Nice lake only 35 – 45 mins north of Reno. And it still has water… All the campgrounds are closed when we went for a hike with Luna but she sure enjoyed swimming… and chasing the ducks. From the looks of it this lake looks like a local fav to fish in. We went during the week and still saw more then 20 boats fishing. Great getaway that is close by to hike and swim in the warmer months.

Lake Davis is one of Northern California’s premier lakes for trout fishing.. .(catch and release, of course). Lake Davis is home to many absolutely beautiful Rainbow Trout, many of trophy caliber. Check out the photos I’ve posted of a few catches from the summer of 2012. Lake Davis is located in Plumas County, California, approximately 2 hours Northeast of Sacramento, and about 1 hour Northwest of Reno, NV. The lake is accessible off of Highway 70, by driving about 7 miles North of the mountain village of Portola, CA. The lake was initially created in 1966. It is accessible year around, but is at an elevation in the Sierra where it freezes over usually around December until melting off in the Spring. Jet skis and water skiing are prohibited, hence the fishing-friendly nature of this beautiful alpine lake.
