Sandwiches were good(not outstanding), however having worked in the food industry for 20+ years, I find it unacceptable for an employee to stand at the counter on their cell phone, communicating with customers with a mouth full of food.

Why are there not more reviews for Googie’s? This is probably my favorite place to get a sandwich in downtown Portsmouth. I’ve been here tons of times. The bread and ingredients always seem fresh, and the staff works hard to make even a long line move quickly. You’ll be able to get your sandwich in no time. There’s a pretty good variety of sandwiches available, including a daily special. I almost always get the Bullseye: turkey, cheese, tomato, red onions, mayo and barbecue sauce on a nice fresh sub roll. I think the prices average around seven bucks. Beware early closing time– if you’re hungry for a sammich in the mid– to late afternoon, you’ll be out of luck. But you might be able to get one of the sandwiches from the cooler in the convenience store next door(not sure if they still do that). No pretension, no long lines, just good sandwiches. Remember to tip.

Boars head. Fair prices. Tip these ladies well — they’re working under stifling conditions

Best sandwiches in town(sorry Moe’s — you’re a classic, but sometimes I need more variety). From the Italian to the Gobbler, the Bullseye to the Rooster Wrap, there’s a million great sandwiches to try here. It’s a perfect little café with a convenience store connected next door in case you need to grab some beer or candy. Give it a try for lunch next time you’re in town.

I would love to review this place, but it’s never open! I’m so frustrated that after multiple attempts(day, night, etc) I am giving up and they will not be getting my business. Now to find a sandwhich place in Portsmouth that actually serves food.

I love the selection. Their sandwiches are filled with boars head meat and come on an awesome roll. This is a great place for a casual sandwich! :)

A decent place to grab a sandwich for lunch. Service depends entirely on how busy it is and who is behind the counter. Sandwiches are generally pretty good, though the sub rolls are a bit lacking somehow. On the upside you have the rest of the store to pick out your drink and chips. They are pretty quick to get your order together. I’ll be back when I need a quick and pretty cheap lunch, not the kind of place I’d pickup at for taking someone to the park though.

With a name like Googies, it has to be good!(apologies to Smuckers) After a visit to Strawbery Banke Museum on a rainy morning, this was a convenient spot to grab a late lunch. With 3 adults and 4 very hungry kids in tow, I was a little worried when we walked in; The place was dead, and I only saw one employee. «Uh oh», I though, «This will take forever.» But then about 4 employees came out of the woodwork, taking orders, making sandwiches, and pouring soups. It was a whirlwind of activity, and we got all our food in just a few minutes. Sandwiches were made to order and high quality. My clam chowder was delicious. The staff even came by to check on us. I’d definitely go here again.

We had an awesome sandwich at Googie’s for lunch. This is a sandwich shop with the usual drinks, chips, etc. It’s also connected to the convenience store next door, so you can get just about anything you want here. At lunchtime there’s a line, but it moves fast. And they use Boar’s Head meats. If you’re looking for the best sandwich meat, nothing beats Boar’s Head. The obvious competitor is Moe’s, and here’s how their italian sandwiches compare. Googie’s is a bit more expensive, but there’s more meat on the sandwich. I split a large sandwich with my wife 2 hours ago and I’m still full. Moe’s manages to get more flavor out of less meat, but a Googie’s sandwich will probably keep you full for a little longer. I’d go to whichever one is more convenient, but I think I’d go to Googie’s if I was the same distance from both.

Great place to stop for lunch in Downtown Portsmouth. Googie’s offers made to order sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, chips, baked goods, cooler drinks, and Gifford’s Ice Cream. They use Boar’s Head meats in their sandwiches. See the menu at: The place has wood floors, sandwich order counter, beverage coolers, and a seating area near the front window. The back portion is connected to the Portsmouth Provisions convenience store. After walking through downtown, we stopped at Googie’s for lunch and had the basic lunch deals(upgraded to specialty sandwich/wrap) including the sandwich/wrap with a bag of Cape Cod chips and Diet Pepsi from the cooler. The Rooster wrap was tightly wrapped and stuffed with chicken salad, crisp bacon, sprouts, lettuce & sliced tomatoes. The Smoke Stack sandwich had smoked ham, smoked turkey, Swiss cheese, crisp bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, & mayo in a small sub roll. Good eats and a quick lunch!
