggs,(wicked thin) bacon and some kind of coffee cake, but my party was a bit underwhelmed. I’d be happier if they skipped the pretense and left out a basket of bagles or croissants to eat at our leisure to tide us over for breakfast at the Friendly Toast. Still, as B&Bs go, I don’t think I’m ever too dazzled. So at the very least, I’m glad they have nice squishy beds and a quaint atmosphere. You could certainly do worse!

Expensive and I was prepared to pay plenty for a treat, but this Inn was disappointing. Clean enough, but the rooms are shabby. The sofa in room four looked like it had been picked up off the sidewalk. Blessedly free of floral wallpaper, but a splash of color would do a lot to brighten up the place. A same, really, in a beautiful historic building, this place could be really nice. The breakfast was incredibly unimaginative — cheap bacon and plain eggs. The homemade oatmeal toast was delicious, but did not make up for an overall disappointing evening.

Delightful place, staffed by the owner. Excellent breakfast, touring tips, and, best of all, right next to the historic restoration Strawbery Banke, the reason we were in Portsmouth.
