Sport & Spine Physical Therapy

Shortly after surgery for a broken trochanter, I contacted Sport & Spine because a colleague and athlete gave them such a high recommendation. I was determined to return fully to all my athletic activities– practicing Ashtanga Yoga, doing weight training and walking 4 to 5 miles a day. During the 3 weeks I had before relocating south in Florida, Sport & Spine moved me from using a walker to walking with one crutch and transitioning to walking without any equipment. The exceptional guidance, training, caring and support moved me well beyond my expectations. I will miss Chris, Sarah & Karen while I search for a comparable facility in my new location. Meanwhile, the guidance they gave me has laid a strong foundation for my future improvement. How fortunate Portsmouth is to have this first rate facility.

I have been seeing Chris and Ben for 3 weeks and getting back to running on the Alter-​G treadmill, which is an amazing invention. Of my many experiences with several local physical therapists, this has been the most beneficial, most rational, and quickest to achieve results. My chronically torn hamstring and compensatory strained calf are remakably better already, and I am now able to run outdoors pain-​free for the first time in many months. I would especially recommend Sport and Spine if you are any type of ahtlete.

I’ve got to ding them, but just a little. The problem was billing. They have some separate company in California that does the billing and they gave me the runaround. I thought the billing people came across as being kind of shady because:
1. They told me the dates that they didn’t have a copay for.
2. When I told them I had receipts, they changed the dates that I supposedly hadn’t paid.
3. Then they said that they checked with the doctor’s office and suddently I owed for one visit instead of three, and it was one of the oldest where the receipt would be hardest to find.
4. So I went to the PT office, and the billing person there checked into it and said that I had paid for all the visits.
I still think Sport & Spine does a really good job with the physical therapy, but their billing people were horrible. So Sport & Spine gets five stars for the work and one star for their billing practices. Since it’s the quality of the care that matters most, I’m calling this a four star place. If you go to Sport and Spine, save all those little scraps of paper that they give you. Someday when you think everything is done, some billing company in California may surprise you and send you bills for money that you don’t owe.
