Upon my arrival at Hap’s roast beef I was enchanted by this restaurants appeal. The aesthetic of this particular eatery was quite brilliant. The servers were friendly and helpful with recommendations of the chicken kabob and the 3 way roast beef. I enjoyed an appetizer of mozzarella sticks and Cajun French fries. It’s a charming hole in the wall that most would pass over but I recommend stopping into this diner while in Portsmouth.

Went yesterday for a cheeseburger sub and small Greek salad. The sub was good and cooked the way I wanted it. Loved the Greek salad with feta and onions. Came with Syrian bread and Greek dressing. Next time I’ll get a large. They have picnic tables outside which was nice.

For roast beef 3-way sandwich, 5 stars!!! SO good. Get one! 3-way(cheese, mayo, sauce) sounds odd but is delish!!! Fried cheese yummy. Pizza good, too. I’d bet everything is really good but I always get the roast beef because it’s that good. :)

I find most sub shops in NH sub par compared to MA where I’m originally from but Haps has brought me back to my MA days. As others have mentioned the chicken kabob salad is excellent. The roast beef is also very good. It’s not Kelly’s it’s better!

Great fast food restaurant with quick service and surprisingly fantastic seafood! If your at Water Country or in the general Portsmouth area there a great option for quality food a a very fair price!

I had the gyro and onion rings recently, the gyro was good but the rings was a little too greasy for me. Will definitely try again specially the roast beef with onion roll.

3 Words: Chicken kebob salad. It’s fantastic! The house greek dressing is perfect. It comes topped with delicious fresh feta too(I have them hold my onions — no stinky office breath!) I literally grab one once a week. I’ve also had their roast beef sandwiches(3 way is the best!) on a toasty onion roll — divine! Chicken fingers are good too, and spicy fries are yummy(though not all that spicy). Service is always prompt and excellent there as well. They have their own parking lot. A few small tables inside, I think most of the crowd gets theirs to-go or delivered. Totally recommend!

Terrible onion rings had no flavor at all, terrible buffalo fingers, and terrible steak bomb that was more like a soggy sloppy joe. All were tiny portions and high priced. I can see why no one was there. I spent $ 21 and was pissed. Less than 1 out of 5 stars.

Good prices on the sandwiches but the fries, make it a basket, rings ect are kind of a gimmick, greasy and from a bag. I hate the fact the roast beef is usually cold. Ambiance is poor booths, tile floor basic white walls with a radio on. Sauce is from the bottle and they even sell it(Smithfield). Keep on driving down the road to Hampton the place near the lights there is much better.

The roast beef sub was a little dry and the horseradish too mild. The buffalo fingers had good flavor but very little chicken: I do not recommend. Three stars for the food and four for the value. I got a lot of roast beef for $ 6.75. But those fingers were dissappointing. There’s a lot of competition in the area: five guys, honey ham, and mckinnons has really good calzones and beef burritos. Haps is worth a second try though. Maybe I got them on a bad day. Edit: I reheated the roast beef sub and it was so much better the second time around. Weird.

I love this place. The first time I went I had the roast beef three way. Very very good. This time though I thought I would try the chicken kabob in a sub. The very best chicken kabob I’ve ever had. Soooooooo good. I highly recommend this place.

It’s roast beef, what else can I say? It’s a great place, easy to get to and always good service. When I’m hankering for a good roast beef and I’m in Portsmouth, I go here.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I gave the place only 4 stars. This place has the BEST chicken kabob salad and roast beef sandwich, ever.

In regards to the roast beef(with the sauce of course folks) about as close to what one can get that far north of a certain region of eastern Massachusetts.

So first of all the location of Hap’s does not serve it any justice… It is in a tiny strip mall on route 1. Not exactly the first place I would turn into on a whim if I was just passing trough. I’m convinced that either you need to be a regular or a Unilocal user to seek out this place. Upon entering the restaurant I noticed that it has definitely been around for a while. The place is takeout, but there are seats available to eat in. I ordered a 3-way sandwich which had roast beef, cheese, mayo and BBQ sauce. One nice thing was they offer 4 various sizes of this sandwich depending upon your appetite. I ordered a ‘super’. Got my food after waiting less than 60 seconds. Impressed by how quickly they prepared my food, it took a quick glance out at the street front to make sure that the sign outside didn’t say McDonnald’s. Ate the sandwich and it was good. Definitely not a low calorie sandwich, but had some great flavor. They put a fair amount of meat inside and a generous portion of sauce. Moral of the story: Yeah I will be back next time I am in the area and in the mood for a good roast beef sandwich!

Wow… just had a large and a junior 3-way…they literally melted in my mouth, I think I inhaled them both in less than 5 minutes. The beef was perfect as usual. I had Bill & Bobs last week, I think Haps is better. In fact, I think it’s my favorite! I was craving one so bad. Now I know what a crackhead feels like lol!!!

This place is fairly consistent. I have been here many times and I have only received one dry, flavorless roast beef sandwich. Thats not bad, but I expect a 5-star restaurant to be 100% consistent. Aside from that one misstep, their roast beef is flavorful and tender. Their BBQ sauce is just tangy and spicy enough to supplement the beef and not overtake it. Not quite on par with Kelly’s, but close. And for the NH seacoast, that is pretty incredible.

This sandwich shop serves up roast beef sandwiches plus subs, wraps, salads, fried seafood, pizza, calzones, appetizers, cooler beverages, and more, located next to Sprint and The Meat House. The place is order at the counter with a few tables. The roast beef sandwiches taste pretty good and are offered in junior, regular, and super sizes with the very rare roast beef is thinly sliced to order. A Junior Roast Beef Sandwich is priced at $ 3.95 plus tax(ketchup & horseradish sauce included), but if you want add-ons such as shredded lettuce, they’ll charge 15 cents extra(giving nickel n’ dime real meaning) making the roast beef sandwich priced even higher for what you get. The service is efficient and quick.
