Little Shop of Pets

I don’t recommend this pet store. I was curious and went in because I had never heard of this pet store before. There was a strong dog smell when entering the store. Some of the dogs there were cute, and they seemed nice and excited to see people. But they look like they’re treated like hamsters. They are in small wooden cubicles with some paper bedding, and they also have a bigger version of the water bottles that hamsters would use. There was also one puppy in a dog bed, and when I came over to him it looked like he tried really hard to get up so I could pet him, but it seemed like he couldn’t get up at all. It was sad to see. They also had a random chinchilla in the corner, and a few rows of pet supplies. As a whole, this didn’t look like a safe and healthy pet store.

We bought a black and white Zuchon here about 3 months ago. He is loving, playful and well socialized. Has no aggression towards other dogs or people. He is awesome. The owner gave us all his history and kept him a couple of extra days to have him vet checked again because we heard him cough. Cough turned out to be nothing and he has adapted to his new sister and family beautifully. Pet shop puppies need love too and she supplies breeder info and geanology. Owner cares about her puppies and I had no hesitation bringing him home.

I got my puppy here. I spent $ 900 to adopt her and then another $ 2000 withing the next six weeks. She had terrible kennel cough and double phenomena. My vet told me she would have died if not adopted and brought straight to a vet. Yes you have time to bring them to a vet and get them checked out, but anyone with a heart knows that is just letting them die.
I love my now 7month old puppy. Wouldn’t trade her for the world. But this place needs to be shut down. All of the puppies looked like they were all very sick. The man at the front desk couldn’t give me the time of day. Oh and did I mention her birth certificate is fake. The breeder they gave me does not exist, and when I called them on it they blamed it on the man who drops the dogs off. Not a doubt in my mind that she came from a puppy mill.
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS! Those puppies deserve more!

We bought a Border Collie puppy here three weeks ago. Apparently the lady is a new owner. She was more than happy to let us walk and play with the puppies that we were interested in. She gave us vaccination paperwork, AKC certification, microchip application and a genealogy list. She was very knowledgeable about our breed. She gave us 14 days to go to the veterinarian and if there are any problems we could return her. She was perfectly healthy. Even though the world tells you not to go to a puppy store, I would not trade Abby for anything!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. They are incredibly rude, the store is dirty, their pets are so unhappy and poorly treated, and whenever a customer tries to give them some love an attention they get scolded. Do not shop here, especially if you are looking to get a pet. Go to a private breeder or adopt from the SPCA.

Rude workers, little selection, and overpriced. Considering the tone the wife and I got from the lady the moment we walked in the door, wouldn’t surprise me if the high prices are just to keep the doors open.
About 12 wooden boxed all in a row on the ground, 3 puppies. Was «told» not to bother the puppies, she didn’t want them active again. Not asked nicely, not asked if we needed anything or looking for something. She say behind the counter while we walked around, and not a word was said as we left.
Puppy mill or not, service and selection the worst I’ve ever had since moving to nh 2 years ago!!! Avoid, at all costs and spend a little more on gas to get to several other places that cater to better prices, pets, and selection.

I just stopped in to get some dog food — normally I go to another pet store. I was so saddened by what I saw. These puppys are dirty, they’re in wooden boxed cages that are filthy — no toys, no play, nothing. I saw one labradoodle that was in a metal cage within the wooden cage??? just laying there, crying. Just broke my heart. I refuse to do business there. I just rescued a West Highland Terrier puppy mill survivor. To look at these puppies, and know that their mother is still in her own living hell constantly breeding for these disgusting people’s profit just saddens me. PLEASE PLEASE do not buy from this store. It will help stop these horrible puppy mills! My dog spent the first 7 years of her life in a cage. Had no idea how to walk on grass, no idea how to go up stairs, didn’t know what it meant to play with a toy, or chew a bone… All she has ever known before her rescue was breeding and having her puppies taken away far too early.
Please. Think twice about what these people are all about. They’re all about the money — with no heart. Go to a pet store that does not support puppy mills!

Yes the puppy sale are all little dogs from puppy mills. The owner is upfront with you about that but will insist that the puppies have gotten all their shots. I was looking into a certain rare dog breed that she happened to be carrying. When i went in to look at him she told me i wasn’t aloud to hold or play with that puppy. Also her price was $ 400 more than a private breeder. I decided to give the place one more try and went in with my boyfriend to look at fish and if that same puppy was still there. The man that was working told me he would not let me hold the puppy unless i was buying him!!! I said are you joking me, you want me to commit to buying a pet before i even look at it up close or bond with it?! Clearly all you care about is money. When i asked what breed this puppy was he replied with «just a regular Chihuahua, nothing special.» Unreal. What they are doing is very wrong and I feel awful for the poor puppies that they are treating like a pay check.
p.s There were many dead fish in the tanks and after waiting for about 30 minutes to be helped to get some fish out of the tank we chose not to wait any longer.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. If you’re looking for a puppy go to a shelter or a reputable breeder if you’re looking for a purebred. The woman who owns this store will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to buy one of her over priced puppies from a known puppy mill.
Her other scam is the «puppy sale» sign that is ALWAYS hanging outside her shop, big enough for you to see from the road. All part of her scam because when you go in the shop the prices are listed on a whiteboard behind the cash register, a lot of them with a markdown from some ridiculous price to make you think you’re getting a deal when in fact, you’re not.
Unfortunately I did not do my homework before I purchased one of her puppies. I love my dog, but she lied when I bought him by telling me he had all of his shots and was fixed. Not so. So I paid a $ 380 vet bill on top of what I paid for him to get him current with his shots and get him fixed.
Ask her where she gets her puppies and the contact info so you can research them before you buy one of her puppies. You will see first hand how uncomfortable she gets and then the run around begins. I know this first hand because I recently went back to her shop to see for myself. Shady.

DO NOT BUY YOUR PETS OR DO YOUR BUSINESS HERE! The owners of this place get their dogs from puppy mills, as previously stated. The owners are very shady and only looking to make a buck. They don’t have any information on where the dogs come from even though any good business should, the shop is not very clean and the woman who runs it does not know much about dogs. She was completely off-​put when I asked her where one paticular dog came from and said she does not know. VERY WEIRD. Went in there for the first time, the dogs were in dirty wooden crates, that look like they hadn’t been cleaned in at least a few days and smelled like urine. I was looking to simply buy a ball for my dog and waited for over 20 minutes while she casually chatted with some people. Horrible customer service and even worse care for the dogs. I would highly recommend against this place.

If I could give this place a no star I would. My boyfriend and I got my puppy here and the lady said she knew the breeders they were extremely nice people, after we bought the dog we googled those «nice» people and they are convicted felons. We then later find out our puppy has a significant heart murmur, caused by some form of heart disease. We love our dog he is amazing! It’s just terrible that he won’t live a long healthy life because of terrible people in the world who own puppy mills and the people who buy from them.
Also I’ve talked to a couple people who have purchased dogs here and they too had some type of health problem.

We stopped in on our way back from a day trip to Maine on the 4^th of July to get treats for our dogs. We were surprised they were open so late into the afternoon on a holiday but grateful. The shop was dimly lit and the puppies looked tired though well groomed. The puppies were (as others have said) housed in cedar crates in the middle of the floor and one puppy in particular was additionally confined in a metal crate within his/​her cedar box. We made our way to the rear of the store where several people were sitting on the floor quietly with a puppy. We finally found a small section of treats, picked a few items and waited. And waited. And waited. A guy that had been sitting on the floor walked up toward the front and then the back again so i don’t know if the people on the floor were owners/​friends of the shop or customers… who knows. No one ever came to ring us up so we left. Another thing that was off putting to was the FREE GERBILS sign. Free gerbils… weird. When you give away things for free, people associate it with being worthless.

This seems to be a pretty nice pet shop. They carry a variety of puppies which are kept together by size in cedar lined play areas (large wooden boxes without lids) on the floor — so the dogs have a chance to play and interact — they aren’t just kept in metal cages like those sad puppy stores in the mall.
Having talked to one or two people who have bought a dog through them, they haven’t had any major problems (though that is second hand information, so take it with a grain of salt).
They also carry fish and a number of animal supplies, mostly geared towards dogs. I do stop in here periodically to play with the puppies and to tempt myself as some day I do want to get a dog.
